When is Enough, Enough? Fire Collins - Free the Bears

I know many of the people on this board do not think he will be fired because of our idiot AD Dunn, but there is power in $$$$ when people stop showing up at games, when they stop buying apparel, when the boosters stop giving money a change has to happen. Stop buying tickets. Stop helping these idiots keep their jobs.

Stop supporting Collins, stop supporting this staff. The only thing fans should be supporting are the players, and I feel horribly sorry for the players on this team to have to deal with a coach who simply only cares about his paycheck. He could care less about the players. If a parent has a kid on the team and is best friends with a coach, he will play over a more talented player.

Collins consistently during his tenure has played favorite players. Has kicked certain kids off the team after a first offense while others simply are allowed to screw up over and over and continue to play. There may be some cultural bias in that but I won't expand.

I have heard stories from players on the team of what happened to players on the OL, the DL, a TE, and a few others in just the past year where collins had no honor. No morals. He is out to get his own. As long as he gets paid each week he does not care what happens on the field.

This man needs to be out of a job, Collins never should coach in football again. He can't manage time in a game, can't keep a good kicker on campus, there were around 25 kids who left the program.. Coincidence I think not.. Rubacalba and Vandervelde are playing together at Mesa. Both were starters in this program. On full scholarship.. Why would they leave? The head coach, the OC..

The only coaches respected in this program are Woody, Kerr, and Grable. All others need to get with the program or get out. And we all know that truly means get out.

When will Dunn, The President, and the Momforts want to when games? Never.. Look at out the Momforts run the Rockies.. HORRIBLE.. they run this program the same way.

The players need to realize it is time to either stop showing up like the Minnesota State Mankato kids.. Get this man fired!

Oh and I will let Mustari interpret this is I have no merit to my statements but neither does he. He is on Collins Payroll.. Horrible Writer.

FIRE Collins.. Free these Bears of this idiocracy

Fellow bears/Forum Members, criticize me all you want, but we need change, we need a coach who will support these players who deserve to win games.

Does anyone know if Dunn actually goes to the games? If he does he must feel very awkward with the people sitting around him as they look at the poor performance of the team and all the empty seats in the once filled stadium. This program is a mess and must be cleaned up. The person with the power to do something is the AD. Players leaving and lack of recruiting good players and putting a winning team on the field is the responsibility of the coach and that is obvious that this is not happening. Lets hope we will someday have an answer to these problems. It is painful to watch this week after week.

Or... You can go to the games, enjoy the weather, a football game, and not be overly concerned with the record of the team. Eat a hotdog, relax, and just support the team. In the grand scheme of things, who cares who the coach is, what the teams record is, or what the AD is doing. Most of these players are at the school by their (and probably their parents) choosing. Most of them receive some sort of full or partial scholarship, and if they don't like the school or coaches, have the option to leave. Let's not get too wrapped around the axle on this and lose site on the fact that it all comes down to the education of young adults, all else is secondary. And the last time I checked, the University of Northern Colorado does a pretty good job of that. If you believe that boycotting the school, holding back your donations, or not spending your money on merchandise is going to help in the education of young adults, then have at it. If you are doing all of that just so you can brag about having a great football team, go root for a better team. If you are alumni; support your school, if you are a current player; enjoy your scholarship (partial or full) and focus on your education, if you are a parent; be proud of your kids education, if you are a fan; be a fan, don't be a judgmental, bitter, rude person with a sense of entitlement in regard to how good of a football team, coach, or school you feel you deserve.

Are you freakin kidding me godeev ?? Enjoy the weather , have a hot dog, relax?? Let's all kumbiya at the end of the game and celebrate another loss ! We have been losing for 10 years ! How long have you been a Bears fan ? Do you enjoy losing ? I will guarantee you there is not a kid on this team that enjoys losing ? They won't settle for it and fans and boosters will not settle for losing ! If you are going to tell us it does not matter who the coach is and that its ok to just play and not care about winning , you are way off base! Winners can and will be successful on the field and in the classroom ! Get a grip

Wow, you must have vested interest in this team. I hope for your sake they start winning so you can get a high return on your investment. Oh, and for the record, I am not a UNC football fan. I hope you get your pound of flesh, it sounds like you have earned it. Best of luck to you. Oh, and losers seem to be able to do okay in the classroom also... Unless of course every UNC football player for the last ten years has failed to graduate.

Well your true colors came out with that lame reply and please don't bring your losing values over to the Basketball board !

Okay, I am sorry I didn't live up to your expectations. I will be sure to stay away from these boards from here on out. Have a great day.

To Godeev,
I fully understand about the bigger picture you are talking about. But I don't think you should put anybody down for expressing their frustration on this message board. I try to be positive by preaching to the FB players that adversity builds strength and that life isn't fair. I have also explained that their coaches are doing the best they can.
That said, this head coach has proven that he is way in over his head. He and his staff deserved to be fired. Boyer's post-game press conference for the Weber State game is pathetic. He has let his pride get in the way of doing the right thing, that is, taking a majority of the blame and understanding that he is NOT an FCS OC. He wasn't even successful at D2 Mesa State.
Here is a good strategy. Keep the coaching staff and the players in our prayers. They need it. The coaches are not bad guys, they are just collectively a terrible staff.
GO BEARS!

Godevv? Are you serious or just trolling. If you are serious then you have obviously have never played a college sport before. You really think it's that easy that if a player has a losing record they should just transfer and leave? This is division 1 football. Yeah is AA but for you to say it doesn't matter who wins and loses, I'm not even going to start. That was one of the most pathetic things I have heard in the message board.

This could be posted on the UC Davis board right now - same situation. Our only hope for a win this year is against UNC. You may be thinking a similar thought about beating us.

