I just found a VERY interesting number, it's our home attendance avg. for mens basketball. Let's all keep in mind that it was a season in which WSU lost only 2 home games. We averaged only 4,597 fans per game. Our marketing department should be totally embarrassed by this number WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

Sadly it was still the highest Big Sky home attendance for bball.

We need to find a way for our "fans" to become passionate about there team, school, logo. Thats what its like at USU and Boise St. Getting the alumni more involved woudl be a good start. I like the Bob's idea about the free tickets. People who have never been or haven't been for a long time, this would be a good way to try and get them to come back. As far as bball is concerned this actually might work if Rahe can continue having success.

I think all the Utah colleges could take notes from USU. Go to logan some time. Utah State stuff/flags everywhere. U see "A" plates everywhere too. U just dont see it like that in Ogden, Salt Lake or Provo (lol).

I think getting the students involved is as important if not more as the getting the alumni involved.
If only 25% of the student body came to a basketball game the stadium would be half full.

problem is probably most of the student population is working every night. I loved going to the games as a student, but sadly I had to pay tuition and so had to work just about every night and missed several games. That's what you get with commuter colleges like weber. I think it would be easier/more plosable to fill the arena with alumni.

I completely agree, between Davis, Weber and Box Elder county's their should be plenty of Alumni who could come to games but the problem lies with the lack of weber's marketing and snob attitude to give people discounts or free tickets. Something needs to happen. I would really like to see this years homecoming be packed but I'm sure it won't be, anyway.

What about these Utah State Aggie fans coming down to sit in our section during the F-IN basketball game. We are doing the promotion "FILL THE DEE" for the game saturday but we need students to get there early to sit in the section the FAGGIES sit in. I'm under the impression when I talked to Jerry Graybeal that he really doesn't give a nutterbutter about the student section or who sits there. What the Hell is his problem!
We are trying to get this promotion out to the community as fast as we can.

It's frustrating trying to get the community involved in wsu sports. All week long I've been talking up wsu bball at work, and all my coworkers just laugh. The only other weber fan I can find is a woman who's daughter plays defense on the girls soccer team. I work with almost 100 people. We need to do something to get these people in the seats once or twice so they can see how fun the games are and how good our team is. If we gave them some discounted or free tickets to a game or two, i bet many would come back.

Didn't weber give out a ton of tickets to the first football game coach mac coached? Why can't we give out a few thousand tickets to a couple big wsu basketball games too? The marketing department has to do something to improve attendance, that is for sure. It's almost like they know about this forum and think it will do their job for them. Lazy!

For starters, I know that you can purchase WSU gear at Macey's and at Shopko. Please buy something there so that they will carry more gear. Also, call or send e-mails to the AD and/or the marketing Director. If we can flood his in box, maybe something will get done!!

BTW Jerry does care who sits in the student section. 2 years ago when the Aggies came to play, the students could go and get reserved seats in the student section. Many of the students were getting tickets for their friends who attend USU. Also, there were WSU students who were wearing USU t-shirts and cheering for the Aggies while sitting in the Student Section. I personally asked Jerry how and why there were so many Faggie fans in the the student section. And these are the answers that he gave me.

Two years ago perhaps was the most embarrasing moment I have ever had at the Dee Events Center... Thankfully Cravens did his little dance on the road! The USU fans started chanting Harrison High at the end of the game. We can never allow that to happen again. We've got to do all that we can to fill the Dee on Saturday night and keep the fans coming all season long!!

Everything goes back to the marketing department or lack there of. Seriously other than the Standard Examiner (or other paper) what other source of media do you hear about the games coming up? It is pathetic, why couldn't the Big Sky and WSU team up with Channel 14 and be apart of "the fan" network. It would have been better than having a small ad in the Standard on 4c (not even in the sports section).

Other than that the students don't have an excuse that they are working nights, 20,000+ student body and I doubt they are working Saturday night, why not take a date to the game?

And yes it does suck when the opponents fans (USU, BYU, U of U) are more vocal and out number WSU's home fans.

You almost get the feeling that the marketing folks just think that the public doesn't care, so they don't care too much about sports either. Well, no wonder we have a problem getting the community involved. WSU itself could care less if the community cared, so why should the community care?
I know. that was kind of wordy, but do ya'll get what i'm sayin'?

I guess we'll just have to fill the Dee '06-07 style which means our win-loss record will decide whether or not we can fill it, sadly.

One of the est things that Weber sports has going for it is that theyer are a handful of great fans that come to the game every week, even when they are almost kiked out of the Dee. If the Dee is to get full it is up to this handfull to bring folks with them to the game. I am bringing nine with me on Saturday, and I make ten.
The Big Sky has a small tv deal right now. The game aginst Utah State will be on Altitude.
While I am in class a lot of people do no tknow how good some of Weber sports are. I know that one girl was suprised that Weber had won one football game, when i told her that they were 4 and 5 she was shocked. People just do not know. It is by talking abot it, and getting a small buzz around the team that it will grow.

That's nice but how about KJAZZ 14 covering an away game, like the football final against E. Washington or the basketball games at BYU, Illinois, UCLA tournament...

Apparently a lot of Weber County-ites as well as WSU students and alumni are not aware of our winning traditon in basketball. Maybe we need to wear shirts that say:

WSU Basketball - 17 titles, 24th highest winning pct in NCAA Div I history, 51st greatest all around basketball program of all time.

You'd by think winning 40% of the Big Sky titles some local idiots might notice!

Also we have a winning record at home against ALL of the in-state schools.
