Utah State

I just wanted to stop by and see what your fans were thinking about the game. I really like Rahe and I am really jealous of how well he recruits. Most Aggie fans think we will struggle this year, unfortunately me included. We are more athletic but young and inexperienced. In both exhibitions we struggled shooting and rebounding, both will have to improve to be to beat Weber. Our point guard Perkins will be key, very explosive but not making the best decisions yet. Smith will be really good and has potential to be a star. Moore is really playing out of position but out of need playing the 4 instead of the 3, has most potential on the team but needs to play more aggressive and consistent. Collete also playing out of position more of a 4 than a 5. Has a good feel for the game will be a great player for Usu, needs to rebound better than he has so far. Mcglaston is a freakish athelete but very streaky and is making poor decisions. Overall not a bad starting lineup but on smallish side. One senior,Three freshman and sophmore coming off the bench. Youngest team usu has had as long as i can remember. I hope we play a good game without injuries. I hope nothing like our football team has had :o . I really like Bolamboy probably the hardest matchup usu will have. BTW Lillard is my favorite nba player.

Welcome usufan10! Nice to have ya visiting our board. Yeah, I don't know much about the Aggies. Stew's offense has always run through the middle. Look at all of the great bigs who have come through Logan during Stew's tenure. Biggest issue is that the Aggies, right now, don't have a dominant big man. Yes, Collette is around and will end up being a major piece of the Aggie puzzle in the future, but right now, he isn't there yet. Moore well, so far, seems like he is in a Sophomore slump. I'm sure he will be fine. No matter, should be an interesting game. Of course, I'm hoping for a Weber State victory, but afterwards, I'm all for seeing the Aggies do well.

Thanks for the welcome! I have this game at about 50/50 chance of winning. Hopefully the spectrum will be at least 3/4 full and help give us a push. I don't remember much from the game last year other than Bolomboy being a beast. Can you tell me more about Senglin and any other players to watch for?

I think ours ended up being in D, about row 18. Had a student pick 'em up for us to hopefully not be dinged $2/each service fee on-line-- maybe buys gas anyway. I don't head to Logan often for this game so I'm hoping for a big fat W!

I offer this to all Cats as a pre-game "get all psyched-up!" and beat down those Cache Cowards...

Keys for a Weber victory:

1. Control the paint--USU has made a living of owning the middle against the Cats. Last year is a prime example. Jared Shaw had the game of his life against Weber and that was our downfall. Our bigs have got to show up tonight and own the middle. That means getting every rebound.

2. Rebounding--Two huge differences were seen during the exhibition games. Weber might not have shot well, but the Cats are a very solid rebounding team and only get better when Hunter is in the game. While USU isn't the greatest rebounding team. In both exhibitions they were out rebounded. Also, the Aggies, for the first time in forever, do not have a dominant big man to hang onto. Yes there is potential for them. Our bigs just have to do what they do best and the Cats should win this category.

3. Perimeter--Weber has to play better from beyond the arc. Offensively the Cats aren't making the passes necessary to get the open shots. But when they do, they aren't hitting those shots. Golden is our most reliable shooter, but after him it is a crap shoot. On the defensive side, that is where it all starts. Limit touches outside the arc. Push the Aggies away from the line and make them pass to get inside. Solid shut down defense is what is needed. Make the Aggies take bad shots from outside and make poor passes.

4. Bench Play--Hunter, Hajek, Coston, Pelt, whoever else will take the court, we desperately need them to bring a spark from the bench and also to keep the Cats going. Rahe has a lot of options with the first six or seven, but after that there are a lot of question marks. Weber has got to bring their bench and contribute.

5. Limit Turnovers--Hold onto the ball and force more turnovers than you commit and the game should go the Cats way.

This kind of result would be a great way to start the season tonight. I wish I could find a video clip of Jimmy D for 3 and the win, especially of watching (again) the Spectrum go silent. LET'S GO WEBER!

"...USU lost twice to Weber on buzzer-beaters in Aggie "home" games - 81-79 in overtime in the Delta Center in 1995 and 87-86 the last time they played in Logan. That was Dec. 7, 1993, in Eustachy's second official game as USU coach. The Wildcats came from 20 points down to win 87-86 on a Jimmy DeGraffenried 40-footer. ..."
