@ Weber, Thursday

Shucks. I like the way that we fought back and took the lead.

Let's get the ISU game taken care of. I'll take .500 on this road trip.

Frustrating loss. Not the best effort. Free throws again hurt us. JD played awful. His line was 2-9 from the field including 1-7 from 3 point land. He missed a front end of a 1 plus 1 free throw situation and only had 2 assists. He is very inconsistent. He really needs to produce if he wants the respect he expects from all the minutes he gets. If we continue to get play like that out of the point, this will be a very forgettable season.

Everybody played okay basketball with a few major guys underperforming a little bit. From the box score and recaps I got the feeling that Weber was just the better team. Any thoughts?

I missed most of the first half, but here are some thoughts...

I don't think that WSU was the better team. Odgen is a tough place for PSU to win at, so I usually expect a loss when we go there. Free thows weren't too bad. We're a poor shooting team from the line, so 70% and I'm happy. We were just under, so I don't feel too bad about it. The late misses hurt, but again, we're a poor FT shooting team, so it's expected. I really like how the team came back from being down double digits. That's a good sign. Thomas played really well with the exception of that missed dunk, but it sounds like there was quite a bit of contact on that play.

Here are some questions that I had:

- PSU pressed late in the 2nd half. We rarely put on a full press, but why haven't we seen that versus some of the lower non-conference schools that we've played. Why not press in non-conference games so that we're used to it when we really need it. WSU made swiss cheese of our press and it helped them win the game.

- JD struggled. He did his a big three late, but he was 0'fer from beyond the arch prior to that. Why 3 minutes for Mickey? I'm not a coach, but if WSU is going to force you to shoot over their zone, I'm pretty sure that I want a 55% three point shoot taking some shots. Sure, Polis doesn't run the offense as smooth as JD, but we all know what Mickey can do against teams that go by 'WSU' ;-)

- Scotty plays 20 minutes. Hmmm. Thomas played really well, so this may be why Scott never really went back into the game in the 2nd half, but I'm of the thought that when Scott plays 25 minutes or more, good things happen.

WSU just hit a couple more shots in the 2nd half, and the FT difference was huge indicating that either a) PSU wasn't trying to get to the basket, b) some home town cooking by the refs, or c) both.

Did anyone else find it odd that the final score was 73-68 which was also our football score which was the NCAA Div I record when it happended?

I was disappointed in last night's result. Yes, PSU gets credit for fighting back to take the lead at 62-61 with a couple of minutes to go, but they had at least 4 or 5 chances to really take control of the game right after that only to give the momentum right back to WSU. You've got to start closing those games out.

If one or two players were bad at free throws, I'd just blame those players. With the entire team bad at them, it comes down to coaching and stressing what is important.

And what I know of Morrison, is that he hates the role he has been relegated to. He wants to be the star player and go-to guy he can be, its the coaching that is putting him on the bench and not giving him opportunities. Once he gets on a roll, he gets pulled for Thomas. How is that supposed to give confidence and aspire you to produce? And what I know of Morrison does not come from interviews and the general media, but a much more personal source.

You're absolutely correct, DJViking. You're information and analysis is absolutely spot on. Scott is beat up and worn out from the treatment he gets from Bone. If anyone really wants to know what Bone is like to play for, and what the players think of him, they can just ask Paul Hafford, Ryan Sommer, EJ, Sean Smith, or Josh Neeley. Obviously this year's players can't say anything, but I suspect you'll get a lot more honesty from these players now.
