Utah State

Olds? Is Braxton officially redshirted or did he just not play?

I don't think anything official has been said, but that was my assumption when we didn't see him.

Our 5's can't play any worse offensively than what they did on Friday in the second half. What do we have to lose by giving the freshman a chance. James is what James is. It is not magically going to get any better.

Randy needs to get Phil on speed dial when Joel starts playing soft. Beckner would have ripped Joel a new one for his lazy and soft defense on Friday. He was timid and playing like he was better than what he really is. Beckner had a talent of humbling Joel.

Looks like he is a guy who needs a dose of reality every season before he gets it. Look at last year. He played terribly until the end of December and then started to really improve. Don't get me wrong. Joel is one of my favorite players, but for 20mins on Friday, he definitely wasn't. I'm glad I wasn't at that game. I heard from a couple of friends how miserable it was leaving the game. I heard that most USU fans were pretty nice. They must have been in abject shock.

I have never been so embarrassed in my life. The USU fans I was by were very nice and most of them were talking about how bad they will do in the MWC, but they could not believe our collapse in the 2nd half.

The USU fans were really nice. It was the craziest game I have ever witnessed. You could hear a pin drop at the end of the first half. USU fans were saying that this is a really good Weber team and the worst team they had ever had. I had prepped my daughter by telling her that this was on of the loudest arenas in college basketball and sometimes their fans are inappropriate. At the end of the first half she said it wasn't very loud at all. Then the nightmare started and the Spectrum started rocking. The fans still kept it pretty cordial.

Did anyone else hear Stew say on the radio after that he didn't expect to win the game? He said that he told his team at the half that they needed to play harder on D and keep the game respectable.

Yeah I heard that as well from Stew. You certainly cannot discount the fans and their impact on the game. I was sitting pretty close to that section and it was probably difficult for our young players to focus. That too will come with experience but it is no coincidence that the visiting team has that side of the court in the 2nd half.

Is there a coaches luncheon this week? I have never been since Becky moved it but it would be interesting to see what Rahe has to say about this

Think the coaches luncheon was last Mon...for what it's worth, Aggies beat Illinois State on the road 60-55 after being behind at half by 7. Another second half rally. Illinois St is Weber's first opponent in the Paradise Jam?

Not going to panic after one game, but winning the BSC doesn't look to be a given. PSU beat USC and UNC looked good against Wyoming. Going to be an interesting season!

Embarrassing to leave the arena was an understatement. Rahe owes every Weber fan who made the trip from Hell an apology.

Rahe is accountable, but he had some assistants who have to be more involved in on court adjustments. Duft, the new coach Smiley and Lever. They have to bring something to the table. Yes, it was a total collapse, but what scared me was that we never adjusted. We are going to see a zone variation the remainder of the season. Someone needs to google how to beat a zone!

Also feel we rely heavily on physical ability, we also need basketball IQ on the court! Hill and Bolomboy are still learning basketball. I thought they got exposed for relying more on their superior physical skills and less on basketball knowledge. How many times do you have to get beat on the pick and roll before you figure out how to defend it?

I thought Stew showed he's the master and Rahe isn't ready yet to snatch the pebble.

I thought this was very true about basketball IQ. I truly can't imagine that the team does not work on playing against a zone. My thoughts while watching the game was that the players simply did not execute. A 1-3-1 zone is not the most common defense in D1, but mostly because it is fairly easy to break. The short corners and baseline 3 were open the entire 2nd half but for various reasons we could never take advantage.

In fairness to Rahe and his staff there are only so many hours of practice to this point in the season to work on every scenario that they will see. Combine that with the fact that the team has so much youth and very little combined D1 experience (JC transfers included).

The most disappointing thing to me was the interior defense ... way too soft. Are Bolomboy, Hill, and Hayek concerned about fouling because of our lack of depth, or is this a trend that we will see all season? Weak side rotations were a serious problem as well. Take away 11 uncontested dunks by Collette and we still win by 10. He did not even shoot one free throw!!!!

The Zone was actually a 1-1-3. Tark @ UNLV use to use it with intense double teaming,
trapping. It is also referred to as the Amoeba Zone defense.

@sluhm: Utah State redshirt freshman David Collette (19.5, 5.0) named MWC player of the week after wins over Weber State and Illinois State.

This is why I hate losing in state! 363 days to go about how they embarrassed Weber State! I'm going into the witness protection program! It's just been brutal!

I've never felt more shame than on Friday night. It was almost hard to walk after that loss. It took everything I had to get out of that stadium. I really wanted to call coach today and ask for my money back. It was that embarrassing.

Midmajor...at least the Cats play everyone. We aren't like Utah and cravenly cowar away from manning up and playing the other instate programs. I'd rather lose than not play. That doesn't make me feel any better though. I am still disgusted about how our team folded it in with 10mins to go.

Good friggin grief people! Grow up! It's one game! Quit with the damn doom and gloom and calling for Rahe's head.

The team is going to get better and better as the season progresses, and it seems like half of you all are ready to pack it in after one goddamn game.

Support the Wildcats and quit bitching because we lost to Utah State.

And let me just say to you I am extremely jealous of you. Your life is so damn amazing that one friggin loss to Utah State is equal to you shitting your pants on live TV.

I'm sorry guys but I am just sick of this fucking pity party that has been going on all weekend. Quit your bitching about the loss, quit your bitching about playing a small school, and just enjoy watching the goddamn game.

How do you really feel? I didn't quite get it. Could you be more expressive?

Well, I guess what Back is telling us is that he has shit himself on live TV before so he can get past this loss. Congratulations! I've got a bit more pride I guess.

Back2WSU - I have followed Weber State basketball for over 30 years and I have never felt the embarrassment that I felt on Friday night. You can't explain what happened in Logan. Our coaches gave up and our players thought they won it all after the first half.

WE CAN SAY WHATEVER WE WANT. It sucked, it stings and it will sting for a while. Our coach needs to make some adjustments against the zone. Many of us here are very invested in this program. We deserve better from our coaching staff. A good portion of Rahes salary comes from private donors that give to the University for the purpose of keeping coach Rahe. He should be accountable to the fans that literally support him.

It just wasn't a loss to Utah State. It was the biggest collapse I have ever witnessed. We packed it up when things got rough. I am thinking about wearing a paper bag over my head to tonight's game.