Nah, we don't think we can beat anyone at this point.

Collins has got to go, but I believe we missed our window to get a good coach in.

After watching Boyer's post-game press conference I realize that he simply does not understand the basics of football. He could be the worst OC I have ever seen. This is my reason for believing this...
In his press conference he talks about "out-scheming" the defense and blaming the refs for slowing the pace down that resulted in the defense bringing in the correct down & distance package. When a team has to rely on those kinds of tactics to be successful, then the battle has already been lost. That is because the players who need to be physical (i.e. O Line) actually start thinking that tactics like "tempo" will put them in an advantage over the defense. The only advantage these players have is to be prepared to KICK THE SHIT OUT OF THE PLAYER IN FRONT OF THEM. Nothing more and nothing less. Let those guys put their hands in the dirt and block. Football need not be complicated (interestingly, Collins says this). Teams that have a proven track record can be successful in implementing tactics like "tempo" and "out-scheming teams with specific skill sets". But teams who are trying to establish a tradition of winning need to rely on the basics, blocking and tackling.
Stop making the game complicated and return to the basics. Whether it is a run or a pass, our O Line is not executing their responsibilities.
Regarding the offense, it is my opinion we are not successful because:
1. The O Line is being pushed around (thanks Dink).
2. Boyer has the O Line thinking that tempo will give them an advantage. The only advantage is to be prepared to dominate the player in front of you.
3. Lack of leadership. Knipp has talent, but at this time experience is needed for leadership. Sometimes the O Line needs the QB to get in their face as well as appreciate their efforts. I don't think Knipp can do that yet (thanks Boyer).
4. Tempo has the entire O second guessing. The look they have when they are waiting for a play from the sideline is embarrassing. They look like a bunch of 6 year olds waiting to see if their mommy will let them have a popsicle. Give me a break.
5. HC Collins has allowed this to happen.
Enough said.

Well said Kaydee, you are exactly right on the money. The players believe that Boyer is purposely undermining this team. I don't know why, but if the team has a bad season maybe he believes Collins will be fired leaving the HC job open for him.

That makes no sense, and I don't believe it. If his offense is horrible, then why would be in consideration for replacement?

After I read my last message I realized that I came down a little hard on the O Line. My emphasis is that Boyer's tactics of "out-scheming" the defense by implementing "tempo", has been counter productive to preparing the O Line for success on Saturdays. I believe that the talent we have is more than adequate, they just need to be better prepared. Another example of how Boyer is screwing up is how he has over-ruled his O Line coach by not allowing James Floyd (Tulsa transfer) to play with the first team. The players say that he is a beast.

Rumor is that if the Sacramento game results in another loss, then Collins will let Boyer go. I believe that if we lose the Sac game, then Collins will be let go. In either case, it would be a step in the right direction.

Nothing about this team or the decisions made make sense. Why were we down 31-0 against Weber? that makes absolutely no sense

I like the optimism but Dunn and Norton are spineless and gutless!!!!!! They wont make any decisions mid-season that would make their lives too difficult in the process. They didn't make a change in the off season, why would they make a change IN-season?! I thought Dunn would be a breath of fresh air when he got hired but he just subscribes to the do nothing approach that Norton takes to her daily job! I don't think Boyer really has much control of the offensive scheme and the decisions that are made it all comes from Collins who is such an egomaniac that he refuses to let the coaches do their jobs! He micro-manages the coaches to death and their only real job is to be a placeholder for when Collins to be there for real!

It's comments like those of Godeev that really show the true ignorance of those with views like that of the value of a winning football program. I believe I have referenced this in the past, but I feel compelled to do it again. There are a number of studies that support the fact that a winning program generates a greater interest in admissions. It is commonly known as the Flutie Effect. Let's not forget the economic impact in ticket sales, merchandise sales, donations, and TV Contracts (It's no coincidence that CSU-P has a TV contract). And what about benefits to the local economy like more hotel rooms booked, restaurant sales, etc., generated by more fans coming to town to watch home games. What kind of impact would a program that brings in an average of 10k fans do for the school and Greeley? Would a winning program help reverse the continued decline in admission applications to UNC?

And just to show I am not pulling this out of my butt, here is an excerpt from a Forbes article on the Flutie Effect-

Enter Chung, whose recent research paper, The Dynamic Advertising Effect of Collegiate Athletics, shows how on-field heroics can benefit schools by increasing both the quantity and the quality of students they can expect to attract.

His findings include:

- When a school rises from mediocre to great on the gridiron, applications increase by 18.7 percent.

- To attain similar effects, a school has to either lower tuition by 3.8 percent or increase the quality of its education by recruiting higher-quality faculty, who are paid 5 percent more than their average peers in the academic labor market.

- Students with lower-than-average SAT scores tended to have a stronger preference for schools known for athletic success, while students with higher SAT scores preferred institutions with greater academic quality. Also, students with lower academic prowess valued the success of intercollegiate athletics for longer periods of time than the high SAT achievers.

- Even students with high SAT scores are significantly affected by athletic success—one of the biggest surprises from the research, Chung says.

- Schools become more academically selective with athletic success.

Although a boost in applications is a good outcome, there are a variety of other reasons why schools invest in sports. A primary reason, says Chung, is to further the NCAA’s commitment to diversity and morale. Schools also build sports programs because it can be financially beneficial to do so—intercollegiate sporting events generated an estimated $2 billion in revenue and $1 billion in profit in 2010. Winning programs prosper in diverse ways including ticket and product sales, alumni donations, and TV contracts. Chung is currently studying the effect of winning on revenues.

Sorry about the long post, but I get tired of people spewing the BS that a winning program isn't important.
