Week 3 - South Dakota

This is just my educated guess, but the red shirt rules changed and players can now play in four games and still get to count it as a red shirt year. That may be what is happening with Kris Jackson and some other freshmen as well. If the primary back is doing well why burn a game that you may wish you had in your pocket later.

We may see this same thing in basketball. I just don't know how many games they can play in for BB. I really like this new rule.

In closing, the one thing that always bothers me about our team is playing outside. We play in a Dome, and we aren’t used to all the challenges playing outside presents. If there’s wind, that’s an issue we don’t deal woth a lot. If it’s a nice day, and wind is at a minimum, then I throw those concerns out the window. I’m hoping it doesn’t come down to special teams, I don’t like our odds in that situation.

Thanks for the post.

Forecast is for a beautiful evening in Ogden on Saturday. Should be in the 80's and 70's for most of the game with no precip, little wind, and some clouds. Will get a little cool by the end of the game. Hoping for that normal beautiful sunset we usually get to view from the stadium. Best views in all of college football is what I always say.

If it comes down to special teams I like Weber's chances. We are very solid there.

I don't believe the weather (specifically wind) would be a deciding factor in this game-- I don't believe it would be much of a disadvantage for SD or advantage for WSU-- however, it's looking like Saturday could end up being the windiest day of the previous 7-10 days. Both teams very well could end up dealing with some windy conditions.

Watching Weber's first two games and observing what SD has done left me with little confidence for this game. Simply put, I think Weber's chances depend on their ability to play much better in the secondary and show some successful balance in their own passing game. Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst.

Does Brett really still believe that there were only 6k at that playoff game? Get over the fake numbers Brett!! There is a reason I no longer subscribe to that paper.

The Standard mostly regurgitates press releases from the athletic department. I did notice that Brett saw that Shamon Willis was no longer on the roster after being missing from the roster for three weeks now. No reasons why he left the team. Also no mention of the 2 deep changes at TE or WR. Or why Denby isn't playing. The Standard is also not my newspaper.

I don't understand why Brett would even bring up the numbers from last Fall. I guess he is still a bit sore over the fan response to his article. LET IT GO Brett, you'll be a far happier person. You'll discover that the air smells better and the suns rays shine brighter once you do.

As for reporting...well, I think he digs a little more than Garside (any digging would be better than Garside) and writes better. But, I did enjoy the videos produced by Garside. I'll admit it, I do miss Weber State Weekly. Each has his strength. Brett is learning how to be a traditional journalist. He needs to get past the "coach speak" and get the real story. His writing is improving. As for Willis, my guess is that Collins or Heckard got the #2 over him and he left. But that is merely an assumption. I could be completely wrong. No matter, I hope he does well in the future and thank him for his hard work and effort for the Wildcats.

I would like to know about Denby. Why not play a guy who has 3 years of DI experience? The TE change makes sense, especially if the offensive is running the ball more. Latu is a far better blocker than Malone and might turn out to being an okay hands guy too. Would any of us want to get in the way of a 290lb guy running at you? Remember Tyler Downs at Portland State last year? At TE, once Garrett is back at RB, I'd like to see Cameron Hansen play some. He has good speed, understands defenses, in the spring game showed us he has good hands, and is tough. Finally, he has good size and height for a TE. As for the Devon Cooley change, it was only a matter of time. He will be damn good once he figures out the speed of the college game. The more he plays the better he will be. Jackson will get his chances too.

Can someone please help me understand Brett's logic here? The school reports just under 10K for the ISU game, but somehow he claims the school only reports correct numbers, but he is bent on the fact the school would not lie about the playoff game numbers??? Which way is it Brett? Somehow he can judge actual attendance, as he claims the playoff game was the best "actual" attended game all year, when in fact it was the lowest reported, but what do I know?

Maybe someone can explain, I've never understood the benefit of over-inflating basketball attendance (a lot) and apparently underselling football? Anyone who attended that game, even with the most basic of estimating skills knows there was easily 10K in attendance. I get why it happens in basketball even though I don't get the benefit. All individual, family packs (6 tickets) and season tickets sold are counted as attending every game, so attendance is reported as some sort of reflection of tickets sold. That doesn't seem to be the case with football-- why? Furthermore, who gives a flying (insert favorite adjective here) if other schools do the same thing, what benefit is it to have a number that is not close to reflective of the number of people who attended an event? Inflating the number does not change the $$$ taken in from ticket sales, it just makes no sense to my simple mind!

I think we have had under and over reported game attendance for both sports. I don't think it is any sort of diabolical plot to make us scratch our heads. I think that nobody really wants to sit and count bodies in seats. They try to make the best estimates with the information they have on hand. Maybe someone on this forum should develop some sort of head counting technology that will make the estimates a bit closer. Otherwise, just accept that they are making the best estimates they can with the definitions and information they have. :wall:

Had a great trip into Ogden yesterday. Looking forward to a great game. It appears wind will be a factor and in no way does that help the Coyotes. Question for you Cat fans. What do you expect attendance to be tonight? What’s the stadium capacity?

Big game with playoff implocations for both teams

Glad you found something to do in Ogden. Saw some of the Coyote team walking around town last night. Hope they had a late night.

The wind came out of nowhere. Will definitely affect the passing attacks and special teams. The smoke will affect us all.

Stewart Stadium holds about 17,000. Attendance is a bit of a mystery. We averaged 9000 fans last year. I would guess between 9000 - 11000 for the home opener.

Watching NAU and Missouri St on ESPN3. Great quality broadcast. All Valley home games are on ESPN3 I believe. Why can't Big Sky get on with them? Montana schools won't give up rights to broadcast their home games?

Ya, it turns into a real high-skill position if ticket takers at the entrances are outfitted with simple click counters and have to both take or scan a ticket and click the counter +1.

If the wind becomes a factor and both teams have to rely on a run game, I like our chances tonight.

I think they keys to a Weber win are controlling the line of scrimmage and forcing South Dakota to grind it out. We need sure tackling on the edges and no long pass plays.
