Volleyball

You've got a point. But don't they make some of them? I'm thinking about PSU as a commuter school, with half the women working, living at home etc. and finding time to volunteer to show up at volleyball games. In theory they should be at soccer games too, but.... I don't know how it works. On some campus schools - isn't UO one of them? - cheering is listed as a sport with no doubt scholarships and other money. Weird.

I've never seen cheer at a game, not even when we hosted the BSC tournament last year, which I thought was pretty lame, they at least should've been at those games!

The cheers didn't come out but 900 fans did, to see PSU sweep EWU 3-0 tonight. Phillips hit a phenomenal 25 kills while Fradella put out an equally phenomenal 40 assists. EWU hit 8 serving errors, which helped, This was no easy sweep, and next week's UNC will be still tougher. If we beat them, though, we should win the conference, with only Sac State and Northern Arizona remaining. UNC has a stalwart front line and Jepson, Zielke and Hamilton will have their hands full. Northern Arizona comes first on Friday, UNC on Saturday. Be there!

Man it sucks that I had to miss last night's game and I'll have to miss both games next weekend! I am going to be travelling to EWU for the tournament though!

Fantastic match! We looked shakey in the first set, UNC seemed to block everything we threw at them. Seeman called a time out, and when we came back instead of slamming the ball for kills we were dropping it over their arms and it worked. It worked, in fact, for the rest of the match. We just got better and better. 10 ace serves?! I'm guessing UNC was worn out from the EWU game last night. Now we have to roll over Sac State and into the tournament. Cheney won't be easy, but if we play like we did tonight we'll take the tournament and on to the NCAA.

What was the attendance tonight? Looked like 900 or so.

Go Viks!!!!!

Sounds like it was an amazing game, I'm sad to have missed it. I'm looking forward to heading to Cheney in a couple of weeks!

We played our last volleyball match of regular conference play tonight, taking out Sac State down there 3-1. As I noted over on goviks, Phillips got 24 kills, impressive even for her. Be nice if we were to develop more hits from the right side for variety. So we head into the tournament. #1 seed is nice, but we'll end up playing either EWU or UNC again. It's been pointing to that all season.

An even greater win against Montana tonight, 3-1. We played exceptionally well in the first set, then very nearly let the Griz back in. We'll have to be more consistent tomorrow when we take on UNC for the title. UNC was taken to five sets tonight by EWU. They may be a little tired - but I wouldn't count on it.

I wouldn't say we played exceptionally well at all. But what matters is that they got the W. They will definitely have to step it up a bit and play really hard tonight. It will be a good game.

We hit at .385% the first set then dropped to 0% in the second. Something sure changed. We let up or they ramped up. Probably both. We'll have to hit at least .200% every set tonight to win.

It's a no go for us. We didn't play our best and UNC brought their A+ game...

Tumwater middle blocker signs with Portland State

http://www.theolympian.com/2010/04/18/1210034/volleyball-tumwater-middle-blocker.html

Tumwater middle blocker Cara Olden will play volleyball for Portland State this coming fall, as announced by the university Friday afternoon.

The two-time first-team all-EvCo pick helped Tumwater win the 2A state title in 2008, and to a runner-up finish in '07.

"We are excited to have Cara join our program this fall," Portland State coach Michael Seemann said in a release. "Cara will
provide immediate depth in the middle for us. She brings an excellent work
ethic and is an outstanding student. We are fortunate to have a
student-athlete of Cara's abilities representing Portland State."

The Vikings won the Big Sky Conference regular-season title last fall, and advanced to the NCAA Division I tournament in 2008.
