I am looking foward to seeing you in Odgen for the tourny. I hope you bring lot a fans to the games and maybe your band.

A well deserved conference title. One of the reasons why I hate conference tournaments is that the regular season doesn't mean anything to the NCAA Tournament when it comes to us smaller conferences.

As an alumni, a friend and I are heading out to Ogden for the games so that should be fun...But the games are at the worst possible time for students....on a Tuesday and Wednesday and what I have heard from many of my friends still in school is that they can't miss class and if they did decide to drive out they would end up missing three days of classes. I really wish the games could have been closer to the weekend because it's going to make the trip for students nearly impossible.

Well, the students will need to save their money for the Big Dance when we win the Big Sky tournament so it might not be a bad thing. :D

what you talkin bout willis?

Whatever happens in the conference tournament, we will make the postseason. I dont know about you guys, but making a small tournament and getting the additional games and practice time would be just as big as winning the Big Sky tournament and making the dance (Chances are pretty good the Big Sky winner ends up 14 or 15 and draws somebody in the top 15 right away).

Are we locked into the NIT?

The Selection Process AFTER the NCAA takes its 65: If Weber were to lose in the Big Sky tournament, they would get an automatic berth to the NIT. Having said that, the NIT and CBI compete with each other over teams, with the CIT (which is an exclusive mid major deal) waiting until after the other two are done. If we dont win the Big Sky, we are more than likely headed to the CBI or the CIT, but the NIT could decide "Yeah, they're from a small conference, but 25-6 (assuming a loss to Weber for the Big Sky title) and an RPI around 95 is good enough." and take us anyway. We AREN'T locked into the NIT though. Perks of playing in the smaller deals---possibility of starting off at home, or nearby (The CBI could take CU---they don't have a .500 record requirement. CSU and DU may also end up in the CBI or CIT.) ......Hope that helps guys

Great information. I have never even heard of the CBI or CIT.

My concern is how far this team can go without Beitzel. If I remember correctly, he was the second highest scorer on the team. His defense was outstanding as well.

And #7 in the country in 3 pnt percentage.

Great season Bears fans! Although it's not over yet, you guys should be proud of how your team has played this year and how successful they have been since joining the Big Sky. My Cats have a tough first round matchup against NAU, but who knows, if we can advance to the tourney in Ogden, maybe our two squads will hook up again. Good luck in the tourney!

Thanks Cat. You are a classy guy and from what I've heard your fans are classy as well. Good luck in the tournament. And IMO, this is the year your football team and UNC will take down the Griz.

i think a team from the big sky will go to the NIT regardless of the outcome of the big sky tourney.

since 1990 we have only had 6 NIT appearances with only 1 win, MSU beat USU in Logan, UT, after falling in the semifinal while hosting in 2002. I was at that tournament.

As we know the rule is if you host and choke u get in the NIT no matter what. But this year we will have 3 20 win teams for the first time since 1996 which was back when Idaho, Nevada and Boise St were in the Big Sky.

As for the CBI...could we get a 3rd team into the post season? I have no clue...

If the Big Sky tourney game wins all go to the highest seeds then i would think UNC would be a lock for the NIT with a 25-7 record. But you really never know what is gonna happen just look at last yr or even this past decade...

2009: WSU hosts, PSU goes dancin
2006: NAU hosts, UM goes dancin
2005: PSU hosts, UM goes dancin
2002: MSU hosts, UM goes dancin

So I guess the trend says watch out for UM. UM's coach left for the NBA after the back to back tourneys in 2005/2006.

Thats where you start playing the bracket game again.......From an NIT selection committee member's POV: Is a UNC team who is 25-7 (assuming the Big Sky seeds hold to form and Weber beats UNC for the Big Sky title) and has really just the Weber win at home (only team with an RPI lower than 100 we've beaten) more worthy than a Virginia (hypothetical) team who has 16 or 17 wins in the ACC with wins over Georgia Tech (RPI 30), North Carolina (RPI 91), and Miami (RPI 89)? Is a UNC team with 25 wins and 1 quality win more deserving than an Alabama team with 16-17 wins in the SEC....but with wins over Baylor and Mississippi State? Remember: If UNC finishes #2 and DOES NOT win the Big Sky tournament, the NIT is not obligated to take UNC, or Montana. Thats where the nonconference schedule we played (which looked OK six months ago--I dont think anybody thought Oklahoma would look as unorganized as they do---last week in Boulder was the prime example) becomes a factor in our postseason fate. Granted, go to Ogden and win a couple games and it doesn't matter.

FYI Bears fans - UNC plays Tuesday March 9 in Ogden at 4:30 mountain time if they beat either Sac State or the #6 seed (if UM beats MSU).
