I've been reading articles about the Pokes and spending some time on their forum gathering as much information as I can on them. Personally, I think the only film from last year that our team can use would be film highlighting their defense, the offense is completely different.
Their defense is good, but not great. Weber went head to head with great defenses last year. Utah, and Yes, I'm going to throw them a freakin bone, Montana (for State, I do think, for FCS, that they have one of the best defenses and will have one again this year, which makes them so dangerous). Wyoming fans routinely forget that Weber played effectively against Utah last year, and that our offense is perhaps, depending on the chemistry of the offensive line, is better this year (veteran leadership and more depth). Also, and perhaps, more important, is that Weber's defense is better. No, I wouldn't say on the same caliber as top FBS programs, but one that could definitely compete in the WAC, and for suure in the worthless Sun Belt (does anyone know how the hell this conference is FBS).
As for Wyoming...I think that they have a far better coaching staff than they did; that might be my grizzbias talking Joe is worthless, I think Christensen is going to do some great things for the Cowboys. However, creating a spread offense in one season with limited or callow talent will be very difficult. Yeah, Benjamine (QB) is looking good, but it isn't a good thing for the Pokes, if an inexperienced QB can run and throw over a defense that is supposedly sooo great. Weber runs a modified spread offense, which is experienced, talented, deep, and good. Wyoming's offense, under Christensen is going to be good, but if they are already moving the ball easily agaisnt their stellar D, either the OC is a wizard, or the D isn't very effective, and is being over-rated. Either way, Wyoming is an FBS and is suppose to beat the Wildcats.
According to the great pronosticators of football, all FBS squads are so much better than any FCS team. Isn't that the same argument for BCS conferences over non-BCS conferences...Yeah tell that to Utah, Boise State, or App State. I think We are all going to start seeing more and more FCS wins against FBS schools. In my opinion there should be a Big Sky vs. Sun Belt challenge...
I've never been very orthodox with my football predictions. I don't care what is SUPPOSE to happen. I just want to see the Wildcats win. Put the naysayers in their place, and highlight a great Wildcat squad. A Weber win will help fill our stands, and finally cement some respect for this Cats team.
