Week 3 - South Dakota

Wow the defense came to play today. Keep it up! Their QB is already looking a bit tentative after some big hits.

Come on, Weber! Playing decent with all the momentum and then defence relaxes and gets multiple stupid penalties. Can't let up! And what '02 said!

Good win! I was expecting a very close game tonight.

First things first, I think the Coyotes laid an egg tonight. Lots of dumb penalties on their side. They made 0 big plays and struggled to pick up our blitzes.

On to the good stuff... I think we have a QB. Constantine gained confidence as the game went along. His knee doesn’t look 100% when he scrambles - it looks like he’s dragging it along - but he looks very comfortable and decisive in the pocket. He has shown the ability to anticipate throws and step into it with some power. I think he will be our QB for a long time.

Josh Davis is looking like a young Trevyn Smith out there. Extremely impressive performances the past two weeks as a freshman. It was also good to see David Jones out there again. He has a level of explosiveness that the offense needs.

The receivers still are struggling a bit but coming along well. I was glad to see Denby back out there again. We can really use a veteran out there. Shaheed struggled early but made some nice plays. The receivers aren’t playing well enough yet but I see the potential in the group.

I figured we could shut down the run game but I didn’t expect this level of dominance. Rodriguez, Williams, Sitake, and Palauni are all studs. They controlled the game from the first snap. Credit to USD’s QB for sticking in there after some serious hits early in the game.

This team is very strong on both lines along with a number of playmakers (Shaheed, Davis, Denby, Garrett, Jones, Stice, Toia). If Constantine can continue to develop then we might be looking at a 3rd straight year in the playoffs. Go Cats!

Very similar to last year. Getting better each and every week. Just keep doing that and we will be just fine at the end of the season. We were all worried about the D and they stepped up nicely. Our O is slowly getting better. The O line was much improved. I'm encouraged. :coffee:

The Yote's D line was solid for most of the game. They were not giving up much. We had to earn everything we got.

Props to the D, I saw improvement with the secondary even though they've still got a ways to go to compete at last year's level. Too bad they allowed the 'Yotes the last second TD, it would have been a well deserved accomplishment to keep them out of the end zone. They did a great job against a capable offense, especially considering how much time their own offense kept them on the field.

I am digging JDavis but the offense has got to start getting the into the end zone! It does seem like they were making baby steps improvements but they have a long way to go and hopefully sooner rather than later. -1.5 dogs and win by 17, we'll take it and it was great to see this team on the field again in person.

Great temperature, the wind wasn't too much of a factor after the 1st Q, and the sunset was disappointing. Very enjoyable evening none the less.

It was mostly 2s and 3s on D for that last drive. However, that shouldn't matter, they still needed to get the job done. They seemed to lose focus.

Congrats on the win it was well deserved. Your defensive front was in beast mode last night for sure. I’m not sure where our team was but obviously missed the charter to Ogden.

My observations are your D will keep you in every game in the Big Sky even when your O is lacking.

Lastly, thanks for being great hosts. By far the most respectful fan base we have been around in all my years of traveling with our team. Fun atmosphere and nice people. I sure wished we could’ve tested you more than we did....oh well, time to move on.

In closing your coach is outstanding and really a good person. Keep his wife in your prayers as she is now showing signs of winning the battle of cancer. You’re very fortunate to have them.

Thanks for stopping by yoteforever. I'm glad you enjoyed your time here and hope your trip home was safe.

The game turned out differently than I thought it would. I predicted a loss for the Cats and the team showed me up. Our offense still needs some work. But the Yote defense deserves a lot of the credit. They played very well in the RZ.

We Weber fans will never forget what Coyote Nation did for us two years ago. And hopefully in the near future we can meet again on the gridiron. Good luck on the rest of your season.

My .02

Offense - B
Noticeable progress, a few confused plays that need sharpening. Still too many dropped balls and missed connections in the passing game. Should have had a long touchdown that was overthrown by a few yards. Nice to see Denby make a catch in the end zone. I think Constantine is the right QB and should only get better. He just needs reps. Cooley is going to be a stud. Josh Davis put in a solid performance as well. 3rd down conversions and red zone performance were a little concerning. Most importantly, we had good ball security.

Defense - A
Our front 7 destroyed the line of scrimmage. 8 sacks, tons of pressure, and three turnovers. Defensive backs were pretty solid as well. Loved the hit by Harrison to break up long pass down the middle. Very few missed tackles in the open field.

Special Teams - B
Great returns by Josh, but a few catches made me panicky. Punt game was interesting? Lloyd is an escape artist, but we almost had two big negative plays. Tuttle was 4 for 5 on FG. Not sure what happened on the miss, One ref called it good. From my seat it looked good, but the angle is hard to tell.

Fun game to watch. As we were leaving we witnessed the team giving the fans high fives and thanking them for coming to the game and supporting the team. Very classy. Made me proud to be a Wildcat.

O has improved every week, but like has been said, need to do much better on 3rd downs and in the red zone. Not turning the ball over has been huge though.

WRs played much better in the 2nd half. Agreed on Cooley, he's going to be really good.

Josh Davis is Trevyn Smith 2.0. Just like Smith, he's very shifty and great at finding the holes. If he can stay healthy he could break all of Smith's records. He's that good. But staying healthy is my concern. He touches the ball a lot between running, receiving, and returning punts, and takes a lot of hits.

D has also improved every week which should scare every opponent left. The front seven absolutely dominated. Eight sacks, several QB hurries, and two takeaways from that group. Stice gets Conference POW honors. And the DBs looked much better.

Biggest concern for me following this game was the number of players that left with injuries.

Agreed on Josh Davis staying healthy. he looked gimpy by the end of the game.

As far as Injuries, I saw Parker Preator leave and I don't think he returned. I don't believe Trey Hoskins played at all. Who else was injured?

The Wildcat Defense definitely showed up on Saturday. The USD QB spent the night running for his life. I'd wager that over 75% of the plays he ended up on the grass somehow. Gotta give him some kudos though. He stuck with it and kept trying. Regardless, that D continues to get better and better. I excited to see how much better they can get. There are issues still with the defense that can be ironed out, but imagine how good it can be when those things are taken care of.

The offense isn't quite as good, but having Constantine in as the starting QB will definitely help. It is hard to progress when you don't really know who the starter is. Now that he has the starting gig, I expect our offense to solidify and improve. As the game went on, it seemed like he was getting better and more confident. Constantine isn't the most polished guy, at the moment, and a lingering injury isn't helping him, but the longer he plays and the more time he has to heal; my bet is on him becoming a really good QB for the Cats. But, only time will tell.

Josh Davis being like Trevyn Smith? Sure, however, Smith seemed like he was 20-30lbs more than him. Best thing to keep him from being injured is adding a few more lbs. But, he has looked great the past two weeks. What a dangerous weapon. Love watching his game.

Heckard was helped off the field near the end of the game. Hopefully it wasn't as bad as it appeared to me during the game. Just seemed like a bunch of guys getting up slowly or being helped off the field.
