volleyball 2013

Has anyone noticed the BSC Volleyball Tournament? It was a tight league this year, and the tournament so far confirms it. ISU amazingly knocked off UND in the semis - who would have expected that. And we rolled Montana last night in three sets, setting up a final tonight against ISU. We should be able to take it, but there's no certainty in tournament. ISU has a lot of momentum. It's home turf for us, however, and last night against Montana proved we're at season's peak. Schlatter is phenomenal. Haataja has never been so good. Our whole team is hitting well. And Kasey digs and digs. ISU looks a lot like us statistically, just not as good. It will be a tough match, but maybe -- on to the NCAA Regionals. Go Viks!

Once again, the Big Sky doesn't send it's best team to the NCAA (think soccer). That's not good for the league. The tournament format sucks.

Yes, ISU beat us. It was as expected a tight match all the way. But they were the better team last night. No, they won't last long in the Regionals. The BSC isn't anywhere near being able to go far in regionals, year after year. We can't begin to recruit with the likes of the Pac-12, Penn and the like. Changing the tournament format won't do anything to change that.

We're losing a lot of seniors this year; it's going to seem strange to play without Schlatter. She's been our backbone for four years. It'll be a building year, and a challenge to see how the new players fit in. But we'll be good, I'm sure. And make tournament.
