Week 9: Northern Arizona @ Sac State

Ouch. Was that miss on Diniz or on the line? NAU announcer said it was hit by someone's big mitt.

I don't wish this kind of ongoing bad luck on anyone. No matter what people say/think, kicking is not as easy as it looks. Feel sorry for the kid.

If our kicker had any nads he will leave in the off season. I have had enough of this clown. He sucks, it is nothing on the line.

Jason Diniz is directly responsible for us losing the last two games. I don't care what anyone says about kickers or the rest of the team, or whatever. He is an AVERAGE HIGH SCHOOL talent.

wow...i'm really surprised at the outcome. didn't realize Fleming would be out. didn't think they could run the way they did, and didn't think they would stop the run.

a blocked/missed PAT? wow.....that's a horrible way to lose it.

that trip to Portland is going to be tough next week.

If Fleming plays and your kicking game is more reliable, Sac State wins. But NAU has had precious little luck this season and got a bit this evening.

Had fun chatting football. Good luck the rest of the season, Hornet fans.

Two...two missed PATs... Guy has cost us 2 probably 3 wins this season

i just caught the last part of the 4th quarter; logged in 20-20. i was referring to the last drive. that's a killer.

And the hits just keep on coming. 2 missed/blocked XP's (whatever you want to call them) and the kicking game, yet again, loses a game for the Hornets. Oh, that and Jeff Flemming straining his labia in a tug-war contest on campus. That injury totally changed the dynamics of the past 2 weeks and started this musical QB's game.

What is it with the Hornets and injuries? Curtis Shaw can't stay healthy. Brandyn Reed can't stay healthy. Now Chase DeAdder and Jeff Flemming get hurt at the worst time of the season. The only guy that doesn't sprain something and miss time is the damn place kicker and he's unable to make the most routine of kicks. This team can't every catch a break or take advantage of one even if it did come along.

But digressing back to this kicking situation, it's unacceptable. You can't keep losing games when you put the kid on the field. Missing FG's is one thing. But unable to get sufficient lift on PAT's so they aren't easily blocked?? Unbelievable.

At this point, the Hornets are better off going for 2 every single time. They probably would have won this game had they used that tactic.

What a way to squander what should have been a successful season. Welcome to Hornet football.

You basically stole my mind

the two blocks were definitely on the line! did you see the penetration??? that was ridiculous, nothing any kicker can do when there ar 6'4" guys jumping 3 yards in front of you

Personally i felt one of the biggest reasons we lost the game was because of nash when he GAVE nau 30 yards on one drive with a hands to the face and then the personal foul and nau capitalized that drive with a TD. as a senior he cant be making those mistakes

While NAU was on their last drive of the game, we had our punter, Augie Heath, practicing place kicking on the sideline and Diniz was standing behind the down marker with his helmet off! If Sac St would've gotten the ball back and within field goal range, we were putting Heath in to try the kick; Diniz was done. I hope we do that next week and let Heath try place kicking from the start. We HAVE to try someone else! Diniz has no confidence left; or capability.

on a somewhat off-topic, scheduling a 6:00 kickoff on 'Halloween' Saturday wasn't a great idea. 6600 fans; probably a low student turnout? coming after a big homecoming crowd, you'd think an afternoon kickoff might have drawn a couple thousand more.

I don't recall seeing much penetration up the middle on the first blocked PAT. I didn't see the second blocked PAT. Diniz' PAT's have been low all season. ALL SEASON. It was only a matter of time before some of them started getting blocked.

I am sure last weeks results had more to do with a low turnout than Halloween. This weeks results guarantees a less than 8k turnout for the ISU game. With the magnitude of suckage between the farm extension and the Hornets, I'd be shocked if the Causeway cracks 10k.

it will crack 10k, even with lousy records. it won't be the 17000 of a couple years back, but, there will be a decent crowd.....unless there is a really good game on TV that day!

suckage or no suckage....i'll make the trip. Stanford vs Aggies in basketball at the ARC friday, followed by the 1:00 kickoff (for TV) in Sac. i'll stop by some poster's tailgate, and we can drown our sorrows.

We just burned Smith Heath's redshirt year, but at least did not have any 20 yard shanks. 2 turnovers in the redzone, too many defensive penalties that resulted in scores, slapping at guys as they ran by rather than tackling them, no OC to call creative plays so NAU knew what our 10 plays were, and our kicker not even warming up on FG's or extra points at half time.... Maybe Augie can fill a new role. No fire in the team after missing the extra points. Knowing you have to go for it on 4th down every time and then if you do score, then what?

Other teams have figured out our defense and the blitzing is suffering because the guys blitzing our coming from WAY OFF the edge. By the time they get to the quarterback he's watching his receiver run with the ball....

Off to Portland this week for the game, but fortunately I have a fishing trip planned too, since the game could get ugly after what PSU did to EWU.

This is on the coaches, now. They have to motivate these guys, make some creative changes and just go for it now.

I am sure that Halloween party night had more than last week's game. As I recall a couple of year's ago it was something like 4,500 on Halloween weekend and that was a afternoon game. Not as many students there last night. Attendance down everywhere this weekend except for the Montana Jailbirds! I expect the Causeway to draw between 13,000-15,000.

Good point. Maybe the admin can avoid scheduling games on Halloween weekend going forward.

a couple years ago a student was killed on campus right before the weekend started and that is why the attendance was down that weekend. all the students went home
