Who will be the next Defense Coordinator?

On either the television or radio (I can't remember which) broadcast Saturday, one of the broadcasters said there were rumors that Coach Burton may hire a new Defense Coordinator sometime this week. Any idea on who it may be?

Heh, I just had to...

I wonder if it'll be more of a temporary hire since we're three games into the season.

A 70 year old DC! Glad our Viking fans still have a sense of humor. Some reason I was thinking Nick Holt, but this is just a guess, no facts involved. The broadcaster stated Coach Burton said, "if you find the right person, why wait in hiring him," or something similar to that.

'In August 2012, Holt was named the on-campus recruiting coordinator for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. The position was previously held by Jessica Dorrell, the mistress of former Arkansas head coach, Bobby Petrino, at a salary of $55,735 per year. Holt was scheduled to receive similar compensation.'

Wow, I didn't realize that he took that position. Small world. A far cry short of the 650k he was pulling down at UW.

$55k is probably more than our DC gets paid. Speculation is interesting. I hope Nigel really puts his recruiting talents to work and lands a great DC.

While we are at it....Rick Neuheisel. Tan, rested, ready.

Or Bobby Hauck for that matter. I'm sure he'll be available soon. UNLV is rolling at 0-3 with all losses coming at home.

Almost certainly, it will NOT be Greg Lupfer. Talked to coach at the luncheon and, although he knows him, has some other persons in mind.

I figured that was 'pie in the sky,' but one can always hope.

Even if there were a coach available at this late date, is it really conceivable that they could come in and make the changes necessary quickly enough to stem the tide?

Here's a thought...

How about Robin Pflugrad as DC?

Isn't Robin Pflugrad an offense coach? He'd be a great OC, but a DC? It may be best to hire a great defensive program's coach who's ready to move up to an FCS DC position. When you think of great defensive program, which university teams come to mind? Who's hot right now? Stanford, Oregon State, Bama, Georgia, ND

What PSU needs most right now is pass defense. Who's best there? In the West, it is Fresno State, Boise State, Arizona State, and ... Bowling Green have allowed fewest pass yards this season. Find the right pass defense DC from one of these programs, one who fits and is ready to move up.
