Week 5 - SUU - Friday Night Lights!

Looking forward to this one! I'd kinda forgotten how it feels when a team is winning consistently. Makes one a bit excited more excited for the next game.

I predict Weber winning on a last minute FG 20-17. The wet weather will keep the game close and sloppy.

Other question marks, AJ Wilcox didn't make the trip to Greeley. Is he injured? To me, he is our best tackle and he isn't playing. Is he injured? How much longer is Zach Smith out? I like our running game. Wilkes and Garrertt have been doing an admirable job, but why not give the rock some more to Cory Thomson? He is a baller, and why not let Pooler run it some more? He made some nice moves to get into the end zone on Saturday.

Passing defense was getting beat left and right on Saturday. Good thing the cubs of Northern Colorado are so poorly coached, they could have passed on us all afternoon. Lots of mistakes on defense. Our defensive line has got to get more of a push. Love the play of the LBs.

Finally, SPECIAL TEAMS!! Blocking on kicks has been terrible.

All in all, I really feel the team is getting better and better, but still giving up 17 unanswered points was tough to watch. Weber has got to get better on defense. We have speed, but the guys are out of position and not filling their lanes so much.

AJ is out, Alema Key is out, Zach Smith had an infection earlier in the week, but Coach Hill said that he could play vs SUU. Wasn't a definite answer, but I'll take it.

...and BYU's an OC away from being 3-1 but who gives a rat's ass about BYU, the Pukes, or USU? Here's a tip: there are at least 3 local radio stations, 4 local TV news stations, and a handful of local newspapers that will talk ad nauseam about the those schools, to a much lesser degree for USU. Do you really have to bring it here too?

:thumb: AMEN!!

So, who starts at QB on Friday?

I don't quite understand pulling a kids RS just to relegate him back to the end of the bench for the rest of the year.

Also, why pull his RS, when you haven't really tested your other two QBs who are supposedly ahead of him on the depth chart? Yeah, Leckington got some garbage time against NDSU, which he made the most of, but still it wasn't the greatest chance.

Here are the facts, as I see them, it is evident to everyone that Jadrian isn't our best option at QB. The offense has been stagnant and tight. Yes, Weber has won the last two games, but those were supposed to be wins for the Cats. We all had those games penciled in as W's. What was impressive was a true freshman QB comes in to start the half. Leads the Cats on two drives that both end up being TDs. Most importantly, he shows us passing we haven't seen since Green got benched last year.

The problem is that most of us recognized Shaw's abilities this summer. He is destined to be Weber's starter along the road, but a RS was his best option right now, so that he had added time to realize his potential, develop, and to mature some more. Why put him in now, four games into the season without giving either Leckington or Green an option to show their skills. What sets Shaw apart from our other QBs? Is Leckington and Green so unimpressive that they don't merit a chance to lead the offense if Jadrian isn't getting the job done?

I spoke with Jay and Coach Clark about this. http://www.standard.net/Weber-State...in-Shaw-expected-to-be-something-special.html They really like Shaw and want to get him meaningful reps as soon as possible. Clark called Shaw his number two option right now, but said Green and Leckington will be still be used for certain situations. Pulling his RS doesn't make the most sense to me, but the coaching staff feels like giving Shaw real experience is the best thing right now. I'll never know as much about football as those guys, so I'm not going to sit here and say what they're doing is wrong.

Jadrian will be the starter.

Well then I will. Taking off a redshirt almost half way through a season for your QB of the future is a mistake unless you are committing him to be the starter, which they aren't. Time to face reality and admit that Clark isn't getting it done and give someone else a shot. And now that the redshirt is burned, Shaw should be given that opportunity, not just a series or two a game.

Me & a few of my friends would say that OC Coach Clark may know more than we do about football, but his play calling & now QB managing is questionable at least & arguably not smart, if not wrong!! He just adds more fuel to the fire of our doubts as the year goes along. :ohno:

All of you guys griping about the QB situation, have little or no inside information about it. You only know what the coaches plans are via what he has said. You don't know the players plans or thinking. You don't know his parents thinking, You don't know any of the day to day things happening in practice. Give it a rest already. You are making yourselves look foolish. :wtf:

No, all we really know is 1) The QB play (and play calling) has been sub-par, at best. 2) It's a huge waste to burn a red shirt a third the way through the season if there's no reason such as injury or intentions to make a change. I guess the picture might get clearer tonight.

I personally don't understand the QB issue. If it was me, I would have kept the shirt on and had either Leckington or Green give it a whirl. Shaw is good though. Makes sense why they want to get him playing as soon as possible. Shaw has done everything he could to be ready to go to. He graduated early, played with the team in the Spring, and did all he could to be ready for the season.

It's our job on this forum to look between the lines & figure out what's going on...can't get that from "coaches speak".

See you all at the game, it's goin' to be COOL & let's hope a HAPPY feeling after!

It's go time! Finally! It should be a great temperature for the players and it's not looking like any rain of significance so no reason to not open up that playbook Clark! Here's to hoping to see the QB of the future-- you know, the one who is officially on the collegiate clock, the one who looked great for 15 minutes in Northern Colorado. A 3 game win streak would be a great morale boost to players, coaches, and fans alike. GO WEBER!!

So, Clark has plenty of time and guess what? Throws six feet over the head of the receiver in the end zone! Follow that up with boring, predictable play call. Come on! Was it just what I wanted to see when I thought I saw better play call in the 3rd quarter at Greely? Does more of the offense work with a better QB on the field? Well, 1st and 2nd downs coming...better get back to the game and predictable between tackle runs.

Well, apparently Shaw isn't the savior but I don't know if I can keep watching this sh1t offense. My wife is wanting to go at half because of her own observations of the O. They run maybe 5 different plays and pretty much 1 on 1st, 2nd, and 4th. Sorry to be so negative but it's truly pathetic. THIS is why good student and overall attendance doesn't improve-- no one wants to watch an anemic offense game after game, year after year. I'm so bummed about this display and worry about Mizzoula and the rest of the good BSC teams. :ohno:

Whoever's in charge of the sound system needs to be fired. Wait Weber don't fire anyone, regardless of how incompetent they are.

The best play of the night goes to my boy catching a ball during a timeout. He wanted to run it all the way back and spike it just to give the Weber faithful something to cheer about but didn't want to delay anything and stopped haha. Oh well, $50 certificate and t-shirt for our poor, starving student.
