WEEK 3--SAC STATE

Sorry spoke to soon, One of the coaches are going to have to explain to Clarke the 1# rule of a QB is ball security especially in the redzone, but we are talking about Clarke aren't we. With the interception still Clarkes best half of his career. Good Game for the Wildcats to pad their stat sheets. Weber wins big in the second half. Dang and I gave up going and watching YBU against UCLA for this...

Well Cat fans the one and only Jadrian Clark is at it again!! Looking to take the lead at the half he gets the rush put on and promptly finds a defensive player to throw the ball to. Why Jay Hill can't figure out what a QB is supposed to look like is a HUGE mystery to me!! For a man who has been a coach this long you'd think he could spot obvious garbage at that position by now!! How and why Clark received and still has a scholarship is beyond me!! I can honestly say no matter who argues with me he is absolutely the worst QB I've seen here at Weber and I'm finding it hard to believe he isn't the worst in the FCS!! He better finish his degree because the closest he'll get to the NFL is on the couch watching Sunday ticket.

Thank you Denby for keeping the dropped pass streak going, We almost went a game without a drop from the WR's not sure if you should call #6 drew a drop, a fumble or just stupid!
Also why is Denby as the punt return guy running away from the punt or just plain falling down.

Sac St. strategy on defense is pretty smart. They are putting 8 in the box selling out on the run and telling WSU we just don't believe you can throw and catch and stay in the game, not bad, maybe the head coach remembers Clarke better than we do?

Sac State continues to just dare WSU to pass. Where is Fesi the offense coordinator, make an adjustment!!!
Sac State hasn't stop the pass all game and is just selling out on the RUN.

FYI...congrats to NDSU for beating Iowa....amazing it can be done by the FCS

WSU has to win, Don't tell me the football mastermind Jodi Sears is going to out coach our genius coaching staff.....we can't have this happen....

SACK STATE WRAP

Positives:
Weber State Wins
Jodi Sears Loses-Yeah! how did he get another Job, he openly admits he doesn't recruit from Utah?
Offensive Line brilliant as always
Weber State Wins
Jodi Sears Loses
Defense literally pitches a shut out
Only two drop passes this game by the receivers, best performance in 3 years
Thank goodness the 1st string QB of SACK STATE got knocked out in the middle of the second quarter and played the remainder of the game with their backup QB, otherwise we may of had a different outcome.
Defensive Line came to Play
It Took three games and going against a clueless 2nd string QB but the Wildcats finally started Blitzing, a real novelty to see at a WSU game.
Good news that have an In and Out burger at the Campus of UC Davis next week.
Another healthy outing for the O-line no one got injured, Our first string is solid on the line but after the starters it falls off fast.

Negatives:
Weber State struggles against a horrible team
Offense was extremely one dimensional and Sack State knew it especially in the RED ZONE
21 DB called off sides, I have never seen a DB called off sides ever,,, get your head out
35 the slowest return man in the country is still our return guy, no one else can do kick off returns,
6 # Drew almost lost the game because he fumbled the ball on the Goal line with no one touching him
We may never see Cheeseburger Cantrell this season at QB-We Want Cheeseburger
Fesi can't figure out how to make any adjustments to SACK STATEs over playing the run between the tackles
89 Ross not getting a chance to play, he is a player at receiver, at least he could block done field which is more than our current receivers do. I didn't realize that receivers don't have to block!
THE MUFF on the 9 yard line, what a killer
3# Denby is back on Punt returns, he either runs away or falls down on the ground or fair catches the same as Last year. Weber lost some major field position because Denby was afraid to field the ball. SACK STATE punter sucked and had to punt 13 times....Thats 13 times with no return yardage.
WSU Continues to run a 5 receiver set with 2 running backs and 2 tight ends? Nice player selection and great way to spread the defense-fesi you are such a Homer, get your head out
Another road game coming up, 3 road games out of your first 4 games, who agrees to these schedules. Looking forward to seeing our 21 alumni in Davis.

WSU played a door mat of a team with a 2nd QB and Coached by Sears, If WSU doesn't make some serious progress and make some player and coaching changes they win 4 Games this year and no more.

Good news is WSU can beat a door mat, WSU plays DAVIS next week which is another door mat so I like our chances on the road, hopefully we can execute better next week. N't o need to make any post this week because UC Davis isn't worth it even though they have a very nice bowl stadium.

3 solid wins by BSC teams: Eastern Washington beats No. Iowa 34-30; Cal Poly over So. Dakota St 38-31 & North Dakota beats So. Dakota (Dbl OT!!) 47-44. The highlight results for week 3. :thumb:

NCAA -- in Riverdale, less than 5 mins from campus there is an In an Out. Just thought I'd let you know, since that seems to be a highlight for you to visiting Davis.

Last nights game? Well, and I never thought I'd say this, but Jadrian Clark should be consider, or be, the player of the week. What a game by the senior play caller. On defense, Drew Snowden got killed. He was always a step behind Heine. I think his man ended up with almost 100 yards. He is a senior. Needs to step up his game.

My notes:

Clark probably played his best game in his career. Which meant he threw a pick in the red zone, made some really good throws, made some bad throws, and ran the ball well. His running game is his best asset.

