Walsh Considering Army?(Walsh lands OC Position @ Army)

I like the suggestion of Jay locey.. Locey was tremendously successful at Linfield as head coach and an understudy to legendary Ad Rutschman.. He has been at OSU for the past year as an assistant. Downside is that I would like to see him with a couple more years experience at the D-1 level.

he did wonders at Linfield, didn't hear the or but that would be great

OSU has a good season every 3 years, not consistent at all, besides an assitant postion there can't be his dream job, hopefully we take a shot at him

I think somebody who is a current coordinator in the Big Sky or a position coach at a nearby Pac-10 or WAC school might be a more realistic get. I just don't see Allioti or Davis or anybody like that coming to PSU at this point in the university's development.

The more I think about, I say just promote one of the coordinators for awhile and see how that works out.

"And see how that works out".....that's been the problem with this place, we settle for average and the easy thing to do. I dont want to take a chance....I want to search and get the best coach for PSU!!! Period.

If after the search one of the coordinators is the best for the job....then hire them....I dont however want to just hire one of them and HOPE IT WORKS OUT. Thats not how successful businesses/corporations work. If we want to reach that next level....conduct a national search with Mouse, June, and even Borges being consultants to the search committee. They understand our university and would be support to the athletic department that is without an athletic director.

Mouse may be leaving Hawaii very soon.
Portland st should atleast bring him in as a temp AD.
And no june is not leaving Hawaii but he does send players portland st's way.

I won't leave either and not just because of the job he has.

------Breaking News-------

Just heard from inside sources that confirm Walsh will be leaving for the Army and a new interim head coach will be named shortly after they announce this publicly. Any guesses on who will be the new coach? I would think Jeff Hoover the offensive coordinator would take over unless they (whom 'they' is remains to be determined as well) have someone in mind with more credentials. I like the idea of Mouse Davis coming over to be the AD. He obviously brings alot to the table and we wouldn't find anyone with more of a committed drive for bringing PSU to the top.

our new coach could be anyone, I'm pretty sure our new AD will be someone with no big ties to PSU, some names have been thrown around, they all are from elsewhereLast edited by on 2007-02-12, 17:53; edited 1 time in total

Allow me to clarify my position. I'd prefer promoting a coordinator to having a hurried haphazard search bring in somebody from the outside. Also, consider that our defense is already 1st rate, and we probably would have been in the playoffs a couple of times in recent years if Walsh had just loosened the reigns on offense. If you follow me and prescribe to the if it ain't broken don't fix it philosophy, then maybe a less conservative coordinator would get us to the next level. Of course, this all assumes that Walsh is the reason for our conservative offense.

THAT IS MY POINT EXACTLY...HIRING A COORDINATOR ON STAFF WOULD BE A "hurried haphazard search". RESEARCH AND FIND THE BEST AVAILABLE COACH. DONT DO THE EASY/LAZY THING, AND JUST HIRE SOMEONE ON STAFF.
