UW game plan vs EWU

Just talked to 6 UW players(discretly of course) about their 1st game of the season. Only a couple said they weren't worried about EWU(the cocky ones) but the others said they are constantly being reminded that they are playing the National Champions. They said their game plan was to get Polk over 100 yards in the fewest amount of carries possible carries since they lost their #2 RB and are thin behind Polk and want to give others some touches. Their main focus will be their QB Price getting in at least 40-50 passes no matter the score. They need to get him up and running asap...

You know, this game's getting simpler every day. If we don't let UW score early and often, I don't see how they keep up with our mix of offense. We've got an O line that can hang with them, I'll take our QB over theirs, and we have a stable of solid WRs and RBs. This could be a game like Colorado with a much better finish.

Our defense should be good this year, even with questions at the OLB spots. Honestly, if we can't put away a good Eastern team, then we are going to have a very long year in the PAC and I don't even want to think about that!

Looking at our lines, I think we will dominate both lines of scrimmage and that right there will be the deciding factor of this game. I think our DBs will match up very good against your skill players and the reverse for our offense, that our skill players will be too much for your DBs/LBs to handle/cover for very long.

Even with an inexperienced passer, I think we just have too many horses on the field for Eastern to make it a close game. I could certainly be wrong, but as we are expecting anywhere from 6-8 wins with our schedule, it would be a utter disaster if we lost the opener to EWU.

If you guys struggle to put us away I wouldnt feel so bad. Assuming EWU goes onto have a good playoff run (or better yet another title) I'd say you would have played a team that could beat a good number of IA teams.

For us EWU fans I think last years game against Nevada could be a good indicator. I was freaking out after our loss but Nevada ended up with a top 20 team. We put up a better game than most of their opponents did all year. So if UW's team is expected to be at the same level of Nevada I could see a similar score (albiet a bit closer since our offense is really starting to gell).

But if EWU does pull an upset... Well, it could be worse. Being beaten by Idaho would be a far worse loss.

i don't know about that, Idaho has been a borderline bowl team the last few years or so and are an FBS team. That said, we are I think 34-0 against them all time, so a loss would certainly be bad.

Look Purple, you're all too reasonable. I agree that the Husky depth at almost every position will be a big obstacle for even a national champion FCS team to overcome. I'm not crazy enough to say Eastern should be favored, only that if this team doesn't fall into a hole as in previous matchups with Texas Tech or Nevada, we've got enough talent to be a threat late in the game. What gives me some confidence is our ability to neutralize playmakers. Last year, Nova's all-everything Matt Szczur and his NFL offensive line were going to push Eastern around, and Penn State transfer Pat Devlin and his Delaware RB teammate Andrew Pierce were going to carve us up in the chipper. Not only did we not get pushed around, we turned the tables and did it without arguably the best FCS player Taiwan Jones. Some Eagle fans like me see this UW game as an unprecedented opportunity. For us, there is no victory to be found in any loss. We've seen our version of the promised land but want more. We want our team to show the rest of the FCS that it can beat anybody, prove that it is possible to do much more with less, and take our University to heights never seen. We're not delusional, just optimistic and confident. Your Huskies, while rightfully favored, are simply the team in our crosshairs now.

I have nothing against EWU at all. But looking at past records. EWU is 0 for against FBS teams. An FCS championship team is nothing to look beyond. Ask Michigan vs Appalachain State. As a UW fan, I am not going to guarantee a win. But, being in Husky stadium, the odds are in the Huskies favor. Good luck EWU fans. Should be a great game.

Looking at past records, the Dawgs were 0-12 (in 2008) and haven't had a winning regular season record since 2002. Sure, UW should be favored, but this is the perfect perfect season to play them. By the way, I was on the sidelines last season at the Stanford game. There was barely a whimper from the 70,000 Tyee Club members sitting on their hands as they watched the Cardinal dismantle the Huskies 41-0. I've heard more noise outside Washington Grizzly Stadium at halftime.

We're not 0-fer, as we've beat on UI a few times and UConn way back. By all means we should've beat but didn't close the deal against SJSU and Colorado.

Other than that, I agree, and welcome to our forum! I hope more Dawg fans come over to discuss the game, as the mbd board is kind of hard to read.

P.S., just got my 9 tickets for the game. Less than 3 weeks, can't wait!

We also best Utah state in 94

I think that EWU will give UW all they can handle for most of the game. They have had several teams on the ropes including Colorado State, Texas Tech, etc. UW is improving under Sarkeisian. My guess is that they will be surprised how good, Williams, Washburn and the Johnson brothers are.

Should be fun game to watch.

Our best FBS performance was having the ball late in the game with a chance to win and losing by two to a Fiesta Bowl champion OSU. It would be surprising for this Husky team to be anywhere near as good as those Beavers were and this EWU should be significantly better than the one who almost pulled off the upset.

That being said I'm making my Husky friends give a point for every scholarship we give up to them.

Really? You're talking 0-12 smack? It was 3 years ago and massive step up in schedule difficulty from what EWU plays, so by all means, continue comparing apples to oranges.

As for the mbd board, dawgman/scout.com has a button to change how the forum is displayed, I hate the nested circa 1995 crap too, which is why I changed the format button to inline or flat or whatever, like it is here. Very easy to read dawgman if you change the format.

Lighten up Francis. Nobody's comparing apples to oranges. All I'm saying is that your amazing Huskies hold the distinction of being one of the worst PAC 10 teams of the last decade. I don't consider WSU a PAC 10 team so they're off the hook.

Good One! Are they bitin on it?

I've got three takers so far. It seemed fair enough and probably close to what the actual spread will be.

And where would that button be located?

i think perhaps you might be thinking of "BCS" teams. EWU has beaten several FBS teams in the past to include current WAC members Utah State and Idaho. Also beat BSU after they moved up if i recall correctly and a couple of other schools besides those listed. so while you are correct in that we have never beaten a team from a power BCS conference, you may need to do a little more research first because although those wins are nothing to write home about your assertion is still wrong.
