WK 1 Prediction Thread CWU 13 v EWU 58

The posts I read on here remind of of the years we beat Oregon State, and WSU, and when we almost beat the Huskies. Those fans were over confident as well.

Interesting statistic... We have faced no other university on the field more than CWU. Of course, this goes way to the NAIA days in the Evergreen conference.

CWU: 33-30-4 (67 games)
Whitworth: 40-24 (64 games)
WWU: 38-25 (63 games)
UM: 17-26-1 (44 games)
MSU: 31-10 (41 games)
PSU: 19-19-1 (39 games)
ISU: 28-9 (37 games)
Weber: 18-15 (33 games)
NAU: 20-11 (31 games)

The difference is this team is focused on a goal to" Leave no doubt". So this year I expect to see a difference in the players on the field every game. Each and every team will see determined group of Eagles.

I hope so. Afterall this is only Best's second year as HC so he is still developing the team culture. If he can get a Nick Saben, Dabo Swinney, or Urban Meyer kind of culture we'll have a new stadium worthy of a winning program.
Kind of off topic here but I continue to be amazed at what we pay football coaches!

Put superstition aside...Team is HOME, playing a VERY beatable tier 2 team, TONS of talent and EXPERIENCE under HC & OC belts... No one on this board can play the game for the players or coach it for the coaches. Until they show me they can't handle it with all this going for them will persist in my belief EWU is a SUPERIOR team, especially against a DII

Plus Ron is the only one who has attended a practice far as the board is concerned... It's wiseeagle's world and we are all just living in it.

Ron's definitely the man. Also, I'll burn my Eagle card if we EVER associate with an "Urban Meyer kind of culture". I'd rather keep the stadium as is.

Couple of keys to a better season.
Gage has to improve his running game. His yards per game dropped by 60% from 2016 when we were in the Semi Final game. He has to be a threat to run.
I think we will see a big improvement in the running game this year. Just from what I have heard, they are looking a lot better short and long yardage situations. This combined with the GG run threat should keep the LB tight and open up the passing game.

Defensively, the 3rd and long first downs that we gave up last year were awful. This needs to improve greatly. I think you will see improved pressure on apposing QB's with the addition of a bit deeper line, addition of some young guys and some improvements at C and S. Tre Weed looks like he may have a real opportunity. Looked good in the scrimmage. With JT back, gives us some ability to rush off the ends a little more aggressively, I think he will make a big difference.

I remember last year's game against Texas Tech, our defense holds them on the first drive. First offensive play from scrimmage, great pass and catch then bam! Fumble. It was almost like that one play set the tone for first few games - if not the entire season. Something about the offense just didn't look quite right...

Please not the Urban Meyer culture. PLEASE NOT. Leave that to Montana.

"Leave no doubt." It's great! Practice and prepare with that attitude, not to just win, but to win decisively! Leave no doubt on the scoreboard, or the stat sheets, or in the minds of the opposing teams, who has won and who is best - no doubt about it. Gooooooooo Eags!

LEAVE NO DOUBT...

Regardless of the margin of victory, expect a competitive, tough game with our Eagles leaning on the Wildcats throughout the contest, wearing them down to the nub by games end. Mental toughness to go with the physical prowess. That is what "leave no doubt" means to me.

Pluto TV has been replaying games from previous seasons all morning. Watching on ROKU or PC. Game today is supposed to be on Pluto as well for those of us not fortunate enough to be there.
