Walsh once coached PSU to a #2 ranking, one play-off appearance, and a lot of 7-4 records. We grew impatient with him because he could never seem to break that ceiling of just coming up short of making the play-offs year after year.

The way I see it is "Walsh's Ceiling" is now "Walsh's Floor". ANY improvements in coaching staff, player personnel, game management, or game preparation will immediately see improvements over the foundation set by Walsh and his staff.

There will be a period of adjustment to the new system. I would say a reasonable amount of time would be three games. I know McNeese has improved, but I believe Walsh's team from last year would be able to not only compete very well with them, but also be very capable of winning that game.

Transistioning to the new system will likely hamper our team performance somewhat, but I expect that we should be in fine stead considering the multiple advantages we have this year over last year. The Army OC did set a good foundation for us.

This is a good thought. But as you point out the first three games are the period of adjustment and are also very tough. A win at McNeese would be huge.

I like this post and agree with just about all of it, but I think the period of adjustment will be more than 3 games. At least half a season seems fair to me, but I still think our schedule will enable us to improve upon Walsh's record.
