Portland State Basketball Coach Tyler Geving has announced the signing of Michael Harvey to a grant-in-aid for the 2011-12 academic year. A 6-foot-5 junior college swing man, Harvey will join the Vikings this fall.

Harvey, a transfer from Feather River (CA) Junior College, will immediately be one of the Vikings' top athletes when he joins the squad. He averaged 20.5 points and 7.6 rebounds this past season to lead Feather River. A slasher type player, Harvey also got to the free throw line an average of seven times per game, hitting 75% at the stripe.

"Michael is a real athletic wing and very versatile defensively," Geving said of his new signee. "He can guard anywhere from the one to the four on the defensive end and he is a great rebounder."

Geving compared Harvey to former Viking and All-Big Sky Conference wing Deonte Huff in terms of athleticism only with more size at 6-5, 195 pounds.

Harvey is originally from Montgomery, Alabama where he attended Sidney Lanier High School. He played two seasons at Feather River JC.

Harvey joins a Viking team that was 14-16 in 2010-11. In addition to five returning letterwinners, the Vikings have three redshirts that will be eligible to play and have signed five others for 2011-12. Geving anticipates signing one more player soon.
