Downing signed a contract extension for three more seasons! I feel like I just got gut punched!

Hinrichs is officially on my shitlist (I'm sure that really concerns him)

This is a joke. I never in my wildest dreams thought we would be talking about a 3 year deal. I thought maybe a 1. Seeing how we are budget constrained there is no way we could buy him out so we are stuck with SD for 3 years. I hope that Hinrichs did the right thing, but right now I think this is a monumental mistake.

uncfootballrules, either you or I am missing something. The article you linked to doesn''t say anything about how long the extention is for. I really doubt he got 3 more years, my bet is 1 year. Either way, I didn't see anything about a 3 year extention.

Don't see that it says 3 years but a 3-31 record, even a 1 year extension seems nuts.

#&$$*(#$&*(@&*$#&!!!

This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen!!! WHY!?!?!?!

My only hope is that now the board will see that Jay is nuts and can him

I don't know how ANY coach with a 3-31 record would be allowed to keep their job.

I wonder what the reasoning is, money issues? or they couldn't find anybody else?

Come on and read the correct story. His contract is for 1 (One) year and I quote from the Tribune

"University of Northern Colorado football head coach Scott Downing has signed an extension to his contract.
The contract is a one-year deal worth $95,000 in base salary. Downing's previous contract was a three-year deal with a base salary of $90,000. His contract was set to expire in June 2009."

I think this is a good thing for the team. Coach Downing has made some good progress in the quality of the team and changing things now would only be starting off at the beginning and we don't need to do that again. The winning is more about the quality of players than the x's and o's the coaches come up with. Joe Glen found this out at Wyoming. Here was a good coach that couldn't win because he didn't get the talent he needed to compete at that level. We are starting to get better players and will soon be at the place where we can compete and win. The best way to have a winning team is to dig deep in your pockets and support the athletic fund. Talk is cheep, but money buys success

Post of the Year!!!

The loses kill me (just read my game day rants I know they can be annoying) but I will say that the team has gotten better, yes, the wins aren't there but we hung with most of those teams for the first half of the season.

And, don't underestimate the fact there were no police blotter incidents this season, I do appreciate that there is nothing worse than hearing all the pissing and moaning when someone gets arrested. The community raises a ruckus when that happens as they should and luckily this isn't Montana where they accept that and don't care.

Also, would be interested to see some results on academic performance because the NCAA does measure that and you have to get kids that graduate and that is also part of a successfull program.

You Sir, are correct. When are we going to stop making excuses for Downing? Do we have to have another 1-10 season? Or are we going to keep claiming that this guy is a recruiting genius and keep waiting for his recruits to pan out ? Personally, I don't know which is worse, Downings lack of coaching skills, or his inability to hire a decent staff.
My final thoughts are this, Jay is a fucking idiot, and since we seem to be stuck with Scott, he'd better cut some of the dead weight loose...starting with Deti.

I am just trying to imagine the press conference for this. Downing: "I believe we are moving in the right direction, we have recruited some good players and I think we are close to breaking through. With any luck, we can double our win total in the 2009 season to two."

Let's just say hypothetically that they win the Davis and Texas St game (which they should have, not that should have matters but still) and finish 3-8, would that be considered improvement or not?
