Wk3 Prediction Thread EWU 24 @ Wazzu 59

Found this Pac12 game preview on the Cougs site. It looks like there is streaming links, not sure if you still have to put in a valid Pac12 TV provider that you've bought the package on. This was the streaming site I found, it is Pac12 networks, so probably won't work.. https://pac-12.com/live/washington-state-university

Leach weekly... Eags stuff at about 42 minutes

Minshew interview: At least Leach didn't try to poach our QB, he went out and found a near twin in Minshew.

Coug fans are pretty overly confident over on their message board.

Not on the premium boards. Most of us are cautiously optimistic. The fools on the free boards are ridiculous 90% of the time. This is the toughest opponent we'll have played by far, and is very losable. With that said, we match up better against your receivers than we did in 2016. Your receivers are talented, but there isn't a Cooper Kupp type guy that will likely go off for 200 yards and 3 TDs. Also, Shalom Luani was out for that game. This year, our secondary appears healthy and ready.

On the flip side, while our receivers are great and our running backs and Oline are playing terrific, our qb play is inconsistent. If Minshew struggles and this turns into a shootout, I dont like our chances.

We shut out SJSU last week 31-0, but we left 3 scores on the field with sloppy execution. The game legitimately should have been 48-0, but sloppy play led to poor execution in the red zone.

Our boys BETTER take this game seriously, or we will get our butts whooped again. If we do, I expect we should win this one.

How good are WSU's safeties? Webster has good hands and better top end speed than Coop, but isn't the route runner and possession WR that Coop was for us. He's already put up Kupp-like numbers this season though; 194 yds / 2 TDs per game.
This game all boils down to who wins and controlls the line of schrimmage on both sides of the ball.I don't care if you "the cougs" have Richard Shermin back their , if Gague has all day to throw the ball , he, couldn't even cover them! The other thing when a game is played I get really tired of hearing we didn't have this guy, and you have that guy. The Eagles kicked your but on that date and time, with a untested QB, and a primarily freshmen OL. Lets play the game , you bring your best shot and we'll bring ours, and when the dust settles we'll see who wins the battle of the Palouse. And When its all over lets not hear, we could have beat the Jerries in this battle if we would have had as many tanks as they had. Eags Ranger up and kick their ass!!!

Jalen Thompson the starting FS was 1st team All PAC 12 last year as a Sophomore. He is a stud, will most likely play on Sunday someday.

If this score total doesn't hit 80 I'll be shocked.

EWU 43
cougs 42

I don't make predictions- it's bad luck when I do-- but I don't see Eastern hanging 40+ on WSU. That defense looks pretty solid, and WSU will win games with their D this year. I'm sure Eastern can get points, but if the Eags can hang 40+, I'll be very surprised.

Frankly, I'm not sure how good WSU is on offense. If Eastern can't keep them from scoring on half of their drives, I don't think one ends well. That said, it is very much within reason for Eastern to have a good amount of success on defense; no one can really tell yet just how good WSU can be with the football.

37-34....gg provides a miracle at the end after a surprising/freaky turnover by the d.

I recorded the EWU game last week on TV and have been watching it. Here is my 2 cents. We might lose but that is football sometimes.

In my honest non-homer opinion(and if we lose you can rip me) I really think Eastern is going to struggle covering anyone in either the slot or the RBs out of the backfield. Only one of these 6 kids played vs Eastern last time, Kyle Sweet. Sweet is a guy will be in the right place and catch it but won't run by you. Between the 2 backs Williams and Borhgi plus the other inside receivers Harris, Calvin, and Bell they are all game breakers. All 5 were HS sprinters, legit ones with 10.5 hundred meter type speed. Leach in his 6 years prior has never has 5 kids who can work the flats and underneath with the ability to take it to the house if you make a mistake or don't have the speed to stay with them. These kids will shine in his offense this year. Williams last season lead the nation in missed first tackles, he is just that hard to hit one on one.

So there is that.

EWU is not going to see a defense quicker than this the rest of the season either and that is the truth. They are long and fast especially off the edges. The old DC built this defense in the image of the one he came from at Mizzou where he was the safeties coach, total and complete speed. He is now gone to Ohio State, but they new DC the former coach at Minnesota has kept his principles as he likes what he has. I think they will give EWU's line fits. The secondary are mostly upper class men who have played a ton of football. The FS is was 1st team All PAC 12 last year as a sophomore as well. Their LB are the are deepest group on the team and having Pelluer back for at 6th season due to injury last year is like having a coach on the field.

I think WSU might be too much for them this year

Going with 35-17 just because the QB play has been spotty at times as he has only been here for 3 months. But I really think after being at the Wyoming game and watching the SJSU game on TV this defense might be legit, I don't think 2nd in the nation legit but top few in the PAC 12 good.