Play calling was good at times and abysmal at other times. We should have pounded the ball a bit more in my opinion. I am tired of seeing the jet sweep, even if it was relatively successful. QB running game needs to be a part of our gameplan instead of the WR running game, see above.

Special teams and mental errors almost lost the game for us against a very bad team. We seem lost on special teams with fair catches inside the 10 yard line and poor returns on other kicks.

The team and the crowd seemed very uninspired until the final drive. No real emotion.

Clark Played great despite the 2nd qtr pick. Worthy of BSC player of the week honors

Offensive line played great

Defense played great

Bad mistakes made this game a 14-7 game when in reality it could have been a 31-0 game in our favor.

1. A mistake on a punt return put the defense in a horrible situation.

2. Yet another missed field goal.

3. There is no need to dive into the end zone, just run in and then drop the ball after it is a legal touchdown.

4. An interception right before the half left more possible points off the board.

In all accounts Weber played well, we just had some bad mistakes that we need to fix big time before our schedule starts getting harder…like this next weekend @ Davis.

Sac has a good defense and it showed, thier problem is they have no offense to speak of. If they had an offense they could be pretty decent. I like the mini rivalry that has recently grown between Weber and Sacramento

Here is what I am seeing, three games into the season.

Clark has improved a lot over last year. He is making far fewer bad throws. Our receivers are not dropping as many passes. However, our running game is not as good as we have had the past few years. Part of that is we have some young backs who want to run east and west. That needs to change.

On D, our secondary makes too many coverage errors. If Sac had a QB who could hit anything, it could have been a long night for us. Also, our defensive end play is questionable. They are allowing themselves to get sealed off on sweep plays. They have to do a better job of forcing the runners back into the tackles. The outside linebackers must also take a little responsibility. They've got to step up and fill the gaps a bit quicker.
The center of our defense is where we are the strongest. :coffee:

What are you talking about that the "secondary makes too many coverage errors". WSU has been playing man press coverage on the corners for the past two years? Hard to have a coverage error when you are playing face up man press the whole game. The fact that they get beat is because they physically just plain got burned lets not confuse it with "coverage errors"!

On several occasions Sac would run crossing patterns on the outside and our two defenders would defend one guy and let the other one go open. Also, when a corner is up close for bump and run coverage, there is supposed to be help behind from a safety, help has not been there when it was supposed to be. If it wasn't going to be there, then they shouldn't have been in bump and run. In some coverage patterns the CBs should be taking an inside position, some outside, and some straight up. It may have been a coaches call, but it looked to me like we were often picking the wrong type of coverage for the receiver being guarded. If they were getting burned it wasn't their athleticism. There were many times in this game that Sac receivers were wide open, but the QB couldn't hit them. I feel that all of these issues are correctable and will be. It's an issue of the LBs, CBs and safeties always being on the same page. The D coaches may need a little better scouting and planning. All of these things can and will be fixed.

The offense moved the ball well, and the play calling seemed good to me. We just need to clean up a few things and make fewer mental errors. There will never be a perfect game, but we can sure stop making some of the most obvious mistakes. :coffee:

Hahaha yup, In and Out has been in Utah for what... 10 years now?...

Now for the game... Glad to see some giving credit where credit is due. Clark played great. Now I know that Sac State has a pretty poor pass defense but let's just take a look at some of Jadrain Clark's stats from Saturday's game:

380 yards passing. Yes not a typo. 380.
10.9 yards per completion ave
Passer rating of 166.3
71 yards rushing
451 total yards of offense
25 completions/35 attempts (71% completion percentage)
1 TD (really 2, but ding-dong receiver decided to dive for some unknown reason... really screwed the pooch on that one).
1 Interception

By any measure, those are great stats. 380 yards passing. That's amazing. Now I know many on the board seem to think Clark can do no right, but you've got to admit he played a hell of a game. Not to mention on that fourth quarter drive, he converted the 4th down, and scored the touchdown.

As I watched the game, there was a moment in the 2nd quarter that struck me just how much he has improved. Clark took the snap, and stepped into the pocket (nice work OL). From there I watched as he went through 1,2,3,4 reads... none open, as the pocket started to collapse he rolled right, but kept looking down field. He threw on the run and made a completion for about 20 yards. He showed the poise in that moment to trust his blockers and progress through his reads, not force something that wasn't there, was mobile when he had to be, and made a great throw on the run to a 5th option. Wow. Clark may not be Tom Brady, but that was pretty impressive. He made good throws all night (with a few poor ones... like any qb has). He didn't let that interception get him down. He was without a doubt the mvp of the game.

Now I know what the haters are going to say... If he played so damn good, then why'd we only put up 14 point? Well, we missed a field goal, fumbled a touchdown, and turned it over in the red zone... Tighten up a couple things and we should've had 31 points total. And Sac State started their scoring drive on our 9 yard line after the stupid punt helmet bounce... That game could've easily been 31-0. No excuses, there are things that Weber needs to tighten up, but we were clearly the better team.

Point is, team played well enough to win, which is all that matters, and Clark played great. I was impressed with him, and proud that he has shown improvement. The real test will be when we play some tougher Big Sky teams.
Good to see a decent turn out for the game as well. Particularly the students. Go WildCats!!!
