I watched the game it was a gutsy effort by the women so I give them credit. I've never really watched a women's basketball game before which I didn't really realize until the game got going. I guess I'm a chauvinist but women's sports really isn't my thing, maybe if they wore skirts or something like tennis it might help.
But being able to pull off the win with only 8 players and head coach out was pretty impressive. I give the team credit they are very hard nosed and also they seem to play very well together and very composed. They are very stoic, never showing emotion, never getting upset and not getting too excited either, it was impressive to see the mental toughness. Something the male athletes at UNC could learn from. Hagen is very dominate, she seems to get the most out of her ability, she is undersized for a center and uses fundamentals and smarts to always be in the right position for a rebound and to get the best shot off as the situation allows. Playing without a point guard really hurts them too. Trying to use # 20 at the point was a struggle. Bless her heart the kid played hard but she is a 2 guard trying to play the point and that is not easy. Also, Kevorkin is the real offensive weapon, she seemed to be the only one that could create her own shot off the dribble. Not sure why they have her coming off the bench I guess to give a scoring punch, but she is the best player on the team behind Hagen so she needs to start and get max minutes in my humble opinion. Also, # 10 seems to handle the ball well but she is afraid to shoot for some reason. At one point she penetrated the lane, got within 3 feet of the basket and instead of shooting tried to pass and had it intercepted. Maybe it's a confidence thing but she seems to have the skills to create some offence if she believed in herself more.
Once again my 2 cents but it was interesting to see them play for the first time and I have to say I think the women's b-ball program is definitely headed in the right direction.