Here is a to good injury free game.

Your review and concise info is really good stuff 97 and your prediction is solid. If we only score 17 pts. vs WSU, I'll be shocked allthough we are missing our #1 RB. I doubt we put him out there if there's any question he's not 100%.Don't have a lot of stats to back this up but we have speed this year on both sides of the ball. I do know our speedy RB Custer(who may not play) once beat his dog in a race. Although his dog has but three legs it is a thoroughbred dachshund with documented papers. Our defensive backs have deceiving speed and all have under 5.0 times in the 40 running backwards. So there is that

Your analysis sounds about right. Wazzu's D is quick, I think they look better than last year. Like the DC Claeys, he was with Jerry Kill for years, Leach is lucky to have him. We don't have anyone who can cover Williams.

Eags score more than 17 because of big plays and probable WSU offensive miscues. Homer in me says Eastern has a chance given a couple TO's and 5-6 Stops. Should be fun to watch and also wish for an injury free contest.

Your exactly right! I was just trying to get you fired up. I know little about football but a lot about life. I'm not prettry sure , I'm sure you have us at most positions. What I do know about life, if you go into battle, and thats what football is, if your out numbered 20 to 1, if you don't believe you can win than you wont !! I hope for a good competitive injury free game on both sides! Go Eags!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wsufan97 is really enamored with the wsu defense. Maybe they are a good defense but if you watched that San Jose State game you can't argue that Spartan offense was atrocious, putrid, dismal and downright nauseating. Any FBS defense and most FCS defenses would look good against that offense. WSU's first opponent, Wyoming is not exactly an offensive juggernaut. In fact San Jose State is ranked 113 and Wyoming is 119 out of 129 FBS teams in Total Offense. I think it is a bit early for wsu fans to declare they have a good defense.

I predict the EAGS are going to move the ball and score against wsu's defense, enough points to win this game. Also, as I have said in another post, the interior OLine of wsu was exposed by the San Jose State DLine. I bet Jay-Tee Tiuli watched the San Jose State/wsu game film with a big grin on his face as I think he will provide that important "up-the-middle" pressure that will give the wsu QB happy feet. I am very superstitious when it comes to predicting scores but for this one I am going to go out of my comfort zone.

EAGS 35
wsu 28

This sounds about right. WSU’s offense is probably not leaps and bounds above Eastern’s, but I think your defense is significantly better. Also hope for a clean injury free game.

DefendtheRed, did you watch the SJSU/wsu game?

Pretty accurate analysis there IMO. If Wazzu runs the ball 25 times they will be tough to beat. Williams and Borhgi are as legit as they get. Leach would be smart to just hand it to both of them the whole game. The coug receivers are all Playmakers and will be tough to stop them. If WSU throws 50 times I think we have a chance to win though. I thought they should have kept handing the ball off 2 years ago but they didn't and we got to Falk and even forced a pick. Eags can win this game but they will need to get creative and find a way to make some plays down field to keep the secondary on their heels and open up the Run game. Gage will have to find a way to make some first downs with his feet to keep the chains moving. I'm going to say WSU 42 - Eags 17. Man I hope I'm wrong though. I'm going to be at the game losing my voice for the eags.

go eags!

I have no idea what to expect from this game. WSU looks scary good so far. We could get blown out of the water or we could squeak by like we did a couple years ago. Screw it, I’ll go 31-30 Good Guys.

Scary good?

They've played two teams terrible teams. But I hope their players buy into that hype... hubris is a beautiful thing.

Relax, buddy. I certainly wasn't making excuses. That was a very good Eastern team and you won fair and square. I only pointed that out to illustrate that WSU is healthier going into this game than they were in 2016. For what it's worth, I think we were better in 2016 than we are this season, and you beat us, then, so I'm sure you've got an excellent chance to beat us again. But I'm happy Kupp isn't on your roster because no one could cover him.

As a WSU fan, I don't buy the hype that we are scary good. Right now, we are number 2 in the nation in total defense, but we haven't played anyone. Wyoming's passing game was terrible, we just stacked the box and committed to stopping the run. It was very predictable play calling.

SJSU has a pretty awful offense as well. Holding them to 109 total yards, was still encouraging, though. We did what we hoped to do.

Eastern is so much better on offense than either team we played, so I definitely don't expect to shut them down. I also think you may have the better quarterback, or at least, your QB has a better command of the offense.

I do think we can move the ball on your defense, and I do think our defense, though untested at this point, is well-coached and has enough speed to win enough possessions to win this.

I think the score is going be be lower than most people think, though.

WSU 38
EWU 24
