Weber State Game!

So, come Thursday we all will see just how good our Bears are compared to the rest of the big sky. Weber is consistently a top team and that's shown by their 18 tournament experiences. After looking over their stats and comparing the teams..

It looks as if Yahosh is going to have his hands full once again. Damian Lillard was a top recruit in the NATION two years ago and he is now the leading scorer for the cats. I have faith that Yahosh can limit Lillard's touches and make every shot he takes a tough one.

The biggest difference from these two team is 3pt% the Bears just have better shooters from the outside than Weber. That being said we need to play tight D and get rebounds on both sides of the ball..Looking at the box score from the MSU @ Weber game they dominated the Bobcats on the O glass. If we can make our open jumpers(Unlike the NAU game) and clean up the glass I'm confident that we will come away with a W...I really hope that the people of Greeley come out once again and support this team...Last game before students should be back up north.
Go Bears!
P.S. Weber guys who come on this board let me know how accurate you think this is? and maybe you guys could make a comparison from Weber's side.
Thanks

I would agree that the Bears are a better shooting team than the Wildcats. Shooting isn't Weber's strength. But Weber is very well coached and do three important things pretty well. They rebound well, generally take care of the ball, and shoot well from the free throw line. They are also an above average defensive team. With the exception of Lillard, Weber isn't the most talented team in the league, but due to good coaching and the above mentioned things, they are one of the top teams in the league. One of the things, other than shooting, that Weber has struggled with this season is starting slowly. Don't be surprised if the Bears come out strong, build an early lead, and have a halftime lead. But also, don't be surprised if the Wildcats come back to take the lead later in the game. This team has been very resilient and has come back from some big deficits this year. And one last thing Weber has been very good at during Coach Rahe's time has been winning conference road games. Weber has won ten straight conference road games, dating back to Feb. 2008. In other words, they are not intimidated on the road. Good luck on Thursday. It should be a great game.

Also, some of you Bear fans may be familiar with Coach Rahe, as he spent a lot of years coaching in Colorado. From his bio on Weber's web site:

"Rahe began his coaching career on the high school level in Colorado. During his tenure as the head coach at Stratton High School (1985-88) he was twice named District Coach of the Year leading his teams to district and league championships in 1986, 1987 and 1988. His teams posted an overall mark of 54-17, earning two third-place finishes in state tournaments.

Rahe got his first taste of coaching on the collegiate level in 1988-89, when he joined the staff at Colorado College as an assistant. He went on to serve as an assistant at the University of Colorado (1989-90) and the University of Denver (1990-91) before beginning his long association with Stew Morrill at Colorado State and Utah State.

While at CSU, Rahe helped the Rams to an overall mark of 121-86 and three appearances in the NIT in seven seasons."

I'm really looking forward to this game; already bought my tickets!! Should be a great one to watch in person. Weber's been at the top of the conference for quite a while, and hopefully this year's Bears will give them a good fight for the top spot!

BIG SKY GAME OF THE WEEK. regardless what altitude says.

Totally agree with you on this one WILDCAT! :)

Go Bears!! 8)

Did any of you think Lindy's or Athlon's take on UNC was funny? Its in the article on WEberhoops.com. Talk about being way off!

WOW! Just read the take on the Bears...And I gotta tell ya they were really off. Do they watch big sky basketball. The funniest line is that "It appears the Bears have .500 talent at best and lack the inside presence needed to make a significant move this year." LOL..WOW talk about wrong predictions..Those two should write rebuttals fast and MAYBE they can save some face!

Tad Boyle's Northern Colorado club has been one of the big surprises in the mid-major world. NC jumped out to a 7-0 start and are currently 13-3 heading into Thursday's showdown with defending regular-season champion Weber State. I'm excited to see how Weber State's Damian Lillard, the league's top scorer, matchups up with Northern Colorado super defender Yahosh Bonner. Northern Colorado has received excellent guard play from senior Will Figures and junior Devon Beitzel. The Bears are also very strong on the defensive end. Northern Colorado is 2-1 in conference right now with road wins over Northern Arizona and Montana. The loss came on the road to Montana State.

Randy Rahe's Weber State club has won 15 straight conference games, including 10 in a row on the road. That streak will be tested against the Bears on Thursday. Lillard is having an MVP-type campaign so far. The sophomore is coming off a career-high 30 points in a win over Montana. Rahe was asked Thursday to compare this year's team to the team that went 15-1 last season. Rahe said this year's Wildcats' aren't as good shooting the ball, but are a better rebounding team. Rahe needs newcomer Franklin Session to find his shooting stroke. The junior can rebound and dish out assists, but has struggled with his shot. Senior post Steve Panos also needs to assert himself in conference play. Weber State also needs its bench to score more. The reserves combined for 12 points in two games last week.

Congrats on a good win. But man, you all need to get some more fans out to watch your team. They are a team worth watching.

That was one of our smallest crowds of the year at 1,340. 3 of our 5 home games have had crowds of at least 2,700.

The crowd was REALLY disappointing.

I don't know if it was the weather (even though it's been pretty poor for much of the last month) or the football title game. I don't know. I hope there is an excuse.

The guys looked so good. Everything looks so easy right now. It's almost scary. It's almost like our record is leading a perception of us as this monster of a team (which we are! :)) and teams turn into something they aren't. Weber left its feet on defense an innumerable amount of times. A sure sign of a rattled ball club.

We could have won this game by 30. Think about that ...

The game was great. The crowd wasn't. Looks like the Texas-Alabama FB game and the single digit temps kept a lot of people home. Students are back this weekend, so the crowds should start getting better.
