• Hi Guest,

We've updated the site to combine all the forums that were part of the Big Sky Fans Network into one location. This will make it easier to navigate and participate in all the discussions for each school without having to have multiple accounts, etc. We are still working out some tweaks but please let us know if you notice anything.

With the migration, in some circumstances, your username could have been merged with one of your other usernames from the other forums. If this is the case, you can request to change your username in your account details page of your profile.

With apologies to Hawk Harrelson, HE GONE!!!

Up front, I'll point out that I'm not trying to insult UNC's program, but historically the numbers don't bear out the perspective a number of you are putting forth here.

The argument there was a 40 year stretch of success is a tough one. From 1976-1988 alone, there were just 4 winning seasons at UNC. That 4 in 13 seasons. Blasi's record over his final 8 seasons: 33-45-1.

There have been stretches of success, the longest of any consistency came during Glenn's 11 seasons as head coach. Joe's the only coach to have never had a losing season. Blasi's best stretch was 10 years from 1967-76: 61-19-2.

And I wasn't comparing K-State's woes to UNC other than to point out that I've got some perspective on how bad a program can be.

I am under no impression that we can bring in a coach that many people have heard of. We simply don't pay enough.

What we can do is give a little known coach a shot (which we did with Downing). You take your chances and hope you get a diamond in the rough.

The only thing wrong about this decision is that it should have been made a couple years ago. The more I look at the Downing hire, the more I realize it was a bad decision. The guy had only been a head coach one other time, which was an NAIA school, and that lasted a year. His highest position after that was DC at Wyoming, which he lasted 3 years, then got demoted to running backs and special teams coach. How he got the job, who knows.

/Downing rant

On another note, he has brought in some good kids, not only athletically but character wise. I'll give him props for that. I feel for him, it sucks getting fired or losing a job. Been there done that.

I hope Jay puts some serious thought into this next pick, because if he picks another 9-47, it'll be his ass next.
