I notice Coach Baldwin did not tweet about the defensive side of the ball.

Oh really... :tothehand:

Looks like he tweated about the whole team. Last time I checked, that includes the defense...that helped produce "the best 14 game stretch in our history." We played arguably the toughest non conference schedule in the country, and certainly one of the toughest in our history.

Would you still be dogging the defense if we would've batted the ball down in the end zone?

Exactly. It literally took the Sports Center play of the day for them to beat us.

Fortunate to attend 12 of our games this season, missed Fargo and Flagstaff. Anyone who feels this wasn't a successful season should follow another team, we will be fine without you.

Looking forward to the Texas Tech game, working on a plan to get there and support the best college football program I'm aware of. True student-athletes who love community service, coaches who care about their players and a tailgate that grows every season. We are blessed to be Eagle fans.

See you at the NLI breakfast. Go Eagles.

So I missed all the stats Coach Baldwin tweeted after tweeting his offensive stats?

Sick of excuses and no results.

Man1, can you please share those tweets with us? Because the only ones I saw are the ones Ranger posted, and those were about the success of the team.

And why does it seem all you want to do it point the finger at the defense in regards to the last game? I can see critical plays on special teams, offense, and coaching decisions that may have had as critical an impact on the game...looks like you are the one not focused on the whole picture.

I can't believe this is even a question. 12-2 record that made it to the final 4 and the only two losses were to other final 4 teams.... Hmmm, I'll take it. Despite losing a heartbreaker to YSU, as a whole, the season wasn't even a disappointment especially when you consider what the pre-season expectations were. If the question was "is there room for improvement?" then absolutely. Any notion that this coaching staff is incompetent and/or unprepared is wildly uneducated and unfounded. Just think about it: a relatively small school, in a small town in eastern Washington, with a small budget..... Wins Big Sky titles regularly, is a perennial national title contender and, since 2010, has had a Buchannan award winner, two Walter Payton award winners (could be three in a couple weeks), and two Walter Payton runner up (same guy) is clear evidence that this coaching staff knows what they're doing in-terms of recruiting talent, developing talent and making winning game plans. What's more is that there has been virtually no off-field issues or violations (knock on wood). Suggesting that we need a new recipe for success is ridiculous. I agree that there are things we can improve on but wouldn't that be the case even if we won the title? So yeah, this season was a success and this program is a success.

Sick of the johnny come lately, fake fans with no clue. But that's just me.

It's no secret that in the past I have been very critical of the defense on this board. My only real expectation for this season was for the team to show improvement in that area and I don't think there can be any question that they did that. It may not be quite up to fan's expectations but they are getting there. Losing a few stud Seniors will hurt some, but I actually see a lot of upside for this squad next year. Overall, this season was wildly successful with a Pac 12 win and a semifinal appearance.

Atomic, right on! I concur on your full statement. Cal Poly for example next year does NOT play EWU, ND, UM or MSU. Winning BSC is nice and players do get a ring but with schedule format who knows? Playoffs top goal. I don't even know who got the auto bid this season...anyone know?
So that is a break even schedule for them two loses to ND & EWU and wins over the Montana schools. the uneven schedules do make it hard for a fare champion but we do have a great playoff system for the Nat. Champ.

What he's saying is that they don't play any of those schools.

This season was a massive success especially since we were essentially praying for a spot in the playoffs preseason, hoping for a 8-3 season.

Gage was on absolute fire this year, and Offensive line outperformed expectations by miles.

Kupp has established himself as the greatest Eagle ever as both a player and more importantly as a human being.

Our running game has HUGE upside next year, and our defense can definitely take another step forward next year and we will be a top 4 team again next year.

The biggest disapointment is that we missed an EWU/NDSU championship game that would be followed by a week 2 (or 0?) season opener the following year...and I suppose that Coop never got a chance at his ring.

:notworthy:

Most quarterfinal appearances in the 2010's:

NDSU 7
EWU 5
Sam Hou 5
Rest of the Big Sky 3 (none since 2013 other than the Eags)

I'd rather be an alum of a school where winning a national championship is the expectation every season. Losing in the semi's where for the third time this decade EWU was a defensive stop from winning or getting the ball for a winning drive away from Frisco is frustarting but.....no other program west of the Mississippi River has the same expectation going into each season as Eagle nation.

This thread.

Personally, I'm thrilled to be a fan of one of the best damned football programs on the west coast.

So if we don't win a NC every year the season is a disappointment? Personally I think that's unreasonable and I'm surprised to see that two people voted that way. I'm even more surprised that someone voted "Beating the Griz" would make a successful season. I don't think that's where we're at as a program.

THIS SEASON with THIS GROUP of PLAYERS and THIS HEAD COACH & only UNSEEDED Youngstown & 4th seeded JMU standing in the way of a 2nd National Title in 7 seasons is a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!
