Week 8 - @ Northern Arizona

It is a very real possibility that WSU finishes at (7-4) with a win at NAU. Look, UC-Davis got throttled by Northern Colorado by 20+ points, a team that we throttled. Going into this week, UC-Davis is (1-6), at home we win this game. ISU going into this week is (2-4) with one of those wins against a DII school. EWU is still a toss up to me. Yes, they should win, but thats why you play the game. NAU is really what stands in our way of the playoffs. I am not taking about first rounds byes, I am talking about just getting in. NAU did beat MSU, but lost to a crappy UC-Davis team. Parity yes. I still believe that with a (7-4) record we get in, If SUU losses only one game, that puts them at only 7 wins, if they lose two more games, they finish with only 6 FCS wins. They still have to play PSU and MSU.

This site is a bracketology for the playoffs. Right now with 4 BSC teams in.

I'm not calling the EWU game a toss up. That's a loss. With Davis and ISU probable wins, any playoff hopes hinge on this weekend's game, IMO. Even at 7-4 the playoffs are not a lock by any means, but with a loss at NAU, there's no chance. In short, this game is HUGE!

NAU has a strong offense and can definitely move the ball. If Weber wants to compete with NAU, in my opinion, Weber has to be able move the ball on the ground and limit NAU's offensive potency. Pretty much, Hill needs to watch the UC Davis win over NAU and virtually copy it. There is potential for Weber to have a really good day running the ball. If we can run, it really opens up our ability to pass the ball. I'm hoping to see a couple of really nice play action pass scenarios. However, it'll be defense again that wins this game. We can't keep up with their offense, we have to show up on defense and limit their abilities to move the ball if we want a chance at winning in Flagstaff.

Does anyone know if there will be any Weber State events surrounding the football game in Flagstaff this weekend? WeberCompliance? I live in the Phoenix area and will consider going to the game if there are any events/Alumni events occurring. It's fun to see the football team headed in a positive direction again!

I personally wouldn't want Weber in the playoffs unless they won out, and I have a hard time seeing that happening. If they did? Hell ya, throw 'em a bone or catnip or whatever you throw to a cat.

Why would you not want the cats in with a 7-4 record? That's like saying if the cats made the ncaa as a 16 seed that you would rather them just stay home... even if they get beat soundly it will help recruiting and may be the difference between getting a recruit or not.

I see it differently. Even though it was Montana, I wish they hadn't been in to take a 40 point beating to Syracuse in the NCAAs a few years back. I'd prefer not to see or have the players experience 7-70, 6-70, and 0-44 @ss kickings or have that spotlight on the program. That's not good for anyone, least of all the psyche of the players. I'd rather they hang their recruiting efforts on a 7-4 record (huge improvement in year 2) and the thought of being left out of the playoffs than getting thumped soundly. I have no idea that would happen but I'm just not buying this team as a legit playoff strength, yet. The wins are great and the thought of 7-4 is awesome and I'd rather "end on a good note" so to speak as they finish taking the "next step."

I'm not suggesting turning down an invite, rather I just hope the teams making the playoffs merit the invite and I just don't see Weber quite being there yet. They could very easily have been 2-5 right now with out a little luck the past few weeks. The way I see it is different from reality anyway since after the top 8 or so teams, some other factors such as potential attendance, facilities, etc. start to come into play.

After leaving the field without being able to put weight on his leg, it says that Jake Gallegos is our starting DT. I'm not sure, after what we saw on Saturday, if he will be able to play. Likio Pope hasn't played since the SUU game, I can only assume that he is injured. Maybe it isn't serious and he will be back this week. McKay Murphy is out for the season with an ACL injury that he sustained during Spring Ball.

So, if Likio is out, Murphy is out, and Gallegos is out, who else do we have? We know we have Filipe and Rayshawn, but what else? Does Coach Hill switch over a couple of OL guys who haven't played? Maybe the BYU transfer Chase Larson? The 2-deep for NAU is saying that the backup behind Filipe is Iosua Opeta, who is normally a DE. Vince Coleman is a bigger DE, but he has been playing great on his end with Jon Carlson playing on the other side. Our ends have been playing great. So had Jake. I hope his injury isn't serious and he is able to go on Saturday.

Jake was walking normal near the end of the game. I sit on the west side and he was out walking around talking to people after the win. I think he will be good to go.

Chase Larsen is red-shirting this year. He has not dressed a single game.

And most interesting is this quote from the NAU HC: “I think their quarterback play is stellar,” he said. “They’re just multidimensional. It always comes back to Jadrian Clark and the way he’s distributing the ball. It just seems like he can take a game over. I was very impressed with his performance last week.”

He must have only watched the 2nd half of the ND game... but I will agree with NAU HC it all rides on Clark. He plays well we are tough to beat. Game Day Wildcats!

...and if the play call doesn't read like a "see Spot run" book, chances are Jadrian plays well. If Weber shows up, especially the D, this has the makings of a good battle.

This is gonna be ugly. NAU is just shredding Weber's D and the offense is looking outmatched. This seems to happen every single time I start to get excited about the FB team. :ohno:

Holy sheet, there it is! It only took an entire quarter and a 0-21 start to bring a TE underneath for a nice pass and nice gain. Is there a reason that can't be a regular part of the offense? Nice kick by big K.
