I agree with the fact that berry is becoming some sort of a ball hog. It doesnt help when we run P offensive set everytime down the floor. We arent very creative with our offensive play calling. But the last play where berry turned it over and we had to foul, he should have passed it as jordan was wide open at the top of the key. For a last play of the game not very creative. Disappointing

I disagree, Berry is the best player, he has a green light. That play was set up for him to drive to the basket, he was hammered. The ref's swallowed their whistles after they had been calling those plays fouls all night. As for the play calling, when your big's can't hold onto the ball like they did against UVU it kills a lot of plays. The team will be fine, yes it sucks but regroup.

And yes as for our bigs, Joel passed well and found some open guys out of the post, but Tres, good lord that was the worst game I have ever seen him play and that missed layup at the end was plain embarrassing. :wall:

I'll agree with that. I haven't reviewed the numbers but it sure seems like our bigs have been utterly outplayed in every game.
BYU - wash, Tres played well
CSU - outplayed, Tres hurt
USU - outplayed
UVU - outplayed

Our "strength" hasn't been there yet.

BYU - wash, Tres played well > he was awesome, 24 pts against best team we have played
CSU - outplayed, Tres hurt > he got injured early first half
USU - outplayed > reinjured his ankle in or before game
UVU - outplayed > reinjured his ankle before what would have been the uta game and might not have even played i wonder

we need trez at 100%. i say sit him until conf play. none of these ooc games matter and i dont care now that we are 1-4. i would rather see our best players at 100% for when it really matters.

games before conf starts: 2 non's and ucla who may be ranked or close to it.

someone needs to update us at the coaches lunch on the team's status.

I agree about sitting Trez, Only if it would help his ankle heal. Otherwise, play him sparingly.

There won't be another Roundball meeting until January. I don't think we are going to hear any real updates on injuries until about that time. The coaches are not usually open with that kind of information. Partly because they don't want the opposition to know and partly because there is a lot of unpredictability regarding how a player will heal and when they might be ready to play. :coffee:

...This team seems to force alot...

Very true observation and it just doesn't seem like they need to or should feel pressured to do so :tothehand:, they have a ton of athelisicm and skill on this team.

... Mook was the guy at the 4 and he was very good. We are seeing how much we miss Mook right now, but Bolomboy will get better. He had a really great second half against UVU, and will only get better. I now think the St. Katherine game is great. Keep the guys playing. Give some of our guys a rest and lets some of the guys on the bench get some more mins. I don't think we see Hajek till maybe UCLA, but most likely Northern New Mexico.

Mook definately was "the guy." :notworthy: I watched the CIT Championship game again and Mook's play and how he made others on the floor better jumped right out of the screen. It essentially looked like having two facilitators on the floor with Bam (one high, one low.). Tres, Berry, and even JR benefitted so much with Mook on he floor. Even though it's a different position and style of play, when Berry plays in control and makes good decisions, there's a lot of similarities in the two. If Berry could become at the 3 what Mook was/did for the team at the 4, I think we'd be looking at the team we were expecting to see this season. It doesn't matter how many times I watch that game, it will always be an awful feeling watching 5-6 missed FTs in the last two minutes which made the difference. :puke:

I'm not so sure about the St. Katherine game, either. I don't suspect they'll put up much of a fight. If Weber is headed for a 25+ point route, I really don't see those types of games as much more benefit that practice/scrimmages.

Also, I realize getting Hajek back will help having another big (and experienced big) back in the rotation, but what are his strengths? I'm not trying to knock him or anything, I'm just wondering what others see in him that will add to the teams success. He really hasn't played a ton and the only thing that jumps out from memory is foul trouble with him.

Hajek brings toughness, not only on the floor in games and another big off our bench, but perhaps most importantly, he brings toughness in practice. He will make our starters that much better by pushing them in practice.

All will work out for our team. We just need some other guys to start stepping it up and not relying so much on Berry and Tres. Berry had a number of really nice passes but either the receiving player wasn't ready or missed the open shot. I personally think Berry is one of the most selfless players with his talent sets I've ever seen. He sometimes pushes the pass when he should be selfish and take the shot. He is a hell of a great player and could be averaging 25 if he wanted to. But he knows our team can be more successful playing balanced than him getting all the stats. He isn't Jamar..

Sengling and Gittens will both be double figure scores by the time conference starts. Personally, I'd like to see Fuller play more, but where and for whom? I really think he is the Wildcard for the Cats, but he needs to play the three, not the four. Kinda hard to do when Gittens, Royce, Fulton and Hill have all the available mins.

