Weber State @ James Madison

Hey Wildcats! Looking forward to matching up against y'all again!

I'm curious how you anticipate Weber handling our Defensive Line. No FCS team has come close to containing them. Here's my preview of what you'll see in this aspect of the game, and I'm hoping that someone here can give me their preview of your OL and how you anticipate you'll counter our team.

On the edges we've got 1st team AA and Buch Buchanon Finalist Ron'Dell Carter (6'3"270, Team Captain, and heart and soul of the team) and 2nd team AA, 7th place Buch Buchanan semi finalists John Daka (6'2", 230). The strange thing is that a LOT of JMU fans believe that Daka is the better of the two players.

Ron'Dell is probably the more all-round player....he's bigger, and can rush the edge or moved inside on passing downs. Daka is a sack machine....he leads FCS in sacks. While Carter is currently graded as a 6th rounder, Daka will likely have to move to LB at the next level.

On the interior we have Adeeb Atariwa (6'3" 277) and Mike Greene (6'3" 285). They're stout run defenders, and absolutely clog the middle. They're both relatively low body fat guys, and stay on the field for pretty much the entire game. Greene especially seems to be at his fastest in the 4th quarter. Interior D-Line guys usually don't get a lot of hype, but if you try to run between the tackles you've got your work cut out for you.

We don't blitz much unless it's an obvious passing situation. We can usually get decent pressure on the QB only rushing 4 guys. When we do blitz, it can come from pretty much anywhere. Overall, our game plan on the line is straight forward....rush four guys, blow things up as much as possible.

So, what do you think your game plan might be?

Current lines:
JMU -15 1/2 o/u 47
NDSU - 17 o/u 47

Our game originally had a higher o/u than the NDSU-MSU matchup which surprised me. Not surprised it’s been bet down and I expect it will go even a little lower.

for sure under 47 for this game.

Usually you try to run to open up the pass, but I think if Weber is to have any success they must Pass to open up the run. Short quick 3 step passes very similar to the way the Patriots play ( and I hate the Patriots) get the Dukes on their heels and dont let up. And then if able go deep but not too much. Up tempo offense though not our strength might help the Cats out in this one. JMU is fast on both sides, we are going to have to try to match it. Im not sure our slow and steady offense will work this time.

Hey it wasnt their fault, remember it was dark and it was snowey and they couldnt see Weber because of their black uniforms. I mean the audacity of wearing dark colors on your home field.....

He's just saying that if you ask JMU fans (or really just about anyone), they'll tell you Weber has no chance to move the ball, score, or win this game. And I'll have to admit, on paper, JMU should win going away. Biggest concern is the Weber offense being able to get anything on a very good defense. Weber's run game has been nonexistent in the playoffs and their QB has thrown some of the worst balls he's thrown all season. But, this Weber team has been doubted much of the season and yet they're 11-3 and in the national semi-finals. And they've been in every game but one. So, I wouldn't be so fast to write them off in this game. But their defense must play like they did last week, and the offense has to score at least two touchdowns to even have a chance. And the defense or special teams might have to score a touchdown as well.

For the record I think Weber has a good chance of winning this game...Hope it is a cat fight for the natty.
If you want a really funny read, with lots of sarcasm, go over to eGriz and read the interchange between Bozeman, North Dakota, and Missoula. I had a good laugh. :coffee:

That first TD drive JMU has a lot of holds all the way down the field. Super visible
Having spoken to officials from 3 different conferences, I can tell you that these things are not consistent across the country. What is holding in the BSC may not be holding anywhere else. Teams just have to adjust. With a crew from the south west for the UM game, a lot of situations that would have been holding during league play, were not considered holding. It would be nice if each crew came with their own operating manual for coaches to use in the week's preparation. :coffee:

Are you seriously calling a timeout there? It's a 51 yd FG attempt in the 1st half. Let them kick it. And the worst hell Mary defense I've ever seen. Without that score I feel okay about this game. Now, it's basically over.
