VOLLEYBALL: Setter Dominika Kristinikova, an exchange student from Slovakia who helped Auburn (Wash.) Riverside High to second place in Class 3A last year, has verbally committed to Portland State.

The 5-9, all-state player plans to returns home on June 26 and finish her final year of high school there, before heading to Portland State.

"I really like the school (PSU)," Kristinikova tells the Seattle Times. "I like that it's in a city. I'm a city girl."

Today PSU won their first match against Charleston down at the OSU Invitational. Charleston, the Southern Conference champion the last seven years, is scheduled to repeat again this year - it wasn't an easy match, took five games. Tomorrow we take on Wyoming. This is likely to be a very good year for PSU volleyball! Zielke, a 6'3" sophomore transfer from UO, contributed a quite a few kills; we might well have found the replacement for Segun.

Sorry but I hope Wyoming wins.

PSU Volleyball Match On National Television Tonight

http://www.goviks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?temp_site=NO&DB_OEM_ID=19300&ATCLID=1595246

Portland State's volleyball match at Northern Arizona tonight will air live on national television at 7:00 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast on FSN Arizona, Fox College Sports (FCS) Pacific and Dish Network channel 9411.

In the Portland area, FCS Pacific can be found on Comcast channel 415, and Verizon channel 302.

The Vikings (11-3, 4-0 Big Sky) are the only unbeaten team left in the Big Sky Conference, but will face a stiff challenge from an NAU squad that is off to its best start in years. The Lumberjacks are 10-2 overall and 2-1 in conference action, and are coming off their first win over Sacramento State since 2003, as they swept the Hornets this past Thursday.

NAU and PSU have met a total of 24 times, all Big Sky matches, with NAU holding a 15-9 lead in the series. However, PSU has won the past seven meetings dating back to the 2004 season, including five via the sweep. The Vikings last loss to NAU came in Flagstaff in 2004.

The match can also be viewed over the Internet by going to www.BigSkyTV.org. Live stats will also be available. Go to www.GoViks.com, and click on the Live Stats link on the right hand side of the page.

PSU won their game again tonight, beating Northern Arizona 3 sets to 1. They're looking better and better. They're 5-0 in Big Sky now, firmly set in first place. It sure helps to win these away games. The match was much closer than the score indicates; it was tight in every set, right down to the last one. Our depth gives us the advantage - recruiting's been terrific. We were down by 7 in the last set, but ran off a string that totally demoralized NAU. A great game to watch. When these games are on full-screen computer as this one was, I'd urge everyone to take a glance. Maybe even watch the whole thing.

We beat Gonzaga in volleyball today, 3-1, after losing three in the New Mexico tune up last week. Hope they've found the groove now - we're taking on Boise State and U. of Washington tomorrow. UW will be a challenge.

We beat Boise State 3-0, then lost to Washington in the finale 0-3 (Washington's No. 3 in the country, presently 6-0). Fradella and Philips, who transfered in from New Mexico State this year, were spectacular!

Isn't it about time we set up a volleyball line on this board?

Fradella Tabbed As Big Sky Player of the Week

The BSC volleyball challenge is on us, and the top three are emerging - EWU, PSU, maybe ISU and UM. PSU lost a very good senior, but replaced her with a transfer from New Mexico State who looks even better. Having said that, PSU has lost to nationally ranked UO, UW, and Cal so far. But then, EWU has lost to St. Marys, Cal, and UO too, while ISU has been beaten by Arizona State, Utah State, UTEP and USC. UM has lost to Fullerton, Irvine, Virginia Tech, and Greensboro - they squeaked by North Dakota. The BSC has a ways to go to be nationally ranked. MSU and Sac State are clearly rebuilding and not in the race, alas.

Tomorrow PSU plays Davis and Nevada, which will have something to say about their ambitions.

Fradella Claims Second Straight BSC Player Of The Week Honor

http://www.goviks.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=19300&ATCLID=204794108

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland State's Nique Fradella has claimed her second straight Big Sky Conference Player of the Week award for matches played the week of Sept. 7-14.

Fradella helped lead Portland State to a 3-0 record last weekend as the Vikings won the Circus Circus Invitational in Reno. She was tabbed as the tourney's MVP after averaging 11.00 assists per set and hitting .429.

In the Vikings 3-1 win over UC Davis on Saturday she recorded her third double-double of the season with 43 assists and 10 digs. She connected on 5-of-7 attempts for a .571 hitting percentage while adding three blocks and two service aces.

Fradella finished out the tournament with 46 assists against the host Wolfpack as PSU won 3-1. She also had 32 assists, two blocks and five kills in the Viks sweep of Sam Houston State on Friday.

Over PSU's four matches last week, including a 3-1 loss at No. 12 Oregon on Tuesday, Fradella averaged 10.07 assists and 1.87 digs per set.

The senior setter from Lake Arrowhead, Calif. has won the weekly award five times in her career. She was also honored twice in 2007 and once as a freshman in 2006.

The Vikings (5-5) are back in action this weekend at the Stott Center when they host Montana State on Friday and Montana on Saturday. Both matches are set for 7 p.m.

We beat MSU tonight, 3-0. Tomorrow, Montana. We can salve our football wounds by watching our volleyball team roll over the Griz - it's on Big Sky TV on the computer for those who can't go over to the Stott.

Volletball won again tonight, beating Montana 3-0. This follows a win against MSU last night 3-0. Montana was better than MSU, but not quite good enough. The stats tells it all. Looking forward to Eastern Washington and Northern Colorado! While football struggles, volleyball is on its way to a conference championship. Is anyone watching??
