What didja think about the Jerry Glanville piece on ESPN?

I thought it was really neat---quite a gem and feather in both JG's and PSU's caps. Everyone interviewed well and the situation can become a national human interest story. I liked JG's analogy of the bus which consistently blows a tire going down the road and how he sees himself as the driver who needs to continually fix things.

Only about 10 minutes in length, but it was sweet savor. A follow up story "How's Jerry Glanville doing at Portland State" may also make a good ESPN feature, say, a year from now.

They had it on sports center too. The more times it plays and the more general attention around Glanville the better. Whether or not he is the snake-oil salesman OBSF says he is, PSU is getting more attention then ever.

Attention, sure. But I worry about expectations being set too high. I'm glad we're coming in as underdogs against McNeese State. I'm looking forward to fall practice and a look at the team.

Hopefully some FBS athletic director will take note that Jerry is looking for a game and call him. It is not like the teams in here in the Big 12 aren't familiar with Big Sky schools. Montana State is playing Texas A&M. It will be a slaughter, but at least the Cats will get some big time exposure.

I lived in Portland for about 10 years and I noticed that Oregon would have a couple good years then fall apart. Oregon State would have an ok season then resume their normal position as Pac 10 doormat.

It won't be long until both teams will be clammoring for what they will consider to be "inferior" teams for easy wins and bright spots in what will be an otherwise mediocre season in the PAC 10.Last edited by on 2007-07-07, 22:39; edited 1 time in total

I'm not so sure about OSU being the doormat. They don't recruit well, but Riley always gets the best of what he has. As to UO, they recruit well and play poorly. I think they're both destined for 7-9 wins most years, but certainly not the doom you see.

Good point about OSU and what they get out of what they have. If last year is any indication, they could have had a sub .500 season with the start that they had.

They have some spots to fill, but having 16 returning starters sure will help for this coming year.

Be that as it may.....based on past histories I still think that Oregon and Oregon State will go from an ok season to a mediocre one

I have been a long time fan of Duck football, but after seeing the way they treated Glanville when he called to get a game with them, I can't get excited about their program.

I, also, predict a mediocre season for the PAC-10 teams from Oregon. USC, Cal, UCLA, Washington all are on the up-tick.

Usually, Pac-10 teams with senior quarterbacks finish HIGHER in the conference.

Odd situation with Oregon... Dennis Dixon and Jonathan Stewart kind of lost confidence last year. The Ducks usually figure out ways to work these things out. Throw a new offensive coordinator into the mix... maybe something good, maybe something bad.
