Worst loss ever?

In my mind, it's worse than the Chadron game. I'm usually not one of guys that always say "told you so" but I'll do it any ways. I told you so. We have a gimmick offense and a horrible defense. It's going to be a long year folks. BTW, Jay needs to be fired for scheduling this game.

I'm going to be absolutely blunt about this. We. Are. Awful.

The play calling was laughable "Hey look, let's run draw play after draw play". Sure it worked for the first drive, but then they keyed on it. The one thing I noticed was their CB's were far worse than our WR's- but up until that last drive we did nothing about it. What's the point if we don't exploit their weakness and go back to the draw or maybe a screen pass or a 2 yard slant pattern?

Then the defense, the play calling looked like we were running prevent D all game. I feel like the coaches tried to instill a "bend don't break mentality" but we had issues with Lindenwood, how in the world are we going to do it with a team at a higher level.

Flat out: We got pushed around in our own house. They looked about 20 times better than us, and if it wasn't for their penalties this game would have been even more ugly (If that was even possible). Also it could have been the most boring game I've seen played at a college level, possibly any level but who knows.

I'm tired. I'm tired of crappy play. I'm tired of losing. I'm tired of coaches who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. We deserve better, and honestly I should have stayed home today, I wasted an afternoon watching this mess. Now I have to contemplate if I want to use my tickets to the CSU game next week. I just don't care about our football team after this game. As a UNC student I can see why no one cares about the football team- in the student section today it was half of people who weren't even watching the game. And a majority of students didn't care enough to stick around and watch the 2nd half and end of the game.

And I had to shake my head in the fact we could only get about half the stadium full on opening day- but then again I see why.

You're right Lenz, we do deserve better. The program is in the pits right now. I have no idea how it's going to get out. I feel cheated spending money on that crap. Now what to do with my CSU tix? Just saw Sac State beat Oregon State. Man, we are in for a long year.

Once I realized this game was going to be more of the same as last year, I kept thinking about Beardown calling it a stupid game to schedule and he was the only one who called the loss. As far as it being the worst loss ever, it is definitely up there, but at least the offense showed a little heart with its last drive at the end. Downing's teams usually gave up a little easier than this team appeared to but, then again, I'm not sure how hard these guys tried today. There just doesn't seem to be players wanting to step up and be good. Lobato definitely seemed mediocre at best before he got hurt.

I've got my CSU ticket but can't say I'm too excited about that one now.

Sac St. might drop triple digits on us this year.

just lil fyi for all you 'bear' fans......
cameron deen goes 23 of 31 for 380 yards and 2 td's. no pics, no fumbles. no sacks,,,,,,,

Embarrassing, a new low.

I'd sum it up as soft and sloppy.

I hate the spread, always have, always will, check my post history... and for being so up tempo we just seem to stand around looking at the sidelines with no urgency at all. It looked like we were playing at 75% like nobody was really sure what they were doing. How about hudle up, get the play called, get to the line of scrimmage and snap the effing ball? Bottom line for the 100th time, WE DON'T HAVE THE TALENT TO RUN THIS OFFENSE.

On defense, just a total lack of fundamental tackling... that's the soft side I mentioned above.

What I see is a team with zero difference makers, a bunch of so so guys with nobody that can step up and make a play to win a game.

#5 for Lindenwood or whatever it's called was the best player on the field.

And then in crunch time the Downing hang over rears it's ugly head and they fold up like a lawn chair.

No wonder we're a laughing stock, losing at home to an NAIA schools that nobody has ever heard of...

The losses since the Hinrichs era have mounted up so deep it is hard to pick a worse loss ever. If this is not the worst, then it is in the top 5. I thought Earnest would do a better job than this. Hinrichs does not know football and it shows - he is a basketball guy. He needs to go first and then maybe we can start to rebuild the football program. This is a disaster.

Mr Deen, your son quit on this team, not the other way around. Cameron is a good QB and I'm happy for his success, but I wish he would have stuck around. However, you're a parent and your coming around here to rub it in. That's just in mature.

