Who Should Replace Sears

Rob Akey?? He is a Wildcat and has great connections.

:o ??? Really? One would only need to review the record at Idaho under his guidance to question it. Maybe it was more the circumstances there, but I was disappointed in his ranting & putdown about going to the FCS level in the Big Sky. Idaho finally dumped him...now he is a sports commentator on ROOT (will be on the broadcast team today for the Wildcat game).

Well, Pflu sure flexed his muscle yesterday. Yikes!! The offense looked amazing. His offense does take some time to get going.

Not sure about that, but there were some signs of life. Let's see how things look the rest of the way. It's interesting Weber was able to handle SFA, who, in turn, took care of MSU. Then, Weber competes (for a good part of the game) against a MSU team that in all likelihood should have run 'em off the field. To my knowledge, Pflu has had a chance to "flex his muscle" in all but one game this season; ironically, the only game Weber has won and, by far, the biggest offensive output.

I think we can finally say we saw some improvements, I'm just not sure if we can say it was on Weber, a match-up thing, or something else. Whatever is was, it sure beats what we've witnessed the past 5 weeks.

Akey? you have got to be kidding me, you are either a total moron or you dont know crap about WSU football history in regards to Rob Akey. When Rob was an assistant coach here he literally left in the middle of the night to take the exact same position at NAU. He didn't bother telling WSU of his decision until AFTER he was in Flagstaff. REAL CLASSY you JACK WAGON! I would rather hire John L 3 more time than hire Rob Akey 1 more time. Akey thinks he is too good for FCS football and has taken every opportunity to belittle the FCS and the BIG SKy in general. Just because he was once a Wildcat sure as hell doesn't mean WSU should hire him again. He has burned every bridge he had back to Ogden and he did it on purpose. :twocents:

I remember this as well. Not only did he desert the team, but he was not very friendly, not willing to talk to people, and just made a bad impression on me all around. This would be the VERY LAST choice on the list of 1,000 eligible replacements.

Rob Akey = Douchebaggery not needed in Ogden.
as far as I am concerned, IF Sears can get these guys to keep playing hard these last 4 games like they did against MSU then not only will they win a few more games but I think Sears should remain the head Coach.

YIKES!! I totally forgot about that incident. What the hell was I thinking. Thank you for reminding me. Shiz, I just pulled a bengalhater.

Does winning three out of the remaining four or two, preserve Sear's job? Would it be wise to keep Sears?

Biggest needs for next year? Lineman, size, and speed?

I watched the MSU game on TV and saw a team that once again played hard (not always well). I would expect more ups and downs through the rest of the season as this is a young team and yes, a coaching staff that I am sure is still working hard at getting better also. I do not think Weber could bring in a veteran staff that is not going to take time to adjust and recruit "their" players. More likely you will get someone like Coach Sears who is learning how to be a head coach. I do not think it would be better to start over again. If they are doing the right things as far as recruiting, academics, and in the community then the Football side will work itself out. Again, I do not claim to be a "Weber" guy, but I think if you want this program to succeed you need to support your program 100% until this staff has a real chance to prove themselves, 3 full recruiting classes, as this year Freshmen is really their first class.

We do not expect you to screen every poster to determine if they're a recruit or not. However, we ask that if someone does identify him/herself as a recruit or a family member of a recruit, you do not communicate with that person.

Guys, just a reminder that we can't communicate with anyone (above) being recruited or family members of a recruit by WSU, it could be a ncaa recruiting violation. :bad: albeit a dumb one...
Thanks for posting the reminder. Stay compliant, my friends.
Unfortunately, VRPIA has already identified himself as the father of a recruit. We still can't reply to him under his current username. It would be nice though if he created a different username and didn't identify himself.

I don't agree. As long as he doesn't talk about recruits he's free to post all he wants, and as long as we don't ask about recruits we are free to respond all we want. Plus, this rule only applies to boosters, which by definition are those who currently or have previously donated money to the booster club or athletics department. And buying tickets (unless those tickets include a donation) is not considered making a donation. So unless you're a booster, you can say whatever the hell you want on a fan forum not at all associated with or sponsored by the University.

The conversation is regarding the football program at Weber for which his son is being recruited. As long as our opinions can directly affect his son's decision, I believe we could be in the wrong. I'd rather we don't put our a$$es in a sling for a stupid error in judgment and the pride of verbalizing our opinions.

Do as you please, but I'm a fan and not a booster, and I'll say whatever I want. The University doesn't own or sponsor this site, and has no authority here. Only the site's administrators can police what happens here (if they tell me to shut up, I'll gladly shut up). And if you are a booster you'll have to police yourself.

NCAA Bylaw 13.01.5.1 applies to Division I athletics and became effective August 1, 1987. It reads as follows: "In Division I, representatives of an institution's athletic interests (as defined in 13.02.12) are prohibited from making in-person, on- or off-campus recruiting contacts, or written or telephone communications with a prospect or the prospect's family or legal guardians."

Bylaw 13.02.12 defines a booster (which is a representative of an Institution's athletic interests). An abbreviated version of this regulation is set below: A "Booster" is any individual who is a member of the university's athletic booster club, has ever made any donations to the club or athletic department, is involved in any manner of recruiting prospects or in providing benefits (summer jobs) to enrolled student-athletes, or is otherwise involved in promoting the university's athletics program."

From what I can see, ever being a member of The Pack would be considered a booster because of its promotion of WSU Athletics.

But whatever. Do what you want. Just know that it's a dark gray line that the NCAA can push whichever direction they prefer. Please keep the interests of the university and the boosters in mind when you click "Reply."
Perhaps some forum guidelines and rules permanently placed in the Announcements section, similar to what has been done on the ISU site, would be helpful. These rules need to come from the site administrators, not the University, but perhaps Compliance can assist in the development of such rules.

I agree. I don't want us to make a bonehead mistake that could have been avoided. I just have the best interest of our athletics at heart. Not trying to be a jerk, just keep us in the clear.

I guess some rules are already in the football forum, but more specifics on what can and can't be said, as well as how posts from recruits or recruit's family members will be handled, would be good.
