Week 2: Hornets at Cal

Yeah the Safron injury was the "Possible Bad News"...it's a shoulder injury that could take 3/4 weeks to heal fully. I think he toughed through it in practice and gave signs to the coaches that he could go. Don't think he could injure it more so they went with him.

From my seats...which were about the 10-15 yard line of the Sac State side...you could tell he was struggling early with velocity and accuracy...(btw the 1 handed catch the CAL kid made in the corner of EZ was pretty awesome)

I expect Safron to continue to start for the next couple games, but if it gets out of hand either way, or he struggles then Kniffen and McDade will clean up.

Well that’s not good. IMO the coaches should have sat him then…and consider sitting him for Weber and definitely hold him out for Menlo.

Not sure how you make Heath the ST MVP. Bad hang time all day. Last couple were good. Had some 35 yard line drives. Not going to be good for any coverage team.

Heath definitely hit a few low balls which didn't help the return stats (or field position) at all. But among the nine punts were five over 4 seconds including: 4.71=fumbled by CAL, 4.65=fair catch, 4.32, 4.40=down at the 9, and 4.15=down at the 10. He seemed to settle down as the game went on and finished with three excellent punts.

I can see that, my point is more coverage units are not just based on tackling or not getting down fast enough. Punter has a lot to do with it. This was the second week in a row we had a turnover on special teams so that is a bright spot. Almost had 2. I expect this game to be a good one vs. Weber State

Hey all, hope those that attended had a great time, score notwithstanding. I'm a fan of your qb, as he managed to move the ball down the field against our D. Of course it's always hard to get into a rhythm and run your offense when you're already down a ton of points. That was us every single game last year. Good luck the rest of the season.
