ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The busy spring continued for the St. Bonaventure men's basketball team on Wednesday, as Jonathan Hall (Miami, Fla.), a sophomore guard from South Plains Community College, signed a National Letter of Intent.
Hall's stock sky-rocketed during his sophomore campaign at South Plains, as he led the Texans to a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 National Championship while earning the Tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors. Hall will have two years of eligibility in the Brown and White.
"We are really excited to get a player of Jonathan's caliber," said head coach Mark Schmidt. "He's a `glue guy' who does everything well. He plays within himself, knows how to win and has a great understanding of the game. Jonathan is somebody who is going to come in and have an immediate impact both on and off the court. He will lead this team during his two seasons."
The 6-foot-4, box score-filling guard averaged 18.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game over four games at the National Tournament. Hall also shot 66 percent (31-47) from the floor and 13-of-15 from the free throw line during the team's title run in Hutchinson, Kan. The Miami native had 21 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in a quarterfinal win over Indian Hills CC. Hall then hit for 24 points in a semifinal victory over Seward County (KS) while adding nine rebounds and eight assists. He then capped his MVP resume with 13 points on 5-of-7 from the field with six rebounds in the title game against Salt Lake CC.
Hall posted per game averages of 14.9 points, team-best 7.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists in his sophomore campaign. For his efforts, Hall was named to the Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) first team after leading South Plains to a 30-5 mark. Hall finished the season with 29 double-digit scoring performances, including 17-straight to close the year, and nine games of 20 or more points. His top scoring-effort of the season came against Howard CC when he shot 14-of-22 from the field for a career-high 30 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Hall also added nine double-doubles in 2007-08, while shooting a staggering 66 percent (224-338) from the floor.
Over his two seasons as a Texan, Hall accumulated 821 points and 505 rebounds under the guidance head coach Steve Green. Hall's two-year averages of 12.2 points and 7.5 rebounds can be credited to 44 double figure games and 15 double-doubles. His offensive numbers also stood out thanks to his career 62 percent (359-575) shooting clip. Hall also excelled on the defensive end of the floor en route to leading South Plains to a 56-12 overall record. The rangy guard also totaled 70 steals 58 blocks
