Weber State @ San Diego State Aug 31

I don’t know much about SDSU but it sounds like they have some question marks on the O-line and their QB is coming off a mediocre season (51% completion, 137 ypg). They’re also switching to a spread offense. Hopefully our depth and talent on the D-line can shut down their run game.

I just worry about the offense still. Schramm had some really rough stretches last year. Really hoping to see real improvement from Constantine now that he’s 100% and has a year under his belt. The passing game has to threaten the SDSU defense for us to have a chance. Shaheed/Davis will need to flip the field with some big returns as well.

Haven’t seen any betting lines yet. I’d be curious to see how much SDSU will be favored by.

Vegas probably won't have this game on the board but I've seen an offshore line of SDSU -7.5.

Rocky Long teams have traditionally been run heavy, including last season's Aztec team, but with the switch to the spread it will interesting to see if they throw the ball more. But they have two very solid RBs returning so I'm still expecting a lot of rushing attempts.

On defense Long still uses that 3-3-5 that's meant to confuse an offense if it's not well prepared for it.

I really think Weber's strong, deep D Line will be huge in this one. Stuff the run and put pressure on a QB who hasn't thrown the ball a lot.

I'd expect a heavy dose of Josh Davis and Kevin Smith on offense.

Rocky Long's biggest concerns right now seem to be defensive depth and punt returning.

“We’re OK with our first group on defense,” he said. “After our first group, oh, my gosh. It’s unbelievable. We’re putting seven or eight guys out there that have never played, and most of them haven’t been with us except for the past two or three weeks. ... Our second-team defense, you have no idea what you’re going to get from them.”

“In the last two days we’ve dropped more punts than I’ve ever seen,” Long said. “And it’s not just one guy dropping them. It’s a whole bunch of guys dropping them. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”

Vegas now showing a 7.5 point spread as well. Also a 36.5 point over/under. That's a low o/u. Must be expecting a defensive battle with lots of rushing. Basically predicting a 21-14 Aztec win.

I think it will be a close game. But I will take the over.

Weber 23 SDSU 17

Special teams with the win. 3 field goals and at least one long return to flip the field. Weber's D will stop the run early and be susceptible at times in the passing game. Offense will grind this out 150 yards rushing and 150 yards passing. Gotta win the turnover battle.

“They’re an explosive team that can score a whole lot of points,” SDSU head coach Rocky Long said.

 Not sure I would describe Weber as an explosive team. 28 points a game isn't exactly "a whole lot of points."

Take anything Rocky says with a grain of salt. He is king of coach speak. Any perceived weakness in his team he is overly critical of and he is overly positive about his opponents.

Glad to see Jenks back and healthy. Frankly wasn’t sure if we’d see him this season after that gruesome injury.

(But god help me if Schramm throws him in the game to run some drive-ending momentum-killing gimmick play).

Heading to San Diego in the morning. Hope to see a decent crowd wearing purple. Anyone going to the Weber State Alumni pre-game at Dave and Busters?

I'd expect the Weber fan turnout to be the best for a road game this season. Several So Cal kids on the team who will have family and friends there. Heard Shaheed say he's expecting like 60 of his family and friends. Also will be a decent amount traveling from UT due to the location and holiday weekend, and probably some local alumni. Still, there will probably be 40,000+ at the game so Weber fans will look small in numbers. Let's hope we have plenty of reason to make a lot of noise.

Half my party won't get into town until a couple hours before kickoff so we won't be making the pre-game party. Have a safe trip.

Anyone know how the facebook stream works? I have a wedding reception to attend tonight and wondering if I can start the game stream late, but from the beginning? Or, will it start from the "live" streaming point?
