Wk11 Prediction Thread EWU 59 vs. UC Davis 20

MARBLES something something...

UC Davis is a very good team with more than a single weapon this season. Maier and Doss are still connecting, but UC Davis has a couple of RB's with over 1,000 combined yards an OL that has only given up 9 sacks and other receiving options from a multiple offense.

On paper the offenses look nearly identical. If you look at common opponents the similarities continue. Defensively, UC Davis has a solid team with active LB's. You have to like Moe Mason with over 8 sacks. They will bring some heat. Eastern's defense is deeper and has been more effective stopping teams from scoring. Numbers on the defensive side of the ball are surprisingly comparable from tackles, tfl, sacks etc..

EB3 likes playing at home and this will be his second "big game" of the season. Expect the OC to protect him by spreading the defense out with quick pass plays to the edge, getting the RB's engaged off tackle, using the middle of the field a little more and getting our playmakers one on one. Like our DB's to do a great job making a few plays to turn the tide. Expect the officials to call an even game considering the situation. Playoff feel in this one.

I like our chances. This could be one of those weird 15 to 17 games if the OL's don't play well or a shootout. Honestly, anyone's guess. I expect Hawkins to have some wrinkles on offense that will move the needle and I expect Eastern to just lean in and wear Davis down.

Go Eags! 44 -27

The funny thing is if you looked at Eastern's body of work and ignored the Weber State game, you'd see a legit national title contender. The Eags have simply taken care of business and won their games by healthy margins. Only NAU really played it close. And you can sort of view the Wazzu game through the lens that the Cougs are an elite Power 5 team this year and Eastern hung until the Cougs ran out in the fourth quarter.

Then you look at the Weber game and just go "what the fuck happened?" That game almost exists in a vacuum. It was like this Ferrari was just lapping the field and that weekend the wheels fell off on the opening lap. Nothing about that game made sense. Yeah, the D played well, but Weber didn't even play that well and the offense still was hapless.

You could come to two conclusions. You may look and say, well, Eastern beats up on bad teams and struggled when the competition is good. Or you could look and say this is a great team that had one crazy game where everything fell apart. I think it's more of the latter. Eastern is really good, a complete team with a lot of talent. But you can't totally discount the former until you see how the match up with UC Davis- obviously a quality team- and know for sure.

This is the subtext of my prediction, don't go psychic on me :-) Take away the anomaly at Weber, which I put squarely on Reeder, and there isn't another team in the BigSky that close. UC Davis is undefeated in the conference until we beat them

This has the feeling of a Griz game back when UM was actually good. I can't wait. Bringing a buddy from Seattle who came to his 1st game at the Red vs Idaho. We're capping off the day with the Zags Sat night.

If EB3 can go through his progressions as he did in the 2nd half last Saturday, I like the Eags. If he locks onto his 1st option and hangs on to the ball, then it could be tough for the Eags.

This is the 1st season since 2010 that I can remember when teams are driving, I'm expecting a sack or a turnover.

Tough game to predict, but I have to give the Eagles a slight nod for the home field advantage. Last year in Davis, the Eagles squeaked out a last minute come from behind win, with Gubrub at the helm. The Aggies are better this year on both sides of the field. This is going to be an exciting game.

It is a tough game to predict. Aggies are much improved over last season. Eag's are also much improved this season and I think deeper still than the Ag's. Guess our doubts all stem from the QB change, but EB3 has started 4 games and has a ton of upside. Expect good weather, but if it's blustery, his arm is more than big enough to get it out there and his feet will be a difference maker against the blitz. Interestingly, each team has about the same number of sacks but Eastern's come from the DL where Aggies come from the LB's... Leaves more players defending the pass for Eags on average. A real playoff feel in this one. Go Eags

Home game on the Inferno? Senior day?
52-14 EAGS! Remember who called it!

I will be glad to buy you a beer if you are close with a 38 pt spread. I'd love to see it. Unfortunately, I think UC Davis is the best team in the Big Sky not named Eastern Washington. We struggled with Weber, and on the whole, I think UC Davis is quite a bit better than Weber. I feel like Eastern can and probably should win, but I think this is going to be a tight affair.

Stella in an ice cold glass! :)

I'm going to go with a 45-42 thriller with EWU being up by 10 until a last minute touchdown and failed onside kick by Davis.

Alternatively I could a similar situation with a score of 17-14.

Just watched the highlights from last years game at UC Davis and forgot how much of a struggle it was in that game. I would agree with this assessment.

I think that we will need to play a near perfect game to win this one. The good news is that we are a tough team to beat at home. We probably need to score in the low 40’s and get a couple of turnovers to win this one.

Eagles 41, Davis 37

Haley 31 -24 ?? He also states UC Davis scores at will. These two things don't make much sense when put together...
