WSU basketball alumni classic

Starters have been announced.

White: Arceneaux, Berry, Gill, Sparrow, and Tresnak.

Purple: Allred, Boyette, Degraffenried, Hansen, and Patten.

I'm putting my :twocents: on the Purple team.

It was a great event, and well attended. It was about what I expected it to be. The alumni who were in the better shape looked good and were still effective. The ones who have let themselves go a little bit...., well, let's just say it was good that nobody got hurt. At any rate, it was good to see them all, including Ron A. and Jim M.

This year's addition of the Wildcats was introduced at halftime. It's a good looking bunch of players. October can't come fast enough. :thumb: :thumb:

What a fantastic night for an old guy like me! Gotta give it up for the Great Dame one more time  . What an outstanding ambassador for Weber State and the NBA as well. He never ceases to amaze what great kid out of Oakland Lillard is.

The events were fun to watch, so fun we found ourselves laughing out load at several past greats (my age) running their big bellies around the court enjoying the purple spotlight one more time  . It was awesome seeing some needing rest after being introduced and others putting up 20+ pts and big minutes. I personally enjoyed the shooting events most and found them highly entertaining but the actual game was a great chance to see so many players back on the floor that have filled my mind mind with such fond memories of a storied program! Seeing Coach A back on the bench, despite Dutch being by his side, about brought a tear of joy to my eye.

The autograph signing afterward was the bitter sweet frosting! My oldest boy, my (youngest) daughter, and I decided to wait in the long line in hopes that Lillard would be there, having missed out a few other times to personally snag his signature. Dame is my daughter's sports hero and what better example for her at this time-- she's was a sixth man with starter's minutes as a sophomore PG/wing for a Region 1 high school last season. She would love to play at WSU, and Lillard is a huge reason why. She was really hoping for a picture with him. So, in true WSU form, we're a quarter through the line and an usher comes along asking, "you know Lillard isn't signing autographs?" It felt like he was trying to clear people outta there faster-- very uncool! A 16 year old on a Saturday night had funner things to do than wait though a line to get autographs from a bunch of old guys she doesn't know, so she left very disappointed.

My boy and I stayed anyway because we have a wider range of interest, and we were so glad we did. The current team was great to talk to and I was surprised how engaging in conversation they were. Most were great but Hunter, Cannon, Richardson, Joel, and Braxton were awesome! Then, the fellers from my generation! I had something to recollect with nearly every one of them and it was one of the best experiences I can remember, talking to the makers of so many of my great WSU memories-- JimmyD, Gill, Lance, Pat, Henrey, Sparrow, McCloy, Mook, Dev, Tres, oh, hell, they're all good times! :notworthy:

Then, the bitter sweet! Lillard was there, at the end of the line by the time we waded through. What a great opportunity to shake his hand, express what a great example he is, and finally get his autograph on my jersey. I felt really bad for my daughter, though, and she's heartbroken. I guess she could have chosen to stick it out but the point being, she would have if some geezer didn't tell her Dame wasn't there, maybe in hopes he could still get home for bed by 9:30 or something  !

Anyway, sorry to :blah: but this was a fantastic event, long overdue, and one I hope to see repeated in coming years. Having Lillard there is certainly sweet icing but the cake is mighty fine standing on its own too. GO WEBER4EVER! :thumb:

LOVED this event!! What a great night at the Dee!

I wish that an evening event in the Allred theater the night before with coaches and some older players could happen. I loved the Top 50 event where coaches and players sat around telling stories. Never knew, until then, that Willie's recruiting visit happened in the church house next to the Dee (at that time, it was one of the nicest courts in Ogden; Dame still does workouts there. I think the church gave him a key. Surprisingly, the court was totally redone last summer lol). A Night with the Wildcats!! Bring back Motta, McCarthy, Abegglen, and even Cravens (he is pretty funny to listen to) and some of the greats from those eras to tell stories.

Nonetheless, watching the game on Saturday brought back great memories. I was in middle school when Jimmy D was a Wildcat and he was my idol. I always wanted to be a great shooter like him. Loved watching Lewis Lofton being on the court again, along with Fisher, Emery, and Smith. What a group of guys. I watched them after the game and they were virtually attached at the hips talking about their experiences at Weber State. It was fun to listen and talk to them. I tried my best to get a picture of Gill, Allred, and Dame (Weber's three most recent NBA players), but it never happened. Of course my favorite was seeing Sparrow, Pat, Marlon Carter, Johnny Hamilton, Allred and...Supaman, back together on the court. What a great team to be in college with. Supaman was all smiles, like always. He said it was good to be back at the Dee under the lights in Ogden.

What a great night...Thank you Dame, Jerry, and Paul.

It was an awesome event, for many reasons. I saw Walt Tyler's son post this pair of photos on Instagram after the game. For just this alone, the entire event was worth it.

Thanks for this post Hawks. Couldn't be there because I had to be back to my job in China and I wanted to go so badly. I was friends with Walt Tyler from my days as Sports Director at KWCR. It was good to see some info on him.

Is this event going to happen again this year? I sure hope it does.

With Dame not playing in the Olympics hopefully his agent will let him make it happen. It would be great to find out sooner rather than later so we can start marketing it. Oh yeah, I forgot that we probably won't market it anyway.
