Week 3 - #11/11 Sac State vs #23 Nicholls State

Best defensive effort in a long time. Offense was humming until Fresques started running every play up the box and it was stuffed for two quarters, gotta be more creative. Couple of missed catches that would have resonated well. Keep Conklin the starter, use Bennett like OHara and switch up the playcalling. O was too predictable 3/4th Qtr. Good attendance 12,494 for a Southland Conf team.
Agree… Conklin Starts and if needed mix in some K. Bennett in red zone when wanting to give Conklin a breather or any play that is needing that speed to the corner.
The OC play calling was much better but still went flat on several drives resulting in less that TD’s. The OC starts getting repetitive and the D starts adjusting to those earlier successful plays.

I did like the “few roll out plays” that were called in first half, Conklin can still throw very well even while in motion (sidearm).

He’s impressive.

Agreed with the comments on the defensive performance. The defensive front has matched the physicality of every team this year, last night was no exception.

Pertaining to the 2nd half lull on the offensive side, it was clear that Nicholls wasn't going to get things going on their offensive side so the play calling was on conservative side. In the 2nd half, a run play was called on 10 of 13 first down plays as it should have been given our lead. I think NSU just keyed in on that and their talented linebackers were looking for the run on those 1st down plays.

Overall the play calling was well balanced with 32 pass vs 34 rush on the game. Plenty of reps for everyone as Conklin got some good experience against a tough defense under his belt.

After this weekend's win, we are #10 in the Massey Ratings, with the only remaining loss expected to be Montana State... 9-3 (7-1) is a seed IMO.
Our only other big game is F UCD that is always dangerous. I have t watched them yet this season so no idea. But their RB was a problem last couple seasons. 9-3 and at worst 8-4 🙏🏻 playoff bound.
