Here is the bottom line: Great programs lose great players all the time, but replace them with other great players. And that is exactly what EWU will do.

I wish Vernon the best in his future endeavors, but it's time to move on.

These are my thoughts exactly and I wish more people would have expressed this from the beginning.

Baldwin profusely praising Oregon now on Portland radio, and saying he was acting out of emotion earlier in the week. He apologized for what he agrees to be needlessly disparaging the Oregon program, and he can see why Vernon would make the decision he did.

Also said Oregon went strictly by the book, and praised Mark Helfrich, too.

I guess he doesn't want the game cancelled next September.
of course he doesn't, he's a competitor. but i think buying out the game would be the right thing to do considering their unethical practices during this situation.

What are these "unethical practices?" Baldwin certainly said everything went by the book, and that VA approached Baldwin before he talked to any school. Ultimately, it was VA's decision, and Baldwin of course would have welcomed him back had VA decided to stay at EWU.

Cancel the game and shy away from the competition just because of the circumstances? Never. The team wouldn't want that, and neither do the majority of the fans.

Neither would your AD, or your school president, since your program can use every cent it gets from playing at Autzen. I give Baldwin credit for going on Portland radio and stating he was speaking from emotion. He owned his idiocy at that moment, and came across very well in his interview.

Let's end this thread admins. I started it
and I agree that it should be locked. I'm ready for a great season next year. As always its a great day to be an Eagle!

I have to say, I lost a lot of respect for VA, but I don't have any issues at all with him utilizing an existing NCAA rule to transfer somewhere else. I don't believe that Oregon "did everything by the book", but I don't really care either, because if VA doesn't want to play at EWU anymore, I don't want him here anyway.

I also don't have any issues with the HC being critical of the rule itself. It's his opinion and he shouldn't be getting blasted for it in the media for it. In my opinion, it's not a good rule for college football.

Your coach and division II program is getting destroyed in the press. I'm sure recruits will love that support going forward. Wasn't your head coach a candidate to go to Oregon State. I'm sure if he left for more
Money you guys would support him. I'm sure the coaches at EWU and players would never want to be at Oregon or Washington or USC or Stanford.

good god, could you be a little more condescending please?

and yes, I consider recruiting a player who is on scholarship somewhere else unethical. it doesnt matter when the oregon coaches spoke to him directly. they got around ncaa by using Vern's high school coach as the go-between. this wasn't a situation where a player was asked to be released from his scholarship because he was beaten out for playing time like most transfers and the ones Oregon fans are citing to be critical of Baldwin. he was the starting qb here. I find it extremely improbable that va would have asked for a release from his scholarship unless he had a pretty good idea that he was going to be taken in at oregon, which means that there was contact at some level whether that was direct or indirect is irrelevant to my argument. if you cant accept this then you just have blinders on.
