It sounds like multiple sources (including our reliable OSH) that Alonzo Carter will get his first HC gig with the Hornets, and is forming his staff right now, with an official announcement coming after the CSU waiting period passes.Am I missing something? This isn't a done deal, is it?
Coveted? So coveted that the departing head coach didn’t elect to keep the job for even a full calendar year.
If Carter ends up being hired, I’ll hope for the best but I can’t think of a less inspiring hire.
While I didn’t expect Brennan Marion to remain at Sac State for long, I was at least excited and intrigued by the hire and all the subsequent moves. Marion was a fairly hot coaching name, largely due to the “GoGo” success and hype.
But this potential hire will hit much differently, creating nowhere near the level of interest that Marion’s hire did or that Troy Taylor’s would.
I've been firmly in the rehire Troy camp. The point of my post was that most folks on here are viewing this through the lens of a Hornet football fan and not as someone making the decisions to carry out a campus-wide/political agenda. Anyone who has been in high level decision making situations, especially with staffing moves, knows it's not just based on merit.Glad to hear you are an alum that still has a vested interest. IMO it just doesn’t show at times when you futility attempt to defend the indefensible.
As for your email idea — it in no way draws my ire. Live and let live. I just recognize it as a complete waste of time and explained why. I’ll further point out that I never once said a negative thing about the idea, though, and wouldn’t have done so at all until you positioned it as some kind of requisite for being critical of the university and it’s inept President.
Nothing personal toward you, of course. Even though we disagree quite a bit, your contributions and participation on this forum are among the reasons I’ve been a member here as long as I have. Through many trying years as a fan of Sac State programs, no less.
Regardless of our differences of opinion, one thing we all have in common is the longing to finally see this universities athletics programs rise and succeed, with state of the art facilities being built along the way.
I was there, I'm well aware of the weather conditions. The revisionist history in my head had the UIW in front of a packed crowd...then pulling up the box score and seeing the reality of a meager 13.7k attended that game...oof.With the delicate fair weather fans of Sacto, I am quite pleased at the 9,136 fans for the Richmond game. It was pouring literal buckets of the pineapple express monsoon before, during and after the game.
The last 3 Hornet head coaches ended up in the FBS at programs with a much higher prestige than ours. For all the negative narratives surrounding our program, that fact seems to get glossed over the most.![]()
Alonzo Carter Named a Finalist for Coveted Coaching Opening
A byproduct of success is that other teams and programs will try to take a piece of that to boost themselves. For coaches, it's also a sign that they are doingwww.si.com
Coveted? lol.
