Weber State vs McNeese

This will be a tough game. Wildcats should be ready to go at home. Last non-conference game to tuneup for conference play (last 7 games) which starts out pretty tough with road games at Montana and Sac State in 3 weeks. Red zone improvement is a must if the Wildcats are to pick up wins on the road in the Big Sky.

Team was flat out of the gates. Receivers dropping too many passes. Field goal kicking still sucks. I’m not seeing fixes that Mental promised.

What is going for two? Try to go in tied. That is a stupid coaching call and make come back to bite them. Four points off the board due to kicking game or lack of trust in kicking game.

Mental’s offense has 15 points in 6 quarters against good teams….yikes!

Another loss totally on Mental for going for two when he didn’t need to. If the Wildcats finish with a losing record, they need to fire Mental and move on. The team is undisciplined and talks way too much trash. They never start well. Kicking game sucks. It never gets better.

Doubt Crompton will fire Mental, so sure he gets a third year that will further plunge the Wildcats Football Program.

Mental needs to go after this season. Tonight he cost his team again with a horrible two point conversion decision and put us 1 point down. I am also very tired of him rotating offensive lineman each series it seems like he wants to give everybody a chance to play instead of playing his best players he is a terrible head coach.

The fall from the Jay Hill era was swift. I kind of knew it was coming with the amount of talent that has transferred out the past two years but it doesn’t make it any less painful to watch. We run a high school offense and the defense and special teams have fallen off significantly without Jay. I have no reason to believe we’ll move on from Mental after this year either.

Hello mediocrity.

I wish we could get Bovee back as athletic director he might move on from Mental and get a good coach. I think Bovee actually cares about winning and losing and cares about the sports programs instead of Cropmton who just seems to be skating by without doing the job

Barely a somewhat! Sadly I moved on from Weber bball about 4 years ago. I never, ever thought I'd say those words. That's after being a fan since 1965 when I was 10. I've been a big supporter of the football program and still attend but also they kind of lost me with ANOTHER in house hiring of Mental. Our athletic program is run like a Jr College. We have become an also ran in bball and it only took 1 year and a few games to get there in football. I'll still go to the fb games but I think we may never get back to the Hill years. Ever! It's sad to see attendance at bball games at such a low number. But that seems to be the case all over the country with a few exceptions. I'll pay attention, but it will be from a distance. If they start taking their program seriously then I will too.

One more comment. I think the responses to this fan forum is a pretty good indication of the interest in Weber athletics. If you go over to Montana and MSU site its a different story. Now granted they don't have the Jazz, UHC, the U, BYU or USU in the neighborhood. I'm hopeful things turn around.

I don't have a dog in this fight, just wondering why going for two and not making it really matters? What good would 1 more point make in the final score? Just askin
I think we are all referring to the first two-point conversation attempt that failed that left the score 6-7 at halftime. It ended up making the second two-point attempt necessary that also failed. If the regular PATs were taken, game would have been tied 28-28 on final drive, which changes the complexion of the game entirely.

Of course the kicker had missed a chip shot FG earlier before first two-point was attempted, but if you can’t trust a kicker to make a PAT, you have big problems that can be tied back to poor coaching.

Basically poor coaching and lack of trust in kicking has cost the Wildcats two games that should have been wins.

Question: How exciting is Weber State Athletics for you?

1 : Not at all
2: Somewhat
3: Neutral
4: Excited
5: Very Excited
I would say it has dropped to somewhat. I think the lack of expectation from AD has lowered my excitement. I honestly expect Duft and Mental will get extensions if they finish above .500 in their last contract years.

Yes, Mental needs to go, but Mental is only a small part of the problem with Weber State football. The problem is in the culture of the WSU athletic department. Back in the days of Dick Motta, Phil Johnson, Neil McCarthy & Ron Abegglen Weber State would never accept losing. Jay Hill could not accept losing [I believe that attitude of accepting mediocrity was one factor in Jay Hill leaving -- it wasn't just the money], but the culture of the athletic department under the pathetic leadership [more accurately lack thereof] from Tim Crompton who not only accepts mediocrity but seems to believe that if we just achieve at a level of being mediocre it's a success. That mentality has got to go, and has got to go now!!!

This will be the first year since probably 2015 I won’t watch every game. If I missed a game in past years, I’d watch the replay. Even when we lost, I was proud of the brand of football we played. The QB struggles were frustrating, but we played smart, physical, exciting football and developed talent all over the field. Now we’re getting pushed around by Southland teams, dropping passes left and right, showboating into the end zone, and making silly coaching decisions. Our best players transfer out at the first opportunity.

Having a down year or two is one thing, but this ship isn’t getting turned around until big changes are made.

If you make both kicks the game is tied at 28. Who knows what happens from there but at least you give yourself a chance. And I personally don't believe this team is good enough on offense to give away any points. Losing two games by 3 combined points tells me you should take em all even if it's 1.
