Week 9 - @ Eastern Washington

The 5-2, 4-0 BSC (tied w/SUU @ 1st place) Eagles await...after clawing out a 43-41 win @ UNC. They seem to keep finding a way to win the close ones, on a 5 game win streak & undefeated at home. Would guess most have penciled in this game as a L for the Wildcats? At least EWU will roll out the red carpet (rather, TURF) for the 4-4, 3-2 BSC Wildcats. ;-)

Yeah...look out! They'll probably overlook us like the sheepherders to the east did. Look for the cardiac cats play spoiler in this one.
GO WILDCATS!!!

I don't know, I'd love to see a win in Cheney. However, Eastern has scored 42, 35, 55, 28, 42, 45, and 43 in their games this season. Weber's secondary has to show up from the opening kick. Weber can't take quarters off if they want to compete on Saturday. Put pressure on West, limit Kupp, and force Eastern into having to take FGs instead of converting TDs. Next, Jadrian has to move the ball and score TDs. Weber's best chance of beating the Eagles is to be consistent and not take drives off. This is a huge game for the Cats. A win would really help them keep any sort of playoff hopes alive.

In Weber's four wins the Cats Defense has been holding opposing teams to 19ppg.

In Weber's four losses the Cats Defense has been giving up an average of 40.7ppg.

Tale of two teams. Weber's defense also has 20 Sacks on the season and 59 tackles for a loss. Those are great numbers. The OL has only given up 12 Sacks and 39 TFL. If Weber could just put everything together and be consistent, this team could end up being something special.

Eastern Washington, like Montana, was penciled in as a Loss months ago. After watching the Eagles last week, I don't know what to think. If the team that played in Greeley a month ago shows up in Cheney, I believe that they could give the Eagles a run for their money. If we get the team that played the first half in Flagstaff, we might as well pack it in now. Jay is the greatest magician if he can go into Cheney and beat Eastern Washington.

Been reading a bit on the Eastern forum to get a feel for what Weber can expect on Saturday. The two teams have only two common opponents: Sac and NCU. Weber has two wins against those two, so does Eastern. However, the way that both teams beat their common opponents are far different. In both cases, Eastern needed late game heroics to beat these teams. Not saying that necessarily shows the Cats as being the superior team, but it does make one wonder why the disparity.

According to some Eastern fans, they feel that their team matches up well with Weber. I'm curious as to why?

To me, Weber's defense, which hasn't been amazing, could be the best defense the Eagles have faced yet. Cal Poly was strong and at that time might have been on par with where Weber's defense is now. Nevertheless, Weber's pass defense is pretty good. Great? No, but good. Yes, their offense is high-powered and they can really move the ball, and so it will be a major challenge for the Cats. Yet, in my estimation, Eastern really hasn't faced a team with a good pass defense or an overall above-average defense. To me, Weber matches up with Eastern well. More so than Eastern matches up with Weber. The Cats are run first, on offense and have been running the ball fairly well this season and are now finding their passing offense, which makes the Cats a two-dimensional team. Regardless, the Eagles aren't great at stopping the run. Now, we can run, and we can pass. If Weber didn't take off two quarters on Saturday, NAU would NOT have beaten us. We gifted-wrapped that one for the Jacks. The other three losses for the Cats have been to good defensive teams. I think, other than Cooper Kupp, that Weber matches up with the Eagles very well. Kupp, is the wildcard. He is amazing!! We can only limit him, we won't be able to stop him. If we play our game and can limit Kupp, I like our chances.

Don't know that much can be read into anything without looking at specific strengths/weaknesses but here are some other looks at scoring between the two. It's curious that Weber's worst scoring average is home vs BSC, while their best is away vs BSC. Additionally, Eastern's worst scoring defense is at home vs BSC. I'm not giving Weber much of a chance in this one but at least their ability to score at EWU is supported by these stats.

All I know is that IF WSU can't at least slow down Cooper Kupp then they have no chance in Helloween to win this weekend. The secondary better play MUCH better than it did at NAU, and the D Line better put the EWU QB on his ass and have him running for his life all game.

Has anyone else noticed that Weber's last game against Eastern was in Cheney, and that the next two times the teams meet, including this weekend, Weber has to play in Cheney? That is three straight games Weber has to travel to Cheney, without Eastern having to come to Ogden! WTF Fullerton and the Big Sky? That isn't fair? Who the hell determines conference schedules? Weber is getting the short end of the stick!!

Weber also has had to play at Montana 2 years in a row. :willybs:

Time to "walk the talk" coaches & team!... :twocents:

Good Start ! Except for an unfortunate interception that results eventually in a EWU TD, a good 1st half!
Wildcats 13-7 :thumb:

Ineligible receiver down field penalty just destroyed the game. Weber down 1... But could easily be up 20.

Weber will lose this game after out playing Eastern Washington pretty soundly. Holding Eastern to less than 200 yards of offense and getting around 400 yards of offense. Weber... Just being... Well... Weber.
