Was this season a success? "YES"
Was the season a MAJOR disappointment? "YES"
So if we don't win a NC every year the season is a disappointment? Personally I think that's unreasonable and I'm surprised to see that two people voted that way.
THIS SEASON with THIS GROUP of PLAYERS and THIS HEAD COACH & only UNSEEDED Youngstown & 4th seeded JMU standing in the way of a 2nd National Title in 7 seasons is a MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!
I think your original post was spot on. It's hard to argue this wasn't a tremendous season. It exceeded the expectations of most of the fans and media. And we were will within reach of making the NC. And therein lies the disappointment. So close, once again. It sucks to keep getting within a score of the NC, and yet somehow not making it over than hump.
YSU was better than their record indicated, and they have a very good coaching staff and solid depth. And semifinalist is going to be a tough out, and these games can really go either way.
With all due respect: I don't wanna hear that bullshxt!
Eastern Washington & The Kupps' CHOKED!
/thread.
I don't think it can be pinned on just two players, especially Cooper, who probably had as much of a positive impact on the game as anyone. There were several different key plays that could be pointed to both offensively and defensively that could've been a difference maker for the game.
Personally, I think if the TD hadn't happened in the endzone, Ketner would've been called for holding or PI. And, even if not, they still would've had one more play, so who knows.
I think other issues were the clock management on the last drive, and the wacky kickoff. Would've been better to kick it deep. If the returner would've run it back, we would've had the ball last. If he got a great return, it's hard to imagine him getting better field position then they got. Heck, it would've been better to try an actual on-side.
I get that these opportunities are very rare, but to say a team choked against another team that only lost to a ranked FBS team, and two seeded MVFC teams is a bit of a stretch, IMO. We could've, and probably should've won they game. Buy YSU had about every element of their game going for them at the end of their season: a good balanced offense that thrives on running the ball, but can pass effectively, anchored by an elite offensive line, a stiff defense, and solid special teams. We were a lot more one dimensional then they were, and definitely did not have the best defense on the field that day, and weren't great on special teams, and lost the turnover battle, yet were leading up till the end. Don't know...I wouldn't quite call that two players choking.
