Been reading a bit on the Eastern forum to get a feel for what Weber can expect on Saturday. The two teams have only two common opponents: Sac and NCU. Weber has two wins against those two, so does Eastern. However, the way that both teams beat their common opponents are far different. In both cases, Eastern needed late game heroics to beat these teams. Not saying that necessarily shows the Cats as being the superior team, but it does make one wonder why the disparity.
According to some Eastern fans, they feel that their team matches up well with Weber. I'm curious as to why?
To me, Weber's defense, which hasn't been amazing, could be the best defense the Eagles have faced yet. Cal Poly was strong and at that time might have been on par with where Weber's defense is now. Nevertheless, Weber's pass defense is pretty good. Great? No, but good. Yes, their offense is high-powered and they can really move the ball, and so it will be a major challenge for the Cats. Yet, in my estimation, Eastern really hasn't faced a team with a good pass defense or an overall above-average defense. To me, Weber matches up with Eastern well. More so than Eastern matches up with Weber. The Cats are run first, on offense and have been running the ball fairly well this season and are now finding their passing offense, which makes the Cats a two-dimensional team. Regardless, the Eagles aren't great at stopping the run. Now, we can run, and we can pass. If Weber didn't take off two quarters on Saturday, NAU would NOT have beaten us. We gifted-wrapped that one for the Jacks. The other three losses for the Cats have been to good defensive teams. I think, other than Cooper Kupp, that Weber matches up with the Eagles very well. Kupp, is the wildcard. He is amazing!! We can only limit him, we won't be able to stop him. If we play our game and can limit Kupp, I like our chances.
