Weber State @ Lamar

I don’t know much about these upcoming Southland teams. Playing on the road is tough, so it’s definitely going to be a challenge in my opinion.

Hoping the Wildcats can keep the momentum going.

Lamar has not been good historically. However, they won their game against Mississippi Valley State this past week and seemed to have a solid running attack. Looking at their record over the past few years, they seem to be improving a bit. Playing in the heat of Texas shouldn't be a big deal. It's been hot here as well.

This game should be a win, but anything can happen on the road. Still, I fully expect us to ake care of business on the road. We certainly have a lot of things to improve apon over these next three games. We will need to play as cleanly as possible for the rest of our BSC games.

This one could get tricky if we let it. Long road trip and it will be about 90° and very humid. Lamar is no longer stuck in the basement of the Southland either. They lost to Texas State by 7, but were outgained by 200+ yards. They beat Mississippi Valley by 14, which is… not great. Lamar has over 260 yards of penalties in two games so if they can cut back on that they should be a formidable opponent.

We’ll probably be favored by 17 or so. If we play a clean game we should roll, but if we’re sloppy with turnovers and penalties it won’t be comfortable.

They are certainly a worthy opponent. Formidable? I suppose we could say the same about ourselves.

All things considered, I feel we should win this one on the road. Road games are a great time for team building and learning to deal with adversity. What ever the outcome, this will be a growth experience for our guys. Our young team needs this sort of experience.

This is brutal…should have been a win. Kicking game has been weak for years…gotta kick the FG on the one, but missed a makable kick at the end.

I honestly think a winning season may be out of reach.

Kyle Thompson has been very inconsistent his whole career I don't get why Weber stays with him he can't handle pressure it is frustrating watching him

Look, you’re not wrong, but the two blocked kicks weren’t his fault. And it wasn’t his fault he didn’t get the chance to kick an 18 yard field goal to give us the lead.

I’m not sure what I’m more concerned about- 1) the coaching; or, 2) getting bullied on the line of scrimmage by a middle of the pack Southland team.

Mental is not a Division 1 head coach sorry after this season the whole staff needs to be gone and start over. Myers switching O lineman regularly is awful they can't establish any continuity. The defense is also very inconsistent. I have been a season ticket holder since Mac took over but if Mental is there next year I will no longer be a season ticket holder. Crompton seems very lazy about hiring new coaches it seems all he does it wait a few weeks or a month and promote from within 🤔

Not kicking the field goal is bad. Getting two blocked is really bad. 4 rushes inside the 5 to win the game and can’t score is the most bad. There was space there. RB has to finish those runs. Brutal.

Totally agree with you. Wildcats have lost lots of games not trying a FG because they don’t trust him to make a clutch kick. Teams could pick up a kicker in the portal easily.

I think this game revealed some weaknesses that have me selling on the idea the Wildcats can get a winning season.

I’m just concerned that not a lot of interest occurred in applying for the opening when Hill left. This coaching performance today is awful…and offense still doesn’t impress me for Mental. Oh well, Utah Hockey Club starts up soon.

We used to have a winning culture in the WSU Athletic Department. That changed when Greybeal became athletic director and has worsened even more under Crompton's lack of leadership. Not only is he lazy in his coaching hires, but he refuses to hold anybody in the athletic department -- including coaches -- accountable for their failures and properly recognized for their successes. We have some excellent coaches & people in the WSU Athletic Department, but Crompton & Greybeal are not among them. Nor is the WSU Athletics Promotion Department!!!

Perhaps we need some changes in the coaches although we do have many excellent coaches. All coaches need to be held accountable by the athletic department leaders and receive the proper resources and support to have winning programs. Currently they do not!!!

To get back the winning culture that we once had & were so proud of, we need new leadership in the athletic department that is committed to building a true winning culture rather than being satisfied with mediocrity if they can still go drinking & golfing with their cronies & buddies.

“I trust my O-line, I trust my backs,” Mental said. “We gotta get a yard, at the end of the day. I trust my players to make plays and that’s why I went with Damon Bankston.

Great, I’m glad you trust your players. How about you trust your special teams to kick an 18 yard field goal and your defense to get a stop against a backup QB that is 6-14 with an interception??

Bingo! As the coach, it’s up to you to make the decisions to let your team succeed. The defense has always been the strength. I’d kick the FG and let the strength of the team win or lose it, Going for it shows you don’t trust special teams…especially the kicker. There is a past not to trust the kicker, but I think an 18 FG is a gimme even for Thompson. That was a game gifted to Lamar because of coaching decisions. The red zone calls were pretty easy to expect and defend.

I think next week’s game is probably the only chance at a road win…possibly NAU might…but doubt it.

Mental owns up to his mistakes in postgame sometimes, but they don’t really get fixed.
