Who Will Be QB1

Good luck to Rubes! I'm sure it was a tough decision, but he needs to do what will make him happy. From what I hear the players will miss him.

I think Newsom is the man as well, but wouldn't be surprised if Berglund made a move.

As for the TE, it was Vandy. He graduated and chose not to return for his 5th year. Can't really blame him with the state of the program being what it is.

That leaves Rhodes, Samad and the 2 red shirt freshman at TE. Plus I think there is the kid from Valor who grey shirted last year. All in all not much depth and little experience at TE. Hope the no huddle spread works because they probably aren't going to be lining up in many two TE sets and working a power running game.

Good luck to Rubes. Great Kid.

That finality is a loss for The Bears on so many levels......yes, transfers happen at every university every year, however, in my opinion. ...we lost a first class leader, player, and a young man that represented UNC in a very positive light. Good on you Rubes....best of luck!

There are two articles in the Tribune about Rubes transferring, and both covered by Mustari. One is about the phone call he made to Sean and Sean's explanation. Basically stating that Rubes is homesick and most of his good friends had graduated. Also had some quotes from Collins and Rubes, in which both say that Sean would probably have been the starter if we had a game tomorrow. That being said, the QB position was open for competition, just like all positions. Apparently he is also moving on for academic reasons.

The second article is a well-written opinion piece in which Sam basically states Rube's reasoning for transferring does not add up, and he has some valid points. Sean is from Grand Junction, only five hours away from Greeley. That's an easy days drive on game day. Also, he is a business major and the Monfort College of Business is one of the best in the state. Why major in business at Mesa? It also implies that Mustari believes Rubes didn't like that the position for QB was up for grabs. He stated Rubes wasn't exactly turning heads with his performance, but he didn't exactly have the supporting cast on offense. There was no running game and the offensive line was/is horrible.

I tend to agree with Sam, but I also give the benefit of doubt to Rubes. I don't think Sean would lie to a newspaper reporter, but he might be withholding larger parts of the story. Either way, go check out the Trib's articles, they're well worth the pay wall.

Greeley Tribune is reporting that Rubalcaba has left UNC and is planning on enrolling at Mesa.

From the outside it seems unusual that Rubalcaba would would leave UNC to enroll at Mesa. The Mavs finished in the middle of the RMAC last season and it doesn't look like they'll make a legit run at the conference championship this coming season; even with the talent he brings. :?

This is much easier to take than the fans at Eastern must have felt when their starting QB left for Oregon. I hope the guys left are better and bring some wins to the program.

Let us not forget that the programs that are consistently successful on the field, usually have the most frustrated 2s (second team). In other words, players who believe that they could be the starters. This breeds the kind of competition and depth necessary to make a successful team. That means that the challenge rests on the shoulders of the coaches to communicate with the players about their role on the team. When a team is on a losing streak like UNC, this kind of effective communication is difficult. I would not want to be in the shoes of any of the UNC coaches when they are faced with these kinds of communication challenges. How can they rationalize to the 1s and 2s (and 3s) the reasons why they are making ANY coaching decisions, when the players ultimately beleive that they are NOT being prepared to win on the field (as evidence by their win/loss record).
Very tough situation.

Cool video and read on the QB situation. Looks to be a tight race, and I don't think anyone has a clue who will end up starting labor day weekend. I really like this Knipp kid. I don't know if he will start, but I like his attitude.
