UW Dawg Pound Prediction

FrontFive4Life,
Reference the two boards to the right of the Retired Jerseys of Pickard and Roos, are the years we son Big Sky Champions, the other are the times we were in the run for Championships. Hope I explained it good enough for you.

Sometimes my Virgin Islands lingo get in the way.  Next time I go to Campus and write exactly what is said on both of them. Vic

thanks for the clarification. I think the right side of this picture actually was clipped off when posted on here so that was what I was wondering about. Go eags!

Yeah, chris still hasn't fixed it so that larger images are automatically resized to fit the width of the forum. If you right click and and 'view image in new tab' or whatever you can see the whole photo.

gotcha.

From the seattletimes.

Sept. 3, Eastern Washington --- Huskies minus-19. Most sports books typically don't place lines on games involving FCS teams, but we'll include this game since this whole thing is just an exercise in speculation. Eastern is the defending FCS champs, a veteran team with what could be a good passing attack. A spread of 19 might seem too low. But oddmakers also might have trouble figuring out how well the UW offense will play in this game, having to depend on a new starting QB, and the Eagles' offense seems explosive enough to put some points on the board. This might be regarded by many as the prootypical "backdoor cover,'' where a team tacks on some points late to beat the spread.

Course thats not really a Vegas line just a reporter from the Times speculating. Now a true Vegas line may come out and probably close to that...

19 points seem pretty realistic.....UW will be a good team this year, their talent level has certainly increased dramatically in the past couple of years since Sark took over.

It could be a lot closer, or a lot worse than that. But I think a 19 point spread is a pretty safe bet.

I made lots of $$$ on the Vegas line in Nevada. Hope to do it again.

Hmmm. I hope we win... I feel like it is a lot more possible than everyone on our own board is making it seem. :twocents:

I would definately like to stick it to UW and then WSU next year. Tired of hearing it from all my co-workers about how we can't hang with them.
I think the key will be obviously to stop Polk, but I think we proved last year with Villanova that we can stop one man teams, which I think UW will be without a proven QB.
Also let's not forget the Bronson factor. I am sure the coaches will be picking his brain for information about tendancies.

You know our D will be keying to stop the run, since that is where UW is likely going to be strong this season. We had mixed results against power rushing teams last year... and UW is certainly going to be a huge test. Even if we stop the run, our new secondary guys are a question mark.

I think we can probably score a few so long as we keep mistakes down. The one thing you always fear (because it surfaced a few times last year) was Mitchell making a bad mistake and then letting it go to his head. UW isn't particularly huge up front on D, and our line ought to b able to make some things happen.

Good Lord. If I had a nickel for every time we've been counted out, I'd have about a quarter. It was only last December that we heard the mighty Bison were too big and strong for us, that Villanova had too much talent, and that we would be the worst FCS championship game team since Gonzaga played football. Please. I know UW plays in the BCS, but some people either don't know anything about this Eagle team, or have really short memories.

93bird,
I feel the way you do. I have already stated my opinion on the Eagles Football Team. I saw this team work during the Spring, it looks like they haven't missed a beat. Bo will have his older brother going across the middle, and he have some great hands. I just hope there is a bus going over to UW. Constructions are going on all over on the West Side. Go Egales!!! Vic

Back to Basketball,
EWURanger,oldtimeewualum,
I got an email from Coach Hayford today about 5:02pm, I will not tell you what was in the email, it is very long. He is attempting for get a 6th man club started, he has already raised 43k :thumb: :thumb:   . The email is very positive about our BB Program. What I was very happy to read, is the team now has 13 players, all are above 2.00 gpa, :thumb: 8 of them are better than 3.00 gpa :thumb:   . That is damn great news. If any of you are willing to become a 6th man, send Coach Hayford an email, I am sure he will be glad to email you back. Let us get on board and support our "TEAMS" Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Attitude is HUGE in athletics, especially in kids. I know Coach B is not going into this game just to be close and get a paycheck. He an his staff are are awesome motivators, but the Husky staff is as well.
IMHO, if we do not hurt ourselves with mistakes we will still be in the game at the end of the 3rd qtr. Our guys will be continuing to gain confidence every series we are still in the game and by the end we will have the MO. And as you know the mighty MO is a powerful thing!
We all know we have more depth than most FCS teams, we will not be road weary, the team will have total focus because school has not started. It would not be a surprise at all for the Huskies to be looking past the Eagles. Halftime adjustments and "attitude adjustments" by the coaches will be very important.
I feel good about our chances of an upset.
Eagles 27
Huskies 24

Guys, I obviously hope we will win and I also think we have a shot for an upset if some things swing our way. My comments were just based off of some historical trends from having played Pac-10 teams throughout the years.

I remember when we played Oregon State back in 2000 I think it was and we had them on the ropes the entire game. That was the year they had Ken Simonton, Johnathan Smith, Chad Johnson, and T. J. Houshmandzadeh and beat Notre Dame 41-9 in the Fiesta Bowl to finish with an 11-1 record for the season. They beat us 21-19 after a hard fought game.

I've also seen us been absolutely blasted by Pac-10 teams before too (Arizona State 2002, Oregon State 2006, Cal 2009) so you just never know how these things are going to go.

I think our offense will score some points. We have the talent and experience there to do just that. The key will be to get the passing game going to keep them honest against the run. We have 3 or 4 receivers that would probably start on just about any Big Sky team and I know Mitchell will get the ball to them so I think we will get out yards on offense.

On defense, the focus most certainly will be on stopping Polk in the running game, so I think the game hinges on that. If they are able to grind out our defense and keep our offense off the field, then it could be a long day for the Eags. And as was mentioned, this isn't the greatest game to be breaking in two new corners.

I think we have as great a shot as any other time to pull the upset. I think this is a team that believes that they can go play anyone, anywhere, any time and beat 'em! :thumb: I was just saying that from a betting perspective, 19 points is probably a pretty safe spread for an outsider making a bet that doesn't know much about FCS or EWU - not that I don't think we can win. I do.

That is great news Vic, particularly about the academics. As I said in the Bball forum, last thing we need is APR issues when we're trying to make the bball team a Big Sky contender.

If you have any specifics on the 6th man club could you post it in the bball forum? I'm sure some folks would be curious. Me included. :thumb:

*Edit* I merged this topic with the previous UW thread since it was basically the same topic.

This x 1000! great post and i totally agree. The pundits counted us out nearly every opportunity they had last year but this team never let it phase them one bit. I dont believe for one second that this team will be blown out by five or six tds or whatever that article says. I know better!!

EWURanger,
Send an email to Coach James Hayford, [email protected], he will gladly get the info to you. He stated he will attempt at least twice a month to let prople know what is going on, etc. I am very positive about him as our Coach. Vic
