Who Will Be QB1

Knipp, Brock, Rubs, and Newsom are the guys, who do you think will be QB1 on game day this fall..?

My opinion I think Rubs keeps the job because of experience.. :thumb:

They are all starting capability, but apparently Rubes is considering transferring. That's what was said by someone on the board.

I'm ok with all having starting capability but the "Rubes" leaving rumor makes me sick !

If that is the case it might mean that he saw the writing on the wall in that the others were better and he would not have the starting job. That situation reminds me of what a great kid Orms was his senior season when he was told that he would not be the starter even though the team voted him as captain and responded by showing his support for the team and was an inspiration to the team even though he had to take a back seat to Lobato. He was a great leader and a true Bear. I still believe we would have had more success with him that year, but I guess they were looking at the future and thought Lobato had the potential to turn the program around in his next couple of years.

And I believe it harmed the Bears season. Orms was a leader and looking back at it hindsight, I sort of understand having Lobato in there (here's on an NFL roster), but you want your captains out on the field. Rubes is a leader. He needs to be the starter.

Leader or not, the QB that gives the team the best chance to win is the QB that needs to be on the field. I don't think we really know who that is. Rubes showed flashes, but so did Newsom. From a pure talent perspective, Berglund looks the part more than any of them, but it remains to be seen if he can do it in a game situation or even stay healthy. And I have heard nothing but good things about the play of Knipp. All indications are that he is the future.

But if I were betting on who it will be, I would put my money on Rubes. Not necessarily because he is the best option or already a leader. I would put my money on him because I don't believe the coaches have the guts to make a change if it is warranted. And don't use the Lobato vs Orms argument here. That move was as much or more about putting "their guy" in as it was about the future.

I agree. This is a good problem to have. They'll have four QB's that could start any game.

Old qb statements are seem irrelevant.
I would like to support the respect for DO as a young man however.
The tough thing is the intangibles associated with the qb position. Their demeanor, ability to motivate lineman and ability to be an extension of the coach on the field are impossible to quantify. NFL rosters have a lot to do with"upside and projection", quite obviously a small part of the college position given the limited timeframe.
Bottom line is that the coaches make the decision that is in the best interest of winning (although my lack of faith in this staff is well documented). Ultimately, if coaches make poor choices it impacts their employment status.....right? Whoever the qb is deserves or full support.

That's too bad. I wish Sean the best.

I wish Rubes nothing but the best also. By the way another starting player has left also a TE. I new after Collins tried to rob the other two kids who quit of their scholarship money the rest of the kids who wanted to quit would wait to leave until after finals when he couldn't touch their money. They will be lucky to keep most of the backups. Dunn must be so proud.

Sean's father was just on this board a few months ago saying he has a fine relationship with Collins and Boyer. I wonder what happened?

Like I said before, he saw the writing on the wall that there is better talent trying for his job and he didn't want to be a backup. I think this is the main reason for all transfers unless by some chance they are transferring to move up to a higher level program which in this case I doubt. Again I mention what a great Bear Dylan Orms was.

First off let me state that what I say on these posts are my words, and am in know way speaking for Sean. There was no writing on the wall Bud bear, Sean had a great winter and spring, Said he felt solid with his understanding of the offense and graded out terrific this spring. I think all people involved with the team will back that up. Sean does and will continue to have a great relationship with coach Boyer. I think its time for a change for Sean. We wish nothing but the best for the Bears.

Hopefully he finds a place he enjoys. True Bear fans know this time will pass and we will get back on track someday. I wish Sean would have stuck it out, and helped the team win though. We've seen good players come and go, life moves on, and there's nothing anyone of us can do. I'll support the players who decide to stay though. Commitment to a program (through the long hull) is a hard concept for youth these days. UNC is not the only one struggling with players leaving. I recently saw an article in ESPN or SI about about high number of transfers colleges have these days. I think it was about college basketball, but in some senses the same applies for football.

Good luck to Rubes! I'm sure it was a tough decision, but he needs to do what will make him happy. From what I hear the players will miss him.

I think Newsom is the man as well, but wouldn't be surprised if Berglund made a move.

As for the TE, it was Vandy. He graduated and chose not to return for his 5th year. Can't really blame him with the state of the program being what it is.

That leaves Rhodes, Samad and the 2 red shirt freshman at TE. Plus I think there is the kid from Valor who grey shirted last year. All in all not much depth and little experience at TE. Hope the no huddle spread works because they probably aren't going to be lining up in many two TE sets and working a power running game.

Well Vandy will have more time to comb his hipster mustache now. That's good for him. Isn't he related some how to coach Boyer, through marriage? That would make awkward family get-together.

As for the QB race, I'll put money on Berglund if he's healthy, but that's a BIG IF.
