Worst Loss

To me that's a game where a coach gets fired. Three personal fouls on the final drive wiping out two picks, plus a pass interference, allowing SUU to drive 98 yards.

Don't care if the calls were questionable...This team is undisciplined and it reminds me of the last days of Volek. And once again the failure to land a dependable kicker costs this team games.

No arguments here. It's clear it's time to go in another direction. After last weeks undisciplined and stupid plays on defense, you figured there is no way that it would go un-addressed...well apparently that is not the case. Time to hit the reset button, this team won't get it turned around this season, if ever.

Wanless won't get rid of Sperbeck; that's his hire. Wanless will retire before he gets rid of Sperbeck.

But, how about the D/C playing defensive players that have some brains instead playing all the brainless ones?

(To SD's statement, not the fact that the staff clearly ignored a major problem.)

When does Winless retire?

Football is not the only team tanking this year. VB is the worst it has ever been, soccer is down, WBB HC departs after the best year ever, MBB is rewarded with five more mediocre seasons, losing Causeway Cup every year. Not too impressed.

:+1: I totally effin agree! This has been a nightmare. The only other game that still stands out as a worst game is the last faggie game. I don't like how the team is pro....regressing.

This season had been like watching a train wreck, but yesterday was like watching a plane crash on the survivors. Only the Dexter series finale was more disappointing than that game. Time for a change. I'm convinced this staff has done all they can do at this level. Time for the department to make major changes.

It's time for the head coach to go.
I have a few good coaches that I think can bring us a title; football coach at Carroll College. He has won more than a handful of national titles.
Southern Oregon coach, he looks like a real winner.
Mike Kramer at Idaho State, he would love to get out of that situation and is a proven winner at eastern Washington, and at Montana state.
Our current head coach has taken the program about as far as he is going too.

The guy at Carroll may have a hard hill to climb getting past the idea that an NAIA guy can't hack it in D-I. He may have D-I experience as an assistant, though, so that would be a plus, particularly if it was as a coordinator.

A DEFINITE no on Kramer. He has a history of taking players who get in trouble with the law. We don't need that.

Isn't that Petrino Sr.?

Do not look at Kramer!

I think there are some qualified coaches in Sac St's backyard. Turk Schonert, Mt. Lions HC; Darren Arbet, SJ Sabercats HC; and Nick Rolovich, UNR OC.

Others that should be looked at, Dan Hawkins, Paul Wulff and Raiders' OC; Bob Stitt from the Colorado School of Mines.

How can you guys say that the coach at Carroll college would have a difficult time getting past his NAIA only experience, and at the same time recommend a J.C. or high school coaches for the job.
Just take a look at what Carroll has done on the national level and then pass him by for a high school coach?. Lets get serious!

Before a dialogue is established about possible new HC's, what is the direction and future of Sac State football? Are the CSUS trustees behind and supportive of increasing the budget to follow in the footsteps of SJSU and Fresno State to the MWC? Or is the goal to keep the program at the current level, have a fun rivalry with UC Davis, and limit expenditures toward the program?

The FBS door closed for all western FCS programs with the demise of the WAC as an FBS conference. President Gonzo has been supportive of Hornet athletics and has raised student fees in the past to increase funding. Hornet football isn’t going away while he is in office. Just like any other CSU’s or UC’s, Hornet athletics is one “anti-athletics” president/chancellor away from gutting the department.

I'm not sure how a HS HC would be ahead of any coach with college HC experience.

I agree, NAIA and JUCO have the same level of talent on the field. Regardless of that, Coach Van Diest is not leaving Carroll College. I checked out his bio and he has been at CC for 14 years. It appears that he has made himself a very nice nest in Helena.

That's the problem, no one with authority Gonzo, Winless, etc. has never, ever publicly stated what the long-term goal is for football or the department. Just show up year after year and churn out 4-7 seasons and engage in the losing rivalry with UC Dungpile.

SDHornet, I was not questioning the existence of the FB program, just the direction and long-term plan.

It sounds like you are close to the program. When I went to Sac State ('86 - Greg Knapp, Lorenzo Lynch, Rob Harrison, Mike Black, John Gesek days), it was becoming clear, at the time, that Sac was planning to compete with Pac-10 schools. It created a buzz that for a brief period propelled Sac to solid seasons in the late 80's if memory serves.

If Sac announced today that in 2017 the program is planning to move to the MWC, perhaps the support (and money) would follow. What are your thoughts?

Probably not going to happen. If we WERE to announce that, there's a good chance the Big Sky would give us the boot as soon as we called the presser. That would relegate us to indy status in the interim, and we don't have enough schedule-able schools in our area to support that.