We should get to see a lot of Fuller in the next two home games. We, also, should get a chance to see how Fulton responds to extended minutes. It would be great if Hayek could play in at least one of those games. It doesn't feel like we are truly prepared for BSC play just yet. I hope that I feel different two weeks from now. I still believe that these guys can become a very good team. The talent is there, we just have not pushed it through the wall yet. Our day is coming. :coffee:

Good morning folks this is my first post on this website however I have been following your comments as a Wildcat fan for many years now. It is fun to keep informed with what is going on with the Wildcats through this site.

I decided to finally join in on the conversations this weekend. I too expected a better start from our Wildcats but with them being a young and a new team all at the same time it has been a difficult start and you all are right the schedule has not made it easier. I think the biggest problem they are having besides leadership has been they don't share the ball like last years team. Assist for Berry are down and Senglin and Gittens don't have good numbers there as well. That's why I think the comment about both Senglin and Gittens scoring in double figures would be a mistake maybe Senglin because he starts but Gittens does not have assist #s to talk about. Passing has to become a sickness that spreads to the entire team for them to win. Look at there one win this season the bench gave them 24 pts and even then the assist were average at best but everyone was got touches and contributed. Get back to playing Weber St basketball (Share the ball)

I agree 100%. At times it seems our offense is very 1 dimensional and turns into forced shots. Bench points would go up with easier looks which would help with better ball work. Senglin is a spot up shooter. Hands down. Im yet to see him hit a shot he created but have seen him knock down some nice spot up shots. Gittens on the other hand is the complete opposite. His first jump shot ive seen him make was that 3 against UVU and very poor foul shooting percentage. He is a get to the rim kind of a guy which takes alot of skill and I dont know if he has developed that yet. He has made some good plays yes, but also some questionable ones as well. We need to create easy chip shots to get everyones confidence flowing. We have seen spots of brightness against USU and BYU but we couldnt sustain it. We will get there!

I dont know if I would agree with playing Fuller. Our team isnt even close to one solid unit that plays well together and adding another to the mix would seem questionable at best. I would hope this game is one we can get the key solid players good minutes to work together against someone other than themselves.

The problem with our team is toughness and hustle. The guys aren't playing with a chip on their shoulders and are complacent and comfortable. I'm sorry, but Fuller deserves to get mins if he is the guy working the hardest in practice and bringing it every single day. The guys who should be sitting are those guys who are sandbagging it and think they are better than they really are. Frankly, nobody has proven that they "deserve" more mins than someone else on this team. Bolomboy is highly talented, but isn't progressing. Granted, only playing 5 games to this point hasn't helped out very much either. Our young guys are young and inexperienced, and by getting more and more experience is the only and best way to develop and progress. Lillard didn't become a star after 1 game, but it took almost to conference until he started to play harder and get what needed to be done to succeed. Really, it wasn't till the miracle comeback at home against UNCO until we knew that Lillard was going to be something extraordinarily special.

Pretty much agree, however, there certainly is room for many more assists too. I would attribute more assists to better execution of the offense, something that seems strange as all the practice time they've had seems would benefit in being comfortable and more effective in half-court sets and execution. Do you really think some of the problem is "sandbagging?" That's very disheartening if so.

Theres no doubt the minimal games played hurts, but specifically with Bolomboy, Tres, Berry, and JR, what about all the extra games played last season, especially late in the CIT? I thought that was going to be a great benefit and it's been hard to find an example of that. Frustrating.

Admittedly, I've only seen the team play for parts of the USU and UVU games this year. But these were my impressions of those games. What I saw worried me a little. The defense worries me... Especially at the end of those two games when they needed to step up the intensity it seemed the other teams scored relatively easy. I know the offense has struggled at times too. Although Gittens and Senglin have played well for true freshman, I think their inexperience is very evident at times forcing bad shots or turnovers. I've not seen the progress I was hoping to see out of Bolomboy on the offensive end either. I've noticed him really forcing things inside a few times when nothing was there. I was also hoping some players would fill the leadership void left by Mook and Bamforth. I'm not sure that has happened yet. That could take some time... The schedule certainly hasn't helped either. Who could predict a once-in-a-decade ice storm would hit the Dallas area? I know they'll develop more of a rhythm once they are playing games regularly. I worry about the lack of games before conference. Hopefully it won't take them a few games to find their feet, so to speak, when conference play begins. The UVU game was a bad loss though. That is a team Weber should beat with the talent we have.
