Another interesting game this Saturday against Weber St. They have an identical record to us, and have wins over equally rotten teams such as McNeese St (2-5), Butler (5-2, but in a terrible conference), and everyone's favorite...Portland St. (0-7). So, I'd say their resume is about the same as ours.
Offensively, they are also fairly similar in that they want to run the ball first. Their Qb, who I believe replaced their original starter, has only 4 TD's thrown to 9 INT's. The main difference is that they get their yards on the ground out of their backs and not their Qb's like Eastern does.
Defensively, they are giving up 39.4 points a game and have struggled to defend the run at times, giving up 396 yards on the ground to Sac St., 313 to JMU, 259 to McNeese, and even 185 yards to Butler. It sort of goes without saying that we'll try to lean on them to run the ball.
Eastern's defense is giving up 32.5 points per game after holding Idaho to only 14 yesterday. Is the defense improving at all, or was it just the case of facing a really terrible Idaho offense? Maybe a little of both.
Both teams gave up 27 points in wins against Portland St.
From what I can observe, both teams are almost a mirror image of each other: Identical records with wins against bad teams, struggling offenses that don't have tons of weapons, and defenses that can play ok against bad competition, but get smoked against elite teams.
I'd say Weber will probably be 7-10 point favorites at home, but this is another game that's certainly winnable if Eastern comes prepared to play.