I agree. The play calling was absolutely horrible, I felt like I was watching Darnell call plays again. Same on the defensive side of the ball, Lindenwood was absolutely gashing the defense in the first half. The fan turn out was also horrible, but I don't blame them for not coming out. Lindenwood was a quality program, and I under estimated them, but UNC should've never lost to them.

Back to the play calling, I blame the loss solely on that, if they would have called better plays and mix it up UNC would have won this game. But yet you wait until the last drive of the game to throw the ball down the field, which had success, but you wasted it by running the ball 3 straight times for minimum yards. I don't think the offense that they are trying to run is that bad, but the play calling just ruined it, Lindenwood pretty much ran the same type of offense but ran it far better than UNC did.

I got CSU tickets as well, even though I'll probably still go, I'm not looking forward to it. CSU is going to smash UNC, and CSU sucks.

Yes this was one of the most boring college games I've ever been too.

One last thing, I doubt UNC wins a game this year.

I think the only salvable thing for the rest of the season is to have a good showing in Fort Collins. Honestly, Lindenwood would beat a few Big Sky schools. I know they are NAIA, but a few of those guys like O'Bryan are guys that are FBS talent but didn't qualify with grades. That's no excuse but if we keep it respectful against the Rams, we MIGHT be okay. We have ISU after that and they lost by almost 60 points today to the worst Pac 12 team.
BTW, I do agree with the knock on the offense. You guys were knocking on me for wanting to keep Peterson around, but Armour is horrible. He has horrible play calling and the players aren't buying into ANY of the coaches.

Stop harping on the play calling people. The play calling was limited because we inexplicably started a quarterback that can't throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield with any semblance of accuracy whatsoever. Orms was BY FAR the better QB today and should no doubt be the starter going forward.

If there is a gripe with the play calling, it's that it seemed like our whole team, coaches, players, everybody thought we were going to blow Lindenwood out and got very, very conservative with the play calls on both sides of the ball, not wanting to show anything to future opponents. When it did get late, we saw some more variation in the play calls and formations, but it was too little too late.

Well this is pretty much a rookie staff, and it showed today. If they want to salvage the season they better learn and learn quick. Because after today, I don't see them beating anyone in the sky this year, even ISU. I thought maybe North Dakota, but I'm sure they'll come here in here and smoke UNC. They made their first mistake in starting Lobato, and they made many mistakes today.

I'd just like to say that Lindenwood was A LOT better than I expected them to be. A ton of speed on that squad and that RB would start for any team in the Big Sky.

I'm not knocking Lindenwood, they are a good program, but I didn't think they were THAT good to where they should've beat UNC. UNC has better size and athletes, but Lindenwood was better fundamentally. They tackled better, ran the offense better (which was similar to UNC's), and obviously coached better.

IMO, Lindenwood was definitely better than the Chadron State team that shut out UNC in 2007, so I still say that was a worse loss.

I'm not sure that we have better athletes. I said it since we announced the schedule and I looked at their film and roster. They have just as much speed and size. And yes, we were out-coached.

I don't think Lobato was the problem. He had a nice first drive that led us to a score and missed a couple passes but Pat Walker dropped an easy touch down pass when he got behind the defender. The pass was a little high, but Walker should have caught that, easy TD. I wouldn't put this on Lobato. He didn't have a good game, but not horrible either. That being said, Orms still should start. I don't get it. Coach Boyer was a good QB here and he's been around the game for a while, not sure why he doesn't notice the players rally around Orms. I just don't get it. :ohno:

When we hit the field goal to go up at the end I thought this is great, we are finding ways to win games. I should have known they would find way 112 to lose a game. I just hope Lindenwood IS THAT GOOD and that the bad stuff (special teams, penalties) are correctable.

I don't think Lobato was the problem either, but I think OC lost confidence in him and the offense real quick after some over throws and dropped balls. That's why they went into ultra conservative mode. Which I don't understand because you should always have confidence in your players no matter what happens on the field. If you would've kept firing the ball down field eventually some of those passes would've been made and balls would've been caught. UNC would have come away with a win.
